PvP FPS Temporary Fix found!!!

I would just like to share a temporary fix that my faction has discovered for the FPS issues in Cyrodiil, keep in mind this works for about 80% of players and not everyone, also it is still possible that your FPS will crash again however it GREATLY reduces the chances, so all you have to do to is go into your settings menu and then click Audio and turn all of your sound options to OFF, then restart the game completely, after using this method myself i had no issues with my frame rates for 8 hours after which they crashed again and I simply re-logged and have had no trouble since, Good-luck hopefully we can all soldier through this until Zenimax is able to resolve the issue

Wow, greatly improved my performance. My GPU % usage went from 7% to 54% instantly. Still no where near optimized for the GeForce 700 series but a huge improvement to what I've seen over the past 2 weeks.

For me no sound is just as bad as low frame rate I rely a lot on hearing whats going on around me

I tried with no music alone..I then tried with all sounds turned off. It struck me as "odd" that I was running past siege engine sounds with no siege weapons being there.."odd" that waterfall sounds were going and coming. Looping sounds of siege burning and oil pots bubbling tells me theres a leak somewhere..so..i just turned it all off.

My first siege in weeks with normal Frame rate at Chalman tonight on Wabba.

I agree sounds are vital. Not always do we have a visual cues telling us we are being hit by multiple enemies and the sounds aid in that ..however...it makes me more aware of visual cues like my health bar or eye opening when in hide.

No sound is a godsend in trade for normal FPS again. I will check back into this thread with updates on whether or not its a constant.

PS. fps drop did come back..so its more than just the sound.

Please permit me to think out loud here.

I have been quite involved in audio DSP for a long time now. Only under very rare circumstances would the GPU ever be used for audio fx processing, and only when purposefully designed to do so, for instance I've used CUDA to power convolution (and not just reverb) algorithms. For most functions, the GPU would give no benefit due to the type of mathematical operations involved and, given that I've specialized in real-time processing of inputs that are then output (going from the ADC through .dll plug-ins doing the processing via the CPU then back out through the DAC and thus out as sound to the loudspeakers) I am having trouble imagining what the problem could be.

The reason being that it's unlikely ESO uses real-time sound ii]generation[/i] (in other words, it's probably all samples and wavetables, not generative audio synthesis), although the reverberation and 3D positional algorithms (probably using head-related transfer functions) are certainly real-time sound processing, which can indeed tax the CPU.

There's nowhere near enough sampled audio at any given time to tax RAM, and since I have everything on an SSD it can't possibly be a problem of reading the samples off of the storage medium, because I get the FPS slideshow, too.

That being said, the "consumer" grade sound cards are not meant to handle much real-time processing, even if you paid $800 USD for some surround sound card it's not comparable to what audio professionals use because we need fast input conversion to digital and fast output converted to analog audio signals, so the type of ADC/DACs we use work better for video games, too.

If I weren't at work, I'd set my Firewire audio interface up and test this theory.

Post Script: someone just told me that entirely deleting User Settings and then doing a repair worked for him, and that's one to add to my list.

Just turning off the sound and similar suggestions alone didn't help me, but stringing together a few things did:

1. Used in-game setting to turn off all sound.
2. Used in-game setting to move the the main Graphics Quality setting to Low.
3. Just below the subset of Graphics Quality settings slid View Distance to zero.
4. Adjusted screen resolution (Windows not in-game) from 1920x1080 to 1280x960.

Went through big battles with many players and fireworks all around with these settings without a problem. After playing a good while there was once some FPS drop with a very slight slowdown but nothing even close to what has been happening when I play in Cyrodiil. I'm going to keep upping the screen resolution a little at a time to see how much I can get back and still have good bug mitigation.

With all settings turned to low or off and only the subsampling quality on high and sound off I get frames I can live with for a while but it does eventually go back to 2-4 fps. The subsampling being up keeps the game from looking completely like ass. I'm also using Soriens launcher to turn off fog and disable some of the lighting effects. But really this is absurd that we need to even do this. The game ran just fine for me on all max settings and spanned across three monitors before on an Eyefinity setup. Right in the middle of a massive siege still getting at least 20fps before. I now have only one monitor going and trying to make the game scrape by.

Sound off and restarting didn't fix my issue, nor anyone else I knows. I don't really know who came up with this but it doesn't seem to work at all.

Two days I'm playing with no sound and I'm lagging like a pig. This is not a fix.

Every possible setting lowered or off. 2fps. pc barely even sweating.

Sad thing is that there are those that even if they found out what is causing the lag they would rather use it to win than report it to get fixed.

Maybe we could try playing the game without display? Just turn your monitor off and all your fps problems will be gone!
