How do sorcs hit so hard?

I made a post recently about getting hit for 1.2k from Crystal Fragments, now today I'm getting hit for 700 from Votaile Familiar? That's 4000 Magicka... It's not just a one off lucky hit either like Blazing Shield, I was getting hit by the same guy for 700 quite alot

I have 2000 Spell Resist

Note: Don't reply off topic like telling me to block or dodge

what enchants do you have on your armor? Sometimes defensive enchants like Impenetrable will decrease your enemies chance of critting.

Well I'm a sorc and its funny, I really don't know why but sometimes I can 2/3 hit a V12 (Spell pen build not crit) other times it begins an epically long fight where i hardly dint their HP over time. Due to FPS lag and my internet being down for 3 days I've done a lot of soloing in cyro since. Annulment + another shield of sorts turns you into a rock against magic wielders other sorcs not running a conversion/deal built often exhaust all their mana on me before my hp bar starts to jiggle. Try that perhaps and keep Annulment / Dampen magic up.

1800-2000 magicka - 20% of magicka as dmg = 360-400 before resists or crit..

Also reports of sorc pet damage registering twice...

spell power will also increase the... power of their spells. much more than max magicka.
also, with full light armor, they ignore 42% of your spell resistance. if you have 2000, then for him, it is as if you have about 1200.
and if you receive a pierce armor by someone else that uses one hand + shield, you will lose up to 43% spell resistance.
if he uses the might of the guild passive, he also gets a buff to his spell power on the next spell.
there is also a Lucky shot that can be made if the sorcerer hits you right after you got ambushed by a nightblade. the ambush skill increase the damage of the next attack received by 30%, even if it is not made by the nightblade.

with crystal fragments, i made a 1380 crit once, randomly combining a bit of all that:

in PVE, with a NB friend, we tried stacking all those buffs all at once, and i ended up with a 1600 crit on a veteran 1 imp.

sorcerers can hit very hard, but after a certain level of damage, they can't do it alone

the same can be said of any class, NB especially, they hit like trucks when specced that way

Affrayer

- A large/buffed magicka pool
- High crit rate complemented by crit heavy gear
- The 10% damage bonus from the restoration staff skill line
- Jewelry enchanted with increase spell power
- Damage bonus from combat prayer (restoration staff skill)
- Potions that increase spell crit and spell power

Some sorcs use most, if not all of these. This setup is best utilized via ambush and it makes for really good burst damage combined with using the right abilities like crystal fragments for example.

i usually crit in the high 800s or low 900s with my crystal fragments. if my templar buddy casts darkflare before though i crit 1100-1200. that's how i get these huge numbers. on my own i can't produce them

The answer and the problem is right there! Meaning Sorcs 2-3 shot almost anything from range. Plus in this game any class can stealth, so this is why Sorcs are OP in PvP, and bolt escape to get away if they cannot 2-3 shot someone.

A Sorc with detect stealth potion is a better assassin then NBs.

Crystal fragment got cast time btw It's not like u can spam 3 crystal fragments in 1 s Nightblades can do much higher burst damage without relaying on lucky procs.

You can spam crystal if you get the proc multiple times in a row. Ive had up to 4 in a row on my sorc.

No. Unlike a sorc, a nightblade can actually use physical damage that cant be reflected back at the caster. Try your sorc assassin vs a competent DK with scale.

Actually I thought he was pretty spot on, thats 50 percent of the thread titles you see on the forum, anyway.

A simpler version would be:

"X killed me, nerf it so it cant ever again"

It was the way he went about it which made him sound that way. Bads are always going to cry and classes/builds/players are always going to be able to counter classes/builds/players. People need a glass of cement. I've beaten 2 V12 DKs attacking me at the same time and been rolled by 1 V12 DK its how it goes.

DK's scale reflect poison arrow and impale. And maybe can reflect snipe light+heavy attacks too.

Problem with ESO is it breaks the normal logic in MMOs:
Casters = soft but hard hitting targets
Not in ESO, they can stealth just as good as any other class. And they can have just as much HP and armor as any other class if they choose to. And on top of that; bolt excape to get out of Dodge when bliip hits the fan. Sorcs are not glass cannons, they can be speced as a stealth tank with caster damage.

If they could not stealth, it would be ok with the current damage, but as it is now its not, its unbalanced.

Its the light armor talents that give it most of its punch. At 7/7 light armor they have 42% spell pen before anything else is taken into effect. Also since its a cast it has a pretty good base damage.

I have 1950 spell resist and I've seen a 975 hit from this ability. To achieve this I would guess some or all of the following:

• Max magicka 2300 - 2400
• War horn provides more magicka
• Magicka Buff food
• 7/7 light armor
• spell power necklace
• spell power rings
• resto staff w/ Full health
• Combat Prayer
• Might of mage guild passive proc'd
• Spell Power & spell Crit potion
• Crit bonus Mundus stone

result: 900-1100 crits, 700-750 non crit

Pots.

To hit that hard, you're going all-in on spell damage and magicka, your gear is complete, and you're drinking a spellpower potion. That's the sorc burst spec.

Note, this is not a particularly good DPS spec. For that, the best 'rotation' is just Crushing Shock (destro staff ability). But a potted-up Crystal Frags is pretty good burst if you don't dodge or block it.

Nope on the HP and Armor. To maximize damage, a sorc needs to be magicka-heavy and be wearing 7/7 Light Armor. Their spell resist will be close to the hardcap, but armor and hit points will not be tankworthy.

You can make a tanky sorc -- you can pop in Bound Armor (takes two slots) and one or two shield/ ward spells, but now you don't have enough slots to actually kill anything. Nobody good does this. Instead, they rely on short-term buffs (e.g., the wonderful Immovable).

Sorcs also suck at stealth. If you've ever hunted with a medium-armor wearer, they have numerous, significant advantages in the hiding game. Yes, anyone can hide in place. But the leather clad are more mobile when doing so.

Snit

If you're having trouble beating Crystal-Fragment sorcs, here's the easy method to beat them about 90% of the time:

- Reroll Dragonknight
- Use Reflective Scale a lot
- Have good mana pots

The other 10% are the ones smart enough to run from you.

Alternatively, use a bow and spam Venom Arrow. Smart sorcs will be able to manage this, as they don't hardcast Crystal very often. Most sorcs, however, will die mystified at the fact their favorite spell doesn't work
