Gate camping on "safe" campaigns

You know the drill, even ive done it, so no hypocrisy here, but something that I was involved in last night made me think a bit.

On Bloodthorn last night AD actually made a really good push in, until DC (the de facto owners of that campaign) came out in force to wipe us completely.

On AD owned servers this is almost never the case, the moment even the faintest blip shows up on the map the entire alliance descends on that small blip like avenging valkyries, camp the spawn, and there is pvp for less than two minutes before the small blip just quits in disgust.

Id be curious what the DC guys we fought last night would say, was it planned to let us take ground so there was actually a couple hours of PvP? Cause if so, it actually worked. We got kills, you got kills, and until you all decided to bring the full force against us and negate any chance of further progress, we had a good time all told.

So I guess the real question is, why the extreme need to keep everything one color all the time? Why are yellow camping farragut and rayles constantly on AB, DB, and other yellow controlled servers. Why arent we letting them take a couple keeps, get a foothold, so we can actually pewpew?

Most of the time these people have those single-color set as Home but only ever play on them when their dominance in threatened. They just want the Scroll/Emp/Keep bonuses for their Guest campaigns.
The second anyone logs in the cry goes out in Guild Chat and dozens of people log in at the sight of a single enemy player and gate camp them into quitting.
Had it happen to me on Auriel's Bow NA a few weeks ago, 20 or so EP log in, cap Farragut real quick, then AD goes from Low to High pop in 15 minutes and zerg us then Gate camped us until we gave up and left. About a half hour after we left they went back to Low pop.

I'm more convinced than ever that the bonuses from your Cyrodiil campaign should ONLY apply to you when you're in THAT campaign. Not PVE, not guest campaigns. You want to have those boosts, then go sit in your home.

My AD toon is on Auriel's Bow and EP and DC gave us two epic fights last night that lasted for hours each.

They each captured and held a keep and were able to defend their keep successfully for hours against a rather large AD force.

I didn't see any of them quitting in disgust, on the contrary, it seemed as if they were enjoying themselves ...

Yea idk what the OP is all about there is probably just too many people PVE'ing in AB and they come running when they see excitement.

on DB you could literally walk right into the home base (if you dodge the NPCs) and probably won't see anything but tumbleweeds.

Why would max vet 'hordes' waste their time like that?

Just think: Soon the campaigns will change. There will be less available campaigns and there will be some new ones. http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/107716/upcoming-campaign-changes/p1

With less campaigns you wont have to worry about under populated Alliance. In some of the new ones you wont have to worry about Over Powered leveled players vs under powered players (Level 10 vs Vet 12). More balance to PvP coming soon.

I think that pretty much sums it up. One only needs to look across the non wabbajack campaigns to see it. Everything is massively one sided because people chose their campaign to farm and dominate rather than look for a challenge. They want to "win" even if that "winning" is a meaningless event.

It seems like many other campaigns are nothing but macrocosms of the typical gank group.

I personally never understand why there is so many people on servers that are in a position to camp bases. Auriel's Bow for example, why is there three bars of yellow there?? Why is there three bars of blue on Bloodthorn?? Seems like if you folks wanted PvP at all you would all agree to go to one or the other and have some fun instead of zerging down the odd person that sticks his nose out. With it being so easy to move around servers, why are you staying on a server where you own everything and camping their base?

I agree with the OP though. Letting folks get a toe hold makes for a lot more interesting PvP than camping bases and this is true for every faction based pvp game I have played.

You've never been on Auriel's Bow then. AD won't even let DC/EP fight it out for 2nd place. They're ahead 500043 to EP's 144308 and DC's 138187. Any time either DC or EP comes and takes even 1 keep, AD has 250+ people descend on the server and takes it right back. The only time we make any headway is when EP and DC work in tandem, which isn't very often, since we are both fighting desperately for 2nd place.

Part of the problem is the addon that alerts you to any changes in your home campaign, no matter where you are. Grinding in Craglorn? EP or DC takes a farm or mill or something? EVERYONE TO CYRODIIL!

That is exactly what happened last night and i for one really enjoyed the fact that both DC and EP were able to successfully defend their keeps for many hours.

My AD toon is only level 16 but i had loads of fun and some epic fights, even managed to get a few 1v1 kills ...

Yeah and then in the mid-morning hours AD steamrolled the map again. I just spent the last hour spawn camped at high rock gate. We finally pushed out and started sieging Rayles but that set off the alert and in less than 5 mins we had 40+ AD compared to 15 DC.

Not sure, I just play and kill stuff, don't care about who's owning what. I am DC on Bloodthorn, been there since EA and I haven't left because there are some really cool people on there that I like playing with, but I know what you mean OP. I often don't get to play until maybe 10pm PST and the map is usually blue by then and I don't even bother. Whenever we are taking Farragut or Bloodmayne or whatever, and I see people run off to the gate to camp, I usually walk away disheartened. Not fun at all.

that's what happened. least when I used to play it. I quit paying it because of the gate campers, who were almost always max VR rank:/ idk how it is now, but the score says the AD is way ahead, so im assuming things have not changed very much

AS a DC AB member can give you some other ideas about gate camping ;)
We get much more AP when AD "camps" us, than when we have keeps.
Most of time we don't have enough ppl even to take empty keep, but can flag rayles, AD comes to AR gates and beyond and we are getting much AP.
We have less distance to run, and always get defense bonus, since it's our territory.
Btw, this is why a lot less we attack warden, Ni-mohk gates are buged, and not counted as our territory. Can't set up mercs there (if yet have) and no defense bonus.

That is what we did early in the campaign. We tried to leave interior home keeps alone unless we were trying to retake a scroll. But once AD got population heavy they just spawn camp us in.

It does add up. Everyone wants the complete bonuses for pve, pvp is just something in the way of those bonuses they want to use in pve. So when theyre threatened, they go zerg and get them back.

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

    Sorry about that, guys.

From a BT EP standpoint -- unless we're claiming Imperial keeps, trying to dethrone Sunrest -- the rule is to leave AD alone unless they're north of Sejanus/Nikel. Everything else is their territory if they can take it back, we don't care.

Hell, we don't care if Alessia/Roe are yellow most days, just so long as they aren't blue.

Man there is literally like no AD on BT. I mean sure there was some group attacking Roe... for like all night.

We did come from Wabba because A) holy lag batman and B) the impulse blob of 50+ EP that was just going in a circle and wiping everything in its path

We thought we'd get trixy and take DC's scroll, but I guess the DC on BT aren't as complacent as the AD on DB, because within minutes a giant swarm of blue materialized and eventually overtook us while we were trying to get to our secret farm spot ;)

So we farmed Nickel instead, for about an hour. Good times, lots of AP. Eventually DC stopped coming, so we went to bed.

Meanwhile, Roe never flipped... or even got breached? sigh.
