what's the rarest item in the game?

✭✭✭✭✭I'll have to agree that the rarest items are probably purple provisioning recipes. If I had to guess, a recipe that uses pepper instead of tomatoes or oats would be the most valuable as it would be the easiest to make of the triple ability V5 recipes.
Relatively speaking, I don't think there are any truly rare weapons or armor in the game right now. Some are hard to come by but nothing is in the 100k+ range that I know of. I might be mistaken.0 -

If you go to the vendors in the Wayshrine cities of Cyrodiil they sell Blue equipment chests like you receive in the mail (ie, Secret Equipment)
With the Blue ones (not the green ones you get in the mail) there is a chance of getting one of the rarer sets like Armor of Truth. Those sets only seem to come from the PVP Alliance Point bought chests as people I knew that only did PVE never saw them.
I would guess the drop rate on those blue sets is less than 25% just from what Ive seen from buying some. I am not sure how many of those sets can come from the chests but since almost no one I have seen buys those blue chests, those sets from them are extremely rare.

✭✭✭✭✭Tangerines are rare?! I used to toss them into a Level 10 recipe with wine grapes, just for the Provisioning XP. Then I'd sell the beverage to the Inn Keeper for like 2 gold. Oops. Although, to be honest, I found them on a regular basis in Glenumbra. Not in every other barrel like Capon Meat or Shornhelm Grains, but I'd find a couple each night.1 -

You can get the Imperial Motif in the low level area of the game. It's one of the standard race motifs. People are trying to farm them in the VR areas, good luck with that when the drop rate for them is in the low level zones.0 -

You can get the Imperial Motif in the low level area of the game. It's one of the standard race motifs. People are trying to farm them in the VR areas, good luck with that when the drop rate for them is in the low level zones.
Actually, it is confirmed somewhere that it is the only motif that drops in ALL zones, 1-50 AND vet zones, so you can farm for it and find it anywhere, and yet it still is the rarest motif.
Not the rarest item, though.

I can confirm that this Imperial Motif drops in V6 area as I got one yesterday while looking for Ancient Elf and Daedric ones which I have found also there.

ZoS HAs confirmed they are supposed to come from hireling only. And yet once in a great while someone pops up that claims to have looted them. This makes me wonder if loot tables are bugged for specific people? Because most of us have never ever ever ever ever ever seen a tomato in open world loot.
Makes me wonder also if people are mistaking something else for tomatoes.
