Gamebreaking new bug. Abilities gets "locked out" with critters nearby. Fix this ASAP

Would you guys mind letting us know exactly which abilities you're using when you run across this issue?

It would be nice if we couldn't [tab] onto critters. When I'm attacking stuff, I use tab to hard target - sometimes it targets a critter and I'm left with less mana to fight the mob coming at me.

Normally, I laugh though. It's pretty funny to be fighting for your life and then blow up a nearby rat instead of the baddie.

Uh...Mage's Fury is what does it in my experience.

My entire bar went grey; all resto-staff or templar heal skills. No damage spells on my bar at all.

Specifically: Honor the dead, Illustrious Healing, Circle of Protection, Radiant Aura, Rapid Regeneration, and Ultimate=Practiced Incantation. All greyed out and unusable until I died (did not try looking up but moved my cursor all over the place).

This is not a new bug. I noticed it a week or so ago and /bugged it in game well before the most recent 1.1.3.

    And yes, it sucks.

Holy crap, I was wondering why i couldn't heal myself during fights (seemingly at random). Just tested this, and can confirm, with my reticle pointed at a critter, my breath of life heal ability greys out.

Please fix this. I have a hard enough time soloing vet levels as a Templar, this makes it even worse!

Sorry, to answer the question, it seems to be any ability that targets players, such as Breath of Life (templar), regeneration, blessing of restoration (resto staff). al the AoE ground effect heals/buffs/shield spells still work (cleansing ritual, healing springs, etc)

Molten Armaments is one that will not fire if you are soft-targeted on a mob. Also, I started having issues with Radiant Aura graying out as well, but don't think it's related.

For me it is the Nightblade ability Shadow cloak and any of it's morphs. If your reticule is hovering over a critter, it will not activate. The skill does not grey out, but when you press the hotkey nothing happens.

I know the staff in here has passed the message on to the devs and other have reported the same findings, but I just wanted to thank the OP for testing and making Zenimax aware of this issue. I was wondering the last couple of days why I couldn't fire off some defensive skills on my DK, including my ultimate (think I might have had the dragon leap) fire off.

Great that people are reporting like this. As you see, the devs picks it up and I would suspect a online fix even (not even server down).

I am very happy that the MODS listen to us and we have become better at explaining the bug, so they can correct it.

Thanks alot MODS for a fast pickup, and thanks everyone for feedbacking this in a so detailed report as possible!

Yes I was positively suprised how fast they looked at it.

Hopefully they fix it fast as well, as that's what really counts.

I am 100% sure they acted so fast because of your detailed, none whining, specific note. Even if they did not know about it, Your detailed report was to good not to check out right away.

I am 100% sure, that because of your note, right now a team droped whatever they where working on and working on a fix for this bug. Lets see if its a online fix, without any reason to take down the servers (this is possible), or a quick restart.

Codus to you, and I hope more follows your lead. This way we can help Zenimax, and they WANT our help, to improve the game.

My hat, or since I am a tanking orc, my helm, off to you sir.

@Toothpic you sure this issue is not connected with the issue with the players not able to attack NPC's at certain angle, as a NB I get that at times... well a lot when"playing" in tight "quarters"...

Same. This has been around since before the most recent patch, and possibly even before 1.1. Critters have repeatedly broken my bar for weeks now
@ZOS_GinaBruno‌ it seems to affect everything, but specifically what I was trying to use were: Templar Reflective Light, Templar Dark Flare, FG Silver Bolts, Consuming Trap, 1H Deep Slash, 1H Ransack.

Reported this after dying several times on my Templar due to all healing skills being locked out. (Reported right after craglorn patch.) This is most likely "the fix" for all skills being locked when shooting a critter.
The same templar who dies because he can't "quickly swap weapons' when he needs his resto staff.
The same templar who had this ridiculously OP ability (jabs) "fixed". (Too bad now not a single ability works for +1s after said fixed abilty).
The same templar who single handedly smashed a deadric prince to bits and is called "The hero of the Dominion" for surviving insane odds and safeguarding a fragile new alliance (but has recently become known as mudcrabfood after reaching veteran level 1).

A change, might I add, that some of ESO's more vocal supporters were praising them for.

    I'm looking at you Neravarine.

It was a stupid change when it was put in and it needs to go. Getting locked out due a stray critter is incredibly annoying.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno‌:
It happens with all the Resot Staff Skils, save the AoE and (propably) Siphon Spirit.
It also happens with Flaming Weapons of Dragon Knight.
It seems to be every ability of the type "automagically chooses ally, yourself or both". It does not affect "self only" buffs like the DK Armor one, only stuff that either chooses between you and allies or affects you and allies by default (propably same underlying game mechanic).

I also think it is unrelated to mobs. It seems to happen if my cursor looks at a rock/wall a certain distance away. I can solve the issue just by looking at the ground.

Its any ability that doesn't specifically require a Target.

I noticed it over a week ago, Basically if your targetting cursor is near a critter it'll unhighlight your buffs and such.

    Its annoying.

This is a good change and a non-issue. As stated, critters were sometimes getting in the way of legitimate attacks, and that was a problem. See, I don't want to waste my spell on a squirrel instead of that boss I'm supposed to be fighting.

This doesn't affect heals at all, and if you want animal parts, you have a weapon.

Never mind that a stray critter locked out spells and annoyed people, nerevarine was happy with it.

But he's been happy with everything.

But according to what people are saying here, it DOES affect at least some heals, which would be a serious problem for, say, HEALERS.

Ok, I'm going to play with my dragonknight for a little while until the husband gets up; I just got rid of his DW weapon skill in favour of Dragonblood and a destro staff (nothing but class skills now, needs more magicka); I'll keep an eye out for critters, and try to type real slow while fighting to make sure there's time for the spells to shoot off (that's the hard part for me.) Sigh, once EU finishes patching, that is.

I just tested this on my v2 NB, "Dark Cloak IV" works, critter or not.

However at this opportunity i noticed "Rapid Maneuver I" did not work - grayed out as i put my crosshair on a critter.

Jesus christ, if this is true, then it's nothing less of a scandal.

They BROKE the core gameplay and potentially lose even more fed up subscribers because of this "function"?

They should revert this ASAP if this is the case, as it broke the game and people are dying solo, or wiping in raids because of critters everywhere now.

So what we're saying is that skills can fail just because there happens to be some pointless creature around? It was ridiculous making these background decoration things targetable in the first place.

But on the bright side - us beta testers are doing a fine job getting the game fit for its console launch.

So instead of letting you heal while critters are targetted, they thought it would be better to lock out all heal, buff and utility abilities instead?

Jesus christ they didn't really think this "function" through well enough before sending it live O_O It made the gameplay horrible and incredibly annoying as there are critters everywhere.

A change that causes raids to unintentionally wipe, or players to die when solo questing because their abilities are locked out is not a smart change in a MMO lol..
