The Cliffs of Failure: The Endless War - Can't Plant Seeds

I'm starting to get really frustrated because this quest is completely blocked for me. I pick it up, and I can aid two of the mages, but for some reason, I cannot plant any seeds on the bodies of the dead. I kill some enemies. I see the option to plant seeds appear on my screen when I aim at their lifeless corpses. I press E. Nothing. I get pissed. I spam E. It reminds me that the item is not ready for use.

I can watch other people plant seeds and their little zombies pop out with the plant growing animation, but I've got nothing.

I spent my time completing the other two mages' requests. I've abandoned it twice. I've relogged twice. I'm out of ideas. Has anyone found a solution? A workaround? With this bug, I cannot progress in this area's objective quest.

    same issue...
    are you a Templar?
should have no bearing on anything,
but most the players complaining in chat are Templar :\

    can plant seed on body,
    seed disappears from inventory,
    BUT...
body does not transform, no credit for planting seed
    (ie still shows 0/6 planted)

    relog? no help.
    abandon then restart? no help.
    abondon, relog, restart? no help.
/reloadui... never fixes ANYTHING, but tried anyway, no help LoL
    tried game 'repair'... no help.

    so far, no fix

Ok, this really should be regarded as a bug, but avoiding it is straightforward. If you only try to plant seeds in your own kills, you can complete the quest with no problems. Note that you can't plant seeds in all bodies. Skeletons, for example, won't work.

If, on the other hand, you decided to take a shortcut, trying to plant seeds on other people's kills, you have a problem. I'd say the biggest problem is that you decided to try and advance your quest at the expense of someone else, using their kill and thereby preventing them from using it. But the problem that's frustrating you is that when you use someone else's kill you see no animation, get no credit for planting a seed, but you do lose a seed. So if you've done this, you have to abandon the quest yet again and start over, or you will not have enough seeds to finish the quest.

Another thing to try: Because you can't plant seeds in zombies or skeletons, but also because for the most part you only find heritance soldiers paired with a zombie or skeleton, try planting the seed on the heritance soldier right after the kills, before you loot the skeleton/zombie.

And maybe you will think twice next time you have an apparent opportunity to put in less effort at something by taking advantage of others' efforts.

And though I had no problem completing the quest myself using the above guidelines, and though I know that ignoring the above can cause the quest to bug, I recognize that there may be another bug not covered above. If so, some people having difficulty may not have stooped to using other people's kills.

In the video the first time he tries and fails he has looted the bodies before planting the seed, which I think is problematic. After that he kills two heritance soldiers and encounters the bug again. I wish he had tried different mobs, such as the common soldier-skeleton pairs, however.

I successfully planted all 6 seeds by killing 8 pairs of soldiers and undead, planting first and looting second.

Hazram... your post are getting insulting.

First, i have tried DOZENS of times on the quest, dozens of different methods...
    as have many players...
    read other forums...
    check the other threads....
    watch the in-game chat.

i just logged into game only 5 minuts to make YOU a special video...
in that time 4 people posted "seeds not working" in chat.
    problem is affecting many...
stand in the area and watch players...
very very few will successfully transform the bodies.

Video of planting seed before looting... still bugged.

    Not working for me either.

Lvl 44 Dragonknight if that counts for anything.

I can dump all 6 seeds into one corpse, and nothing happens, other than I use up all the seeds without getting any quest credit, and have to abandon+restart the quest to get some seeds again.

I've seen people do it successfully, running past and planting in MY KILLS (so there goes your "don't be lazy" theory Hazram).

I've never had the option to loot before planting.

I have tried every mob in that little area, guess what.... NOTHING!

This is a proper, legit, real bug.

    Help please.

Same problem here, level 47 DK. I tried switching from one hand & shield to dual wield (in case it had something to do with the bash changes), no help.
I've noticed the players that have success are using staffs, so that might be my next attempt.

In my first post I was addressing those who were trying to use others' kills, which obviously does use up a seed but gets no results. Yes, I completed the quest successfully, and yes I recognize that the steps I took may not work for everyone. If I offended people who did not fail in their attempt because of trying to use others' kills, that was not my intention and I apologize.

We can only guess at the complete proportions of the bug, and at a universally effective workaround. There may not be such a workaround. For the record, this is what I did:

Killed the mobs in the area surrounding npc who gives the death-rune. Killed only heritance-soldier/undead pairs. Planted the seed on the soldier before looting the undead. Level 48 Sorc using a staff, in the Dominion. Had no other Endless War quests from the other mages or champions at the time.

    **Update**
I abandoned the quest and restarted using only a staff, no change. The option to plant seed is there, but the quest doesn't update and it consumes a seed (just as in the video linked previously).

I have this problem now as well (since patch 1.1.2). I've tried abandoning the quest, and being very careful to only click on the soldiers - still no luck, not getting any credits and the seeds are all getting used.

I'm wondering if it was fixed in their hotfix yesterday, because I just logged in this morning (I didn't play at all on Friday), abandoned the quest I had left in my journal, picked it up, and did it first thing and it finally worked.

Thank you everyone for your comments.

I'm a VR1 Templar, and thank you for your input, @Hazram , but they were my own kills. I'm a bit overleveled for my quests from playing in Cyrodiil too much, so I came back to finish the PvE.

I'm having the same issue. I tried dropping it, but no luck. When I attempt to loot a mob, the option to plant the seed is the only option. After it click okay, the seed disappears from my inventory, but it does not work. I can even loot the mob afterwards as the option to plant is gone. The game never registers that the seed was planted, only removed from my inventory.

Doesn't work for me despite dropping and restarting quest 5 times. Three times with a group. We only tried to plant on our own kills. Doesn't matter if you skeletons first or plant first. From the 3 of us in group, I got credit for 1 seed out of 18 tries.

I can confirm this suggestion did NOT work for me, and from reading the other thread, the quest inexplicably works for some and consistently fails for others.

I've submitted a bug report and will try to start all three quests, then try to plant seeds while transformed as a skeleton but I doubt that will prove successful. It is clearly a code-error introduced by patch 1.1.2 as they did modify the code for this quest; the patch notes say "Heritance Chillrender and Cutthroat will now give quest credit," but seems they broke it in a way that doesn't affect everyone (by the way I tried doing this quest only plating seeds on Cutthroats I had killed but no dice there either).

Edit: Just to confirm--killing stuff while transformed as a skeleton does not solve the seed planting issue with Juline. The other two parts of this quest with Mim and Relmus are working fine. Just going to wait for the reboot at 3am and see if they slip in any hot-fixes (like for this quest).

I've tried to do other parts of the quest first and try to plant the seeds as a skeleton and it has not worked for me. Still having the issue and I have done this at least 10 times: dropped the quest, then zoned out of Coldharbor and then logged out for a couple of hours; log in, zone back in to Coldharbor, reacquire the quest from The Observer and try to just do seeds quest from Juline on just heritance soldiers that aren't paired with a skeleton that no other player is assist killing. Seeds disappear but does not tick the quest completion forward or animate a corpse. I did this quest with no problems in the PTS beta test, regardless if other players were assist killing or if the Heritance mob was paired with the skeleton.

Hey Mr. Patronizing, I have abandoned and re-taken this quest about 10 times now, and tried all manner of things - including (shock!) only seeding my own kills, making sure no one else is around, etc etc etc etc ad nauseum etc - and I've never once even got so much as one progress in the 0/6 column.

So hey, maybe some people have issues with the quest despite not leeching off other players! #whaddyaknow!

I have tried in a group, planting seeds on my kills only and on others. I have been a skeleton transformed by the rune as well as getting the other 2 quests in that area done before trying the seeds.
I have even tried to do the seeds first as well.

Sent a CS ticket in and it got escalated and the reply was they can't do anything to help me at this time.

I am a veteran rank 1 Nightblade dunmer so its not just confined to being a templar problem.

This is another buggy quests I can't get finished and so my OCD on achievements will not be satisfied.

Yeah. I agree with you that trying to take advantage of someone else's kills isn't right. I am having problems with this quest though as many others are. I try to place a seed, I lose the seed, no animation for the seed growing and no credit on the quest. It sucks that we are continuing to run into broken quests.
