@ZOS Rune Focus Discussion

This is a discussion on the skill and changes regarding the changes to Rune Focus and it's morph's as I'll quote from the patch notes
Rune Focus: Revised the tooltips for this ability and its morphs to indicate that the Major Ward and Major Resolve buffs will stick to you for 8 seconds after leaving the rune, while the morph effects of Channeled Focus and Restoring Focus require you to remain in the rune at all times.

So I'd like to point out, currently in Live you do not have to stand inside the Rune for the Magicka Return from Channeled Focus which lasts 18 seconds. This is very vital to the play style of a Templar as that Magicka Return is heavy sustain for a Templar, being able to freely move around and keeping your buffs up with this skill, it's also exetremly useful for my playstyle in particular whilst I know it affects me it also affects majority if not all of Templar players, including Healers and Tanks and as far as Damage.

Why this change is bad?
I'm starting to believe that Zenimax do not play their game at all there is absolutely no situation at all in this game play style that requires a player to stand still, if you stand still you are going to die, Elder Scrolls Online has far too many Environmental Mechanics for this type of change, it does not enable this skill at all, it also makes Templar sustain plummet. Take for instance Maelstrom Arena, you can not stand still in that at all, nor any of the trials as ESO is a progression based game and requires players to be very dynamic.

I sincerely hope this change gets reverted back to how it is on Live, because as of right now this is a nerf that completely and utterly ruins the class sustain, please in future, review such changes like this.

EDIT: Not only is the change absurd but it doesn't fit the playstyle of a Templar, How are we meant to stand still in a circle with a cone attack as our main damage ability

I 100% agree with this post. Having to stand in that tiny ass circle or recasting it every time I take a few steps in a game that I HAVE to constantly move around in.... yeah I may as well not use that skill anymore. We already got a minor nerf on BoL... please don't ruin it with this as well. Wth is with all the Templar hate anyway ZOS?

No other class has as many clunky and derpy mechanics as templar. If you want to make someone stand inside a circle because you think, for whatever reason, it's a nifty (pun! har har OP :P) idea, then give it to DKs since they're supposed to be standing their ground or whatever.

Every skill that's clunky because of poor targeting/cast time/mechanics:
    1. radial sweep - the damage comes in three pulses all in a 6m radius for enemies to take full damage, very difficult to pull off in pvp
    2. jabs/sweep - easy to strafe/walk through/avoid, has a channel time
    3. blazing spears - you have to be prophetic to know both where your opponent will be and where the lag will allow you to actually drop the spears
    4. dark flare - channel, easy to spot, avoid, and reflect
    5. radiant destruction - channel, not as derpy as the others, but still requires a channel
    6. remembrance - you're locked in place for 4 seconds and it's another channel
    7. ritual - cast time, slow mobility while casting, not a reliable group heal - which is the entire purpose of the skill
    8. focus - now you're locked inside a tiny circle, yay. Guess what, it doesn't work that way in pvp

If templars are supposed to have a few channels/cast time skills because that's the intention fine. If some classes need to have a few derpy mechanics just because, then whatever. But there's NO REASON for templar to have both, and to have that many. If you were to compile a list of skills from the other 3 classes that have awkward mechanics that make them difficult to use, even if you were to combine those three lists I STILL think the templar list would be longer. They shouldn't revert it back to how it is on live. They should rework the skill to encourage mobility.

    We've begged for fixes to our gap closer and they tried to fix it as best as they could, yet they give us an ability that requires us to stay in one place. Comparing this ability to other class abilities;

Lightning form: grants expedition & resistance & small aoe.
Double Take: grants expedition & dodge chance/ Mirage grants resistance.
Volatile armor: grants resistance & an aoe to reveal stealthed enemies.

None of these require the individual to stand in one spot, in fact two of them give the caster a bonus to movement speed. Can @Wrobel please explain the reasoning behind forcing Templars to stand still and let themselves get destroyed by wrecking blow spam and now crystal frag spam? There is no logical explanation for some of these changes save for the potential fact that no one at ZOS has invested any legitimate amount of time playing the Templar class.

The change to rune focus was stupid and should be reverted. End of discussion.

Correct. This is the first time when ZoS's inability to fix bugs is benefiting the game.

There was a huge forum discussion about how Templars need mobility urgently:
    - how often can you stand still in a veteran dungeon boss fight?
    - how often you can stand still in vMA?
    - how often you can stand still in PvP 1v1?
    ...
ZOS said lately that the new Thieves DLC dungeons will require even more mobility.
Mobility is key in this game, becoming more important with each DLC.

Either Templars get mobility, or they are a thing of the past.
The latest PTS Templar changes are exactly the opposite of what is required to play this game.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. Even in older content you can see the need for mobility, but we get by. We cannot depend on the buffs we receive from any circle that we need to lay on the ground. We would all love to be in our preferred circle 100% of the time, but realistically there is a lot going on, a lot of spells we need to cast etc. so we may not be able to refresh it, or are forced out of it by AOE's or other mechanics. ESO wants us to move around, it is not a tab target game - so help us move please.

It was fine the way it was/is now.
If anything it should trigger a damage shield if you are forced out of the circle that explodes after a certain period of time so you know it is time to recast..

Then is might be on par with other shield type skills.

Judging by the first boss of the new Trial, standing still is NOT an option. It looks like melee DPS is barely an option.

This is exactly why it feels almost pointless to even discuss topics, because you wonder if they even understand it at all. Do they even play their own game? It really is a very valid question.

No, this needs to be addressed or it will just be stealth fixed when TG goes live.

There's a good chance nothing we say or do will change anything, but hiding and hoping ZOS won't realize that their nerf didn't take the first time won't work.

@Nifty2g You just nailed this one out the park

If you no longer regen magic when you leave the circle, then your better off with Restoring Focus all the way due to the 8% Damage reduction(which isn't all that great but atleast you don't lose it if you have to move AFAIK)

I really hope they revert this, Channell Focus was one of the few Templar skills that was useful and worked correctly Considering the class has zero passives to Regen or Reduced cost and 10% from slotting Repentence is nothing compared to what other classes get for Regen Class Passives.

I agree and forcing players to run repentance on both bars purely for the regeneration comes at a heavy loss with a lot of the changes in this update
