you don't need to be tanky to play 95% of content in ESO so why not just be DPS, survive just as well (magicka dps gets good shields and heals, stamina gets vigor/rally plus dodge roll, blocking ,etc.) and kill things in a fraction of the time.
every style is capable of being survivable in its own right, tanks are just the only one that does no damage.
and nerf to stam regen was a kick in the testi's to tanks.
As a tank I'll vote for this option as well. The role seems outdated for a lot of the content with the exception of trials. 3 DPS and a healtank with DPS support gets you a long way in all 4 man group content if the players are competent to pull it off. With bad players standing in red, doing low DPS etc. a tank is always helpful though.
The ones blaming stamina regen nerf as a reason are just bad tanks. Get you resource management together Tyrone! And "we MUST have a templar healer cuz i need shardz" proves just that

standing in block for like couple minutes. throw a horn when ready. if your stam gets low ask for a spear.
everything done....
The stam regen nerf was just stupid. nobody changed style to play as ZOS tried to force us to, and various comments prove it. we just learned to rely on methods other then stam regen to generate stamina, we all circumvented the nerf.
good tanks remained just as good, noobs got screwed, tanks disappeared, and build diversity narrowed even further.

People can also stack penetration so heavy doesn't really do that much. 5pc heavy dies just as fast as everyone else.

I have a baby magicka tank, but I mostly play on my two DPS characters instead of developing her. Honestly, a lot of the time I don't feel useful as a tank.
I tank in pvp and you get people saying in zone chat "everyone should be stacking damage" and "tanks shouldn't be here", and then you get people in dungeons saying "you don't need a tank for a lot of content just get 3 DPS and a healer". Maelstrom Arena? Not really tank friendly. Questing is also quicker with a DPS.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy tanking now and then. But I feel like there are more opportunities on my DPS characters at the moment.
My biggest problem is scaling of abilities. I want to tank in "classic way", that means my main tools are armor and health pool. But if I do that I don't do any damage, so that's why I stopped tanking.

DPS for the DPS God blah blah blah, the game is literally nothing but DPS everywhere and it kind of sickens me that no one besides Tank players even seem to care. Of course why would they, their play-styles are not only important, but vital in the current state of the game, why increase the chance of making themselves less useful in the grand scheme by advocating for Tanks to get a fair shake? From a game-play perspective this game has pissed me off since launch, and it does not get any better for me personally. In the beginning it was Staves Online: literally all else is pointless! And slowly it has change and morphed into DPS Online: Tanks are literally pointless!. Unfortunately, while Staves Online was quite fixable, and eventually was, DPS Online is not, because the layout of the (imo) god awful Champion Point system clearly speaks volumes about how few *** are given about Tanking. As said above, DPS can just stack mitigation and resistances through the CP system, not to mention they can get basically unlimited Armor Penetration. ZOS has made it quite clear they don't care about Tanks, everything they develop caters to DPS, and more often than not actively punishes Tanks (I'm looking at you Maelstrom). Tanks have become a worthless, rusted third wheel left to rot in the weeds that no one wants or cares about, not even the people doing the yard-work. That might not be true, but I can tell you that from my perspective as a Tank, even one who has adapted to the new methods post Stam nerf...that's exactly how it feels to me.
