I just received a cross-screen message advertising the new Senche Leopard mount. It went across my screen multiple times in multiple languages. Should subscribers be able to opt out of these cross-screen ads? Please vote and share your reasoning if so inclined.

I truly believe these ads should be limited to the chat box. Cross-screen ads are intrusive. At the very least, subscribers should be able to opt out.

The answer is both yes and no.

Subscribers need to see important notifications. We've been conditioned to believe that world broadcasts contain high-priority, game-affecting information. They need to stop spamming low-priority information on a high-priority channel that shouldn't have an on/off switch because it's supposed to be a valuable resource to give everybody in the game one message at one time.

But as far as "BUY CROWNS" buttons and things like that? Should never exist on subscriber accounts. You know how crowns work because that's already a perk for subscribing. You don't need a reminder on how to get more, and if you do, there's Google, Bing, and dozens of other portals that even the lowest-level wizard can use successfully.

In all seriousness ..... what notifications would you consider "important".

For me, I do want to know when the server is going down. That's pretty much it.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Correct. If it's not basically "Finish what you're doing in the next X minutes or log off now" then it does not need to be on that channel. The channel needs to stay. Low-priority spam needs to go.

While everyone deserves options I've yet to play any MMO that allowed paying. subbing and non-subbing customers choose when the company that runs the game can advertise.

Third party....yes but the developer....no option should exist..
Maybe the best way to approach this is to come up with ideas that benefit ZOS like asking them to place them at log-in or within certain menus that cannot be blocked by add-ons

    just my two cents tho

I don't mind chat box ads, launcher ads, etc. What I'm asking in the poll refers specifically to the cross-screen (intrusive) ads. These (IMHO) should be able to be opted-out by subs.

I completely understand your point of view but I don't think that is a logical expectation without offering an equally beneficial alternative to ZOS.

Those cross screen messages should only be for system messages like shutting down in five minutes. They should not be advertising the crown store. I don't care whether it's a limited time item or not.

Those messages can get players killed because they are a distraction.

That being said, if they are going to do it, subscribers should be able to opt out.

Yes, subscribers should be able to opt out of cross-screen advertisements.
I voted yes, but to be more specific:

Ideally no one should be able to opt-out of advertising via system messages because they shouldn't be used for advertising. As other people have said there are several appropriate places for advertising in the game like on the launcher, the login screen, maybe loading screens, even via mail. But not system messages which are supposed to be for important announcements about the game's status.

Also I'm not suggesting subscribers should, or would want to, opt out of ALL system messages. This would only be for crown store advertising messages.

(Finally for what it's worth I'm not a subscriber, never have been and have no plans to start in the foreseeable future. I just think people who are already paying monthly and getting an allotment of crowns are unlikely to need messages splashed across the screen to encourage them to spend those crowns.)

Poll should be more along the lines of "Should there be Cross-Screen Advertising".

Either way, it shouldn't be there. It's intrusive to the users, and is not needed when you advertise it in emails, on your website, and make it the featured item of your Crown Store. It should stop there, with no need for the advertisement to pop up. It's quite annoying, and completely unnecessary.

Leave the cross-screen messages to important issues, like server issues/performances.

I am adamantly against the ads being there AT ALL. But considering the fact that I continue to support this game and have since pre-launch I would THINK that I and my fellow subscribers could be spared this tacky nonsense.

I don't think ZOS's advertisements have been "intrusive" of the game, however, I think if you're paying an active subscription you're contributing already. Advertisements have one purpose- generating income for a business. If you're already providing I don't see why you should continue to get bombarded with them.

I also think that as long as they remain non-intrusive (i.e., they don't interfere with content or gameplay) I'm OK with them.
TL;DR - If you got this far without reading the entire post you're either too lazy or suck at reading comprehension and probably don't belong in a public forum anyway. Just move along, you wouldn't understand.

I can't believe that the developers that put so much work into such a beautiful graphic environment would have said they were in favor of this. I'm going to go ahead and assume they thought this was a stupid idea, and some suit forced the issue anyway.

That would be a definite reason to sub
As a casual player I was satisfied that at one point I had a char max level and near max crafting with almost all motifs and I pretty much lost interest. Then ESO discovered DLC's and now my main is just a wanabe and I am happily pulled back into the game.

I've played other games that have advertizing like this. I liken it to crying wolf. Them more I see pop up there that I don't care about, the more I ignore the pop-ups. So when something actually important pops up, I ignore it.

And at the very least give us a language select so I don't have to see the same add three times, twice in a language I don't speak. That just makes it more crying wolf. Yesterday, when the leopard mount add popped up, the third time I didn't even bother to look at it to see what language it was (someone in the chat said German, but I'd think French is more likely).
