999+ latency and insane lag

the past week or so every time i log in my latency shoots up to 999+ and doesn't go down unless i re log or restart the game entirely and even then most of the time it will happen again a few minutes later is this a known issue or is it a problem from my side

Hi there,

You first want to confirm your overall connection speed is not having any issues. You can verify your connection speed at a third party site like http://www.speedtest.net.
If your overall speed is fine, you then want to disable any firewalls or anti-virus running on the machine. Default Windows firewalls will come on automatically after others are disabled, so keep in mind that the Windows firewall may need to be disabled, too. Always remember to turn them on again after the download completes.

You will also want to make sure the following ports are open in your router:

24100 through 24131
24500 through 24507

If any of these ports are blocked, it can degrade the download speed you are getting.
Could you also run your Launcher and game as Admin?

I have the EXACT same problem... but it only happens to me in Cyrodiil. Sometimes my lag jumps up from 20 ping to 500 or so for a second, but in Cyrodiil... if I ever start lagging, it jumps to 999+ and logs me out of the game. Every. Single. Time.

It's definitely not me or my router.

Everything listed here is already done and tested, same result as before. Random lag-spikes or kicks...

Started getting huge lag spikes and disconnects over the last 2 days. EU server Thornblade =6-700 spikes crashes. I am now sitting on chillrend server not locked on 2 factions and have 200+ ping, I only had 230 on the NA server . This is getting ridiculous.

Thank you for your reply but it doesn't help much. I am encountering constant disconnects last night and today. Pings are higher on the EU server than they were on the NA server. I recently resubbed and changed my sub to 3 months I will now be lowering it to 1 month to get my loyalty rewards and as soon as I get them I will unsub and play for free until dlc comes IF you get the lag sorted. Sick and tired of paying for something that clearly doesn't work.

The lag and disconnects on thorn EU tonight are the worst I've seen.
Usually I don't have problems with disconnects, but over the last week it has been terrible, extreme lag and then kicked every 20 minutes or so.

Like I said I don't usually have this kind of issues other than the typical Zerg lag bombing, and I've never had constant disconnects like this.

My ISP is fine and I have all addons disabled.

Gotcha, so it's not just a Cyrodiil thing. We'll be sure to send this feedback along and take a look into it. We're seeing it's been happening for at least a week or so. Did you happen to notice any improvements, even for a short period, after the maintenance on Tuesday?

Its been worse than ever for me since Tuesday.....something is different and whatever they did they need to reverse it or fix it.

Same issue here, i get bad ping on both pve and pvp. it only started recently with months of it being fine.

Same here, Much higher than normal latency, With random spikes too 500-999MS, Today they have become more frequent, Making the game exceptionally difficult to play, before maintence I always had latency of around 57-80MS, In Cyrodiil only did it go up, And even then never above 120MS.

Did a tracert to the EU server, Jump 4 timed out, After jump 8 the latency got worse.

I get my usual results on pingtest.net 18 MS to a server 100 miles away 0% packet loss, 0 jitter. And speedtest.net 8ms Ping, 161.56 mb/s download 12.46 mb/s upload.

Not suffering with any lag at all in Guildwars 2.

adding my +1 here with the same issues as icemere, abraxus and others...

All went down hill (well, worse than it was before anyway) since maintenance Tuesday, both in Cyrodiil and Hel Ra.

Same issues as above regardless of the zone I'm in or whether I'm in an indoor or outdoor area. Its been really horrendous lately and only seems to be getting worse. Normally when I log on now my PR is just short of 200 and then will more often than not spike to 500 and above. I also Play on the EU Server.

Worse than ever before. NA/AD outside Cyrodiil, all areas whether vet or not, opened ports, flushed DNS, all add-ons (whole folder) removed. The game will ping to 600 or 400, fps will drop and a second later, my fps is back to 70s-90s...then repeats. Sometimes the lag is horrible but the ping is 119. Comcast

I have also lag spikes and disconnects. Never had this issues and i play everydays since beta, including this morning was all good. Already did all the recommended fixes but still impossiple play like this now.
My internet provider is NOS from lisbon Portugal

Its 1.26 AM Uk time, And my latency has dropped back down to its normal levels 57-80MS on the EU server, Seems odd that just after 1AM things return to normal, if a fix has been found awesome!

I started playing the game about 5 days ago and have noticed that latency has been 999+ quite a few times. Today it's especially bad with two disconnects due to server not responding.

Low level character doing PvE only in Auridon. Connecting using TWC from Florida.

So I've just been on the phone to virgin after several tests everything seems fine there end, I asked if the policy had changed recently on p2p in which it hasn't, it's still got the limit for peak time though if you go over they'll decrease by 10% for an hour go over again decreases by 16% and so on and so on but even if you played eso all day long this would never go over.

After all the information I believe that this issue has arisen since the maintenance last week which concerns me that zenimax has changed something to try give us better performance but it's actually done the opposite, I did several test on other MMO's to see if I was having latency issues and the conclusion from DCUO,SWTOR,NEVERWINTER,ARCHEAGE is no all ran without a problem.

not sure where VM come into this. Not sure what backbone providers those are but those are well out of VM's network as far as I know .. I have VM in Warrington, FYI, and have noticed similar latency (even though I don't know how to see it as per my previous post) and I too have done tracerts and seen the same pattern with 'pings' suddenly leaping to 100+ at that point.
