1.6 provisioning mats. Gotta be a thief it seems.

I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure I read in several articles/dev comments that there were going to be plenty of containers to search through for provisioning mats and/or motifs w/o getting flagged as a criminal.

So far, that doesn't seem to be the case at all. 95% of the containers I've seen are private. This includes crates and barrels on city docks.

2cz3frt.png

Now of course you can make the argument that this is realistic since all items in town in crates and baskets technically belong to someone, but provisioning is a major part of the game and many people are concerned that they will be forced to draw the wrath of the local guards just to make a pie. Many assurances were given that this wouldn't be an issue.

Hopefully this gets adjusted before 1.6 goes live, because right now almost every container is going to require a burglar. At least in town.

EDIT: It was mentioned in this thread that most of the mats required for food/drink can be purchased from chefs/brewers. This indeed appears to be the case. I had only checked the grocer before making this post. Just about everything you need can be bought for 10g from Grocer/Brewer/Chef. It didn't occur to me to check brewer/chefs because this change is also new with 1.6

My apologies for being mistaken. It would appear that we can buy our groceries like civilized folk, or we can steal them from civilized folk. :)

Purple recipe mats are a different matter. At least that is the word on the street.

I too was under the impression there would be more 'free' containers than not, but indeed most seem to be owned. The good thing (at least so far for me) is that container stealing is very easy and only incur a bounty if caught/seen. And even then it's not too much.

If the town is owned by regular friendly folk, then their items are usually going to be owned by them. You should be able to locate unowned foodstuffs in places where there are no laws.

Right, well in all fairness, city docks are (were) by far the easiest and most accessible place to farm provisioning mats. As well as warehouses. I am currently searching for different places that fit the bill as "lawless" or "unsavory" locations to find provisioning food. There are some crates in dungeons of course and the occasional bandit camps. But make no mistake about it - It will definitely require more footwork. Unless you want to steal it of course.

So in other word... You are sad that they removed the easiest way to get free stuff for one the easiest profession?

In other news, lots of free loot in the wild and in the dungeon... In some way i am happy that we can't no longer freely loot everything in sight while in town. It while force people to go outside of town...

Note : might also prevent the return of the bot since they will have to go outside in the wild and be at risk.

I actually kinda like it. But there are plenty of people that are going to be upset because they were told it wasn't going to be an issue. /shrug. Wait and see.

Same here, I love it. I think people will come around once they see how easy it is to get away with. It's nowhere near like when you kill someone and you got auto max heat.

If they have reduced down the ingredients to a point inventory space is not such an issue I dont see it being a problem. There are more than a few delves that I can think of to go looting in... the only potential issue will be if higher end ingredients come from Craglorn and above. I don't want to be dependent on having a group (or being a class build that can solo group delves..) to get access to ingredients.

Technically you were already being a thief before 1.6 since all or most mats came from crates and stuff. You are now simply being punished for it, which kind of makes sense in an Elder Scrolls game.

There should be those little random huts you find all over the country side as you explore...Some of these places youve probably forgotten about as they arent anything special. But they almost always have a sack in them.

Theres also random camp sites and abandoned sites all around that typically have sacks and baskets.

I got a lot of foodstuffs from quests after you kill the enemies. It's still stealing but since everyone has been killed, you just load up on it. Nice ingredients and free (no bounty).

Funny though on the banks they now have guards watching you and you get caught right away!

You can also buy the mats all the way up to blue food. The only mats I have not seen at the merchant is for purple food.

To me this is awesome. If the only way to lvl the new skill line is to participate in this kind of outlawed activity then I'm all for it. I shall farm provisioning mats if need be.

The good news is: even if the items are stolen, once you use them to craft something, they are "clean" items. So just be fast about making your food.

It seems most 'steals' give 1 exp in the LD skill line. So, ya it's going to make the mundane act of farming so much better. Heck, even after the line is maxed, I'll be stealing in more difficult and challenging spots just for the funzies.

I'm still patching (10+ hours now) so this is something I really wanna test out, see what lvl's it best and such. But with the change in provisioning I can see this actually being beneficial for both.

Out in the wilderness, there still are. There are a ton of delves with massive stockpiles of provisioning containers.

Anyway, the other way is to buy your groceries like a civilized person. All ingredients (except for the two tied to purple recipes (oats and tomatoes on live, but they have new names on 1.6)) are available for 10g a piece.

Brewers now have drink ingredients, and chefs now have a full stock of food ingredients. You might need to hunt down the grocers for specific ingredients. I'm not sure, but I didn't see anything that would have required that.

I wonder though, how this will effect motif farming? They only appear in certain containers and so far I haven't come across a single 'free' motif container.

I've seen a few out in the wilderness. But they are rare. This is going to play havoc with people getting non-dwemer motifs.
