I tested on PS4. I didn’t see all that much difference to be honest.

Maybe slightly better performance in Cyrodiil and about the same in PVE zones.

It did nothing to help me last night. Ported to Sejanus while under attack - appeared in a half-empty keep with nothing working, requiring me to Alt-F4 + task manager kill the crashed ESO process. Later on during a 1v1 fight my hotbar became all grey and I could no longer cast or swap weapons, forcing me to run away from the battle. Later in the night I was riding toward BRK while under attack by two large forces - game stopped updating and required another Alt-F4 + task manager kill to quit. I decided to end my night of lag and crashes there.

For ppl like me with multiple 500 man guild rosters...this works. Definitely helped when the FPS dropped it when I entered a new instance or PvP zone on Xbox. Thanks for the early Xmas present OP

The problem being fixed on ZOS's end has the potential to have a bigger impact on the server traffic than the workaround for an individual player, so thankfully this post got some attention. This constant roster updating for all guild is something that is happening from every player in the game. Maybe it helps a little for an individual disabling it for themselves, but it might help a lot if a fix is applied to all clients to stop this unnecessary server traffic. We'll see.

This is a placebo effect in action.

If it was a placebo, the devs would have caught it when testing.

Things aren't just tested once and taken at face value. Whenever something like this is tested, developers test it, retest it, retest it, retest it, retest it... and they would likely be constantly reverting changes and experimenting to ensure that their changes are actually causing the results they're seeing.

If you aren't seeing any change, it's likely that what I said is the case: this is just the sort of bottleneck that only affects weaker systems. Even if only weaker systems are affected, that's still a positive result. Plus, as somebody else pointed out, this is still imposing server load, so fixing this could actually improve server performance a little bit.

The cynics will note lag and disconnects have occurred for years. Multiple times ZOS has claimed to be working on fixes, yet lag and disconnects have still occured. I will be elated if the current “fix” solves the problem. The cynics will also note that ZOS did not find this “fix”.

That's not the point. isn't a crown store problem, and they saw this. Better than nothing I guess. and he didn't say they found the fix btw.

@Tandor I hope you realize that they couldn't work this out for years and someone else was able to. they've clearly allocated more time and money to the crown store then game performance. Even Fanboys like you will run out of money someday

Just for saying that isn't a crown store problem makes him a fanboy for he expressing his disgust at people that just are whining at everything? huh.

Hi @ZOS_GinaBruno , thanks a lot for the feedback and the quick fixes.

That beign said, I can't help but feel frustrated that such an easy fix solves such a huge performance problem (for consoles and older pcs, at least). Many times a week, we see countless threads asking for performance upgrades, or even a bug & lag update instead of a whole DLC. I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure that I saw you write in here that ZOS was working hard at improving performance problems, then we realize such a blatant bug was overlooked for only-god-knows how long.

We know that lag and bugs are killing the game for many long-time players. So my question is, what is ZOS's official stand on the matter. What are your action plan for this huge issue?

Many people here asked you to give me crowns or whatnot for bringing this bug to light. I don't want any of this. But an honest answer to this question would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Thank you,

They should go through the entire UI with the mindset of "are any of our current features causing unnecessary lag" in mind and see if anything else is causing this.

Wouldn't put it past me if the Map in Cyro/PVP Cyro score leaderboard is causing ALOT of lag since it might be constantly updating to display seige numbers/AP ticks/ ranking etc.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Any confirmation that the team might be looking into other systems for optimization?

Wondering how many guilds you belong to and about how many members in them? If it's low to none then you will not see much improvement.

Have noticed that the newer areas with the environmental effects has an effect on performance and I have seen that get a lot better using this. As well as skills firing more reliable and shortened my load screen times after application.

Her mention specifically of "next update" would indicate they hope to implement it with the Q1 major update and not an incremental patch before then.

We've yet to hear if Q1 will just be a QoL update, or a pair of new DLC dungeons. I, personally, am hoping for the former.

On PC I didn't notice any difference in lag with my name in the search field of a guild.

    - I am in 3 guilds
    - changed to the one with the most members and typed in my name into search field so I am the only name in the members list
    - gone to the first keep defended by my faction attacked by a 12 ppl grp of blues and a bigger red blob
    - abilities didn't fire at all and lag was horrible
    - so no proof for me this "fix" is working

It sounds so good I hope there will be more investigation of ZOS and maybe a real patch including parts of this issue in the future so the lag gets better. Currently the game is unplayable in PVP.

I'm certain I've said this enough times to drive my guildmates insane, most likely, but I really wish for another quarterly where, instead of new content, we could have another One Tamriel (aka Update 12/Patch 2.6.4) major patch that overhauls, streamlines, and/or outright focuses on fixes and rethinking the current game design for certain systems. Granted, there's not a lot to market with that, but at this point I'd be willing to throw currency in ZOS' general direction if they spent a quarterly just for this.

Can confirm this works on PC. I havent played much recently because everytime I do its not long till I dc. Played for several hrs and no dc, I dont remember the last time that happened.

Im glad someone found a fix but this is such an incredible oversight, if I was an investor of this company and found out about this I'd call for people to get fired. Thats my objective view. I would be increadibly embarrassed.

Xbox na - buzz-lockup-crash still occurring in Cyro. Slight improvement to lag in general. Still get load screens and freezes.

So, since I started playing pvp about 1 month ago, I've never been able to rush the flags in a defended keep because the game would aways drop to atrocious fps, crash, and send me back to Xbox's home screen. I also had many crashes in medium-sized fights outside of keeps. I have a basic Xbox 1, with the game installed directly on it's hard drive, so it might be the most fragile setup, but this situation has pulled me back from Cyro to a point where I was only playing BGs.

All this until last night, where I could'nt queue in any BG or dungeon, because the damn group finder was bugged again. So I decided to hop in Cyro, to begin to farm my tier 1 reward for the month. Someone in my random group told us that a great way to reduce lag was to type your own name in the search tab of the guild roster. It reduced cpu usage or wathever. I thought this was a load of bs, but I tried it anyway, since it doesn't cost much. Well, believe it or not, after that I was able to rush the flags in 3 heavily defended keeps without too many lag spikes and no crash at all. Well, not too many lag spikes for this game anyway...

I know it's just 1 session and it doesn't mean much, but all 3 pops were locked and there was a lot of people, so it's pretty encouraging for now. Try it yourself and tell us if it helps!

..so... is it... after long years, bilions of topics, reports, etc... a 'solution' from... a player ... who coincidentally found a possible temporary solution..

    Ty ZOS.
