We are going to be pushing a small incremental patch (1.5.8) to the live megaservers next week, but we're still testing Update 6 internally. We want it to be in good shape before we hand it over to all of you on the PTS. We'll let you know when we have a better idea of when that will be, but in the name of being as transparent as we can, there is a possibility it will not be next week.

Although not what I wanted to hear, Thanks for the Update! :)

Honestly you guys have how many players here waiting to test 1.6 at this point? I'd imagine the shear volume of players going to the PTS for this would trump in one day what you guys could test in weeks. But just my opinion. Maybe I'm over estimating the participation in the PTS.

Maybe release a list of thisngs you'd like feed back on like ya have previous times.

Absolutely, we do plan to do that. We're putting together a schedule of testing events to help us get some very focused testing and feedback on specific things. We'll also have a list of suggested testing goals we'll share when we post the patch notes.

I wonder if it's purely coincidental, that any VR progress people make before 1.6 goes live is gets wiped out and ZOS wants lots of testing of 1.6 on the PTS. Almost seems like people have nothing they can do but test 1.6. /takes tinfoil hat off.

Honestly, I'm not surprised that they haven't given us even a placeholder date, what with the ____gate screaming a lot of members are doing. If they said "Oh, PTS should be up by January 20th', and it ended up being the 21st, everyone would claw their faces off...

If people are going to [snip] and moan about every mistake, we shouldn't be surprised that ZoS is keeping its card close to the chest. Self preservation, eh?

Perhaps if we were all a little more encouraging, they'd be more open..? *shrug*

I'm happy that ZOS is trying to get this right, and as long as they keep pushing back the release date to the live server and give it ample time to test it then I'm good.

Only problem I have right now is Haderus has gotten boring again, it seems rather pointless to level any other character below VR14 due to abilities changing and only getting 30 Champion points regardless of VR rank... so... not really much else to do in the game for me atm. I hate crag and trials so that leaves PvP. Thorn is laggy mess and Haderus is great once or twice a week. So I just feed my horses, gather alchemy plants, maybe do a writ or two and then log off.

wtf is wrong with you people, instead of whining just wait for the update to come out. do you want it to be extremely buggy or stable? it's obviously going to be the biggest update this game has had

Don't want to be a negative nancy but please can that list include a zerg on zerg battle in PVP and see how it "works out" as Im pretty sure you get alot of feed back for that problem alone. ;)

I can't help thinking that they have tried to do too much in one go. Why not introduce the Justice System and the Champion System separately? There are other changes in 1.6 that seem unnecessary - VR10 foods, stacking food and drink, combat mechanics (AoE effects), bug fixes, etc.

There's rumours that the patch notes are already over 60 pages!

Even to test 1.6 on the PTS we'll have to read a users guide - and just imagine how confused the people who don't read the forums are going to be when they wake up to 1.6.

It could also be that they are not working on separate codebases for each sprint to avoid merge issues and to simplify test, to see that everything works well together. It takes more time to use the same code base but work on development in separate codebases and then have to merge and then test it over again to see that no code changes in different codebases conflicts and creates issues.

All thou, usually hotfixes are done in a codebase based on production and then merged to the development codebases, that's how most companies I know do it. Thou I am a dev. I do not work with games at all so I could hypothetically miss something...

I don't know anything about internal structures at ZOS, but I bet that they have more than one dev team. One is working on combat, one on justice system and so on. This means that when they work on different stuff, they see the effects it may have and can adjust it either way; from my understanding this results in a more stable and in the end faster delivery of the system as a whole.

I can only imagine how many things you have to think about when implementing changes like the ones coming with 1.6. I'm also working as a developer, but when I write code I know exactly what it will do and what the users do with it (as in, it's very specific stuff).I suppose you don't really have the latter one in an MMO, do you?

This is correct. :) And the dev teams work together as well. For example, the gameplay team and the dungeon team work together to ensure any new dungeons provide a good, rounded experience.

Hence why there are project managers and producers within companies.

They don't really do much actual 'work' themselves anymore, they just make sure that team a and team b understand that team c is doing something that will completely turn their day around.

There are probably 10-12 teams working on each

    Itemization
    PvP
    Champion
    Justice
    Artwork
    Gameplay
    Dungeon
    Trial
    Music
    Animation
    UI/UX

off the top of my head.

All of these guys and gals are writing code in blocks that has to be then assigned into the whole build.

Thats a lot of ways things can go wrong lol.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

6 had better be phenomenal. I really mean it. With all the BS we have put up with since release, this CP nonsense has been the straw for me personally. I haven't even logged into the game in the last two weeks and my sub just renewed today. Unless I see a compelling reason to keep playing I'm certainly not going to keep paying for it. I will check it out when it hits PTS and bugs aside, it had better be fun to play again or I'm jumping ship.

I haven't had fun playing this game in over a month. The content is old and tired and the mechanics are a joke, i.e. block casting, limited useful builds, etc. I'm fairly certain they will never fix Cyrodiil, or release a reasonably working update. I played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim for years. Each iteration was an improvement on graphics, physics, and AI. I never thought I would be bored of an Elder Scrolls game in under a year. At this point I find it to be a mediocre MMO and a sad imitation of a TES game. I really hope 6 changes this.

I just want 6 to be an improvement and change to the current systems.

Once I found out we'd only be getting 30 CP instead of the XP tracking conversion... I dropped off on my play time.

I am looking forward to 1.6, but I have other games and projects I want to finish before it gets here.

I would be most interested in what UI team and "LFG team" are doing atm. Are they all working on console UI and thus can't do anything with PC UI or is there another reason for "not exactly stellar performance"?

"shortly" in ZOS' offices means "sometime this year. Maybe. If we can be bothered."
