Australian/NZ Retail Boxes need disclaimer sticker.

It should read.

"Connection to the North American game server is not available Monday and Thursday nights in Australia and New Zealand."

In fine print underneath it should say "Yes we know you are paying more for this retail product than most other places in the world. Suck on that."

EB has the game on special this week. Only $68...

Not so bad if in NZ because down time starts at 10pm. Of course this is different for Australia as they are 2-5 hours behind depending on state.

Hey it's fine. They can bring the server down if they want. Just be upfront about it before we buy the game. Going in to this I expected the game might be down once a week. 2 nights a week is a bit much though. I wonder how many copies it would have sold here if that sticker was on the box? How many copies would it have sold in the US if it had a similar sticker?

Quite happy to see the game down two nights per week if this means issues are being addressed; new content added, et cetera.

I play gw2 as well. Purchased the retail box. Nowhere on the box is any mention of their maintenance times. Although their down time is a lot less than this game.

It's commonly known that it's smartest time of the day, globally, to bring down the servers. It makes sense, and we in this time-zone just have to deal with it. I personally don't see it as that big a deal. After all, it's better having maintenance than not.

It sounds like you're quite new to the MMO, scene, so; The game is new, As it ages and becomes more polished, maintenance/downtime will become less and less, it's usually the way it goes with these online entities.
If you can be anything, be kind.

The damn retailers need to stop handing out the explorer's Pack's!!! The code does not work, you do NOT get any of the mentioned perks! I've. Spoken with a rep in-game and I'm not the only on upset about this. The retailers have no authority to hand those codes out, they were only for preorders. Man was I annoyed when I found out my code was unauthorised and bogus!

The issue seems to be with the Australian communications company (I visited in 1995; you guys seemed to have a monopoly thing going then, with something called Telecomm or something like that) ... or laws or such that discourage foreign companies from setting up native Australian servers.

Has there been any push from Australian gamers to make the system a little more video-game friendly? If so, you have my moral support, at least; I'm not a citizen, so I can't really have any say in the matter, but yeah, Canada has been goofy about certain things in the past in the same way. I'm sure some from around the south Pacific (ie, South Americans, New Zealanders, even Koreans, Japanese and Vietnamese, I suppose, would find an Aussie server more convenient than NA or Euro ones, too.

Maybe in the first days after release there were enough players to justify a third server. Not now, and besides the Europeans don't have their own server in Europe yet.

Oceanic/ SEA players wanted a gw2 server in the region too. Thing is; is the player base large enough to warrant the expense of having a server in this region for games like ESO ? (knows it will never happen in gw2).

Fps always have servers based in nz/aus or at least Australia.

    1. Has nothing to do with this thread

I don't read all the text on boxed games. I see the title, grab it, and throw my money at the cashier.

I do sympathize with your frustration, however.

@Arsenic_Touch‌ on the contrary, my code certainly didn't work, and the rep I spoke to did make himself fairly clear regarding what happened.
I don't mean to argue, I'm not the sort. Good point, this is indeed the wrong thread for this - I'll look more thoroughly next time

I wonder if they can do one day at the regular time and the other day 4 hours later one week and 4 hours earlier the next week. This would spread the love around.

Who knows. Maybe maintenance might be cut to one day per week in the future when more bugs are ironed out.

The problem with this is that Maintenance times are usually dictated by concurrency.

So until people start playing the game, set maintenance times cannot be determined.

Game companies try to pick a day/time that will impact the fewest numbers of players but still during their normal work hours.

As others have said, both here and in other threads on this issue, no matter when maintenance occurs, it will impact someone.

Times can/will change during the life of a game. Printing this information on a retail box could result in the information being outdated, then people will complain and want to sue, for the incorrect information being printed on the box.

It is a ZERO win for the game company, no matter which game company it is that takes servers down for maintenance.
