Bolt escape, broken vs frustrating, zos communication

There are skills in many mmo's that are not broken, but are so frustrating to play against that they are perceived as broken. In many games it's the stealth mechanic.

I think bolt escape fits into that category.

Running away, a lot, is certainly not winning. The only thing I can see that was truly "OP" about bolt escape is running with a scroll. In capture the flag if you are faster than everyone else while you carry the flag it's probably broken....

So I would have argued that increased cost of bolt escape while carrying the scroll was warranted.

Otherwise, I don't think we have enough data.

What zos should have done with the bolt escape nerf, or with any nerf, is explain the numbers. They can data mine the game for numbers that we don't have. They should give us the trends to explain any nerf or buff. Were sorcerers with bolt escape winning an inordinate number of their encounters? Was the number of sorcerer deaths disproportionally low? And before someone jumps in with all the sorcerers that got away-that's not data, that's anecdotal.

Give us the logic behind the change or we will assume that flaming in the forums will cause change. I like this game, but if forum flaming alone can cause changes it won't last long.

Zos, please do a better job explaining the trends that cause you to make changes. We don't need specific numbers, just tell us what you see and how the change will fix it. There will always be angry players, but many of us are reasonable people and a little explanation will go a long way.

bolt escape was and is useless in serious AvA/PvP (just was used to "blink in" )

why: you got a shot delay on casting and on arrival (stack with server lags), so sometimes you where dead before you could cast anything (on "EU Servers")

its just a fun farming skill (and a trolling skill) ... i just use it if i collect flowers/mushrooms

One of the reasons I think it got a nerf was because it was used by people to blink into a large group and stun them all. So people would have 2-3 sorcs running bolt escape and all they were asked to do was stun people with it. It was a cheap way for small groups to easily take on the much large ones, imo.

Apart from that nearly ever sorc I ever ran into bolted away as soon as I got him/her to half health.

I'm just glad they got nerfed, now sorcs know what it is to be hit with the nerf hammer xD. Maybe they will finally learn how to play besides the Bolt > Shards > Bolt > Shards combo they were spamming.

Disclaimer: This is not directed towards all sorcs, kthxbai!

No it just drives people away from a game which is losing guys in reams clearly. Some may be back but still its obvious nerfs all around is not the way to go other failed games in the past you'd think the rest would learn from their mistakes

A better solution would have been to give diminishing returns on stuns. But I assume the devs have some 1337 players that like to stun lock and so nerfing was the best way to go.

Yeah bolt escape was really annoying, especially with not every class having a cc charge to stop it from happening. If sorcs had bolt escape and every other class had a charge that cc'd you from the same range, then it'd be moderately okay. But even still, bolt is an aoe cc, and other classes only have single target. I'd rather it be nerfed than other things buffed. Honestly that's how I feel about this whole game. Things are pretty op right now, nerf everything down to the minimum and let people have a challenge.

Gap closers were available to everyone and Dks get a pull so that point is moot.

I think you're right both about BE and ZOS's lack of clear communication. When they make changes like this, they should at least endeavor to explain why.
