Will there be another ES?

Kalamn

So yeah I like this game and all buuut it's not Elder Scrolls feely for me. Will there be another ES addition though? Like not a crappy multiplayer mmo but like one where we actually have fun and maybe even a co-op mode (2-4 players). Im pretty much asking for Skyrim with new feautures and co-op....

Considering Single player ES games are made by a different studio who consider the ES games to be their flagship series, there will almost certainly be more single player ES games. Although i wouldn't want any co-op. I would rather keep that to this game and have Bethesda focus full attention on creating a quality single player game.

Oh I meant like an optional sort of co-op heh.

Depends on what is really going on behind closed doors at ZOS and their financial problems. If ZOS goes out of business then it depends on who has copy rights to the work and story line. Facts we do know is the rapid unexpected layoffs and the game is in the discount bins at the retailers. Only time will tell.

Yes no multilayer and no Co -op in ESVI. They should make it the best sp experience and not waste resources on other stupid crap.

There was a co-op mod for skyrim. The guy who was working on it got abducted by aliens or something though, so I don't know if anyone else has picked up working on that. If I were the suspicious type, I'd think he got picked up to work on this under a NDA given the time frame in which he suddenly vanished from working on the skyrim online project.

I suspect the next actual single player TES will be in Vallenwood/Elswyr. We have a game in pretty much every other region (Daggerfall, Morrowind, Cyradiil, Skyrim). Almost nothing in the south region.
And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

I wouldn't count on Zenimax going out of business. they are the largest private gaming company around. that being said, it won't stop them from decreasing the development teams down to a skeleton crew if too many players jump ship.

what is more likely, is that they have delayed the console release until more people actually own the new consoles, and minimize the workforce and release small bits of content until the cash cow consoles are big enough to milk. I would bank the success of this game long term on what transpires over the next 6-12 months, but not the company itself. Zenimax isn't going to stay on board if the ship sinks.

Probably. Bethesda Game Studios are not developing ESO, so they need to make some new games and since Skyrim sold 20 mln copies, it would be pretty stupid to terminate the single player side of the franchise. Who would say no to that kind of money?

Hopefully no co-op though. Even an optional mode would require a hell of a lot of work that could go into a better single player experience instead. After Skyrim we all know that the base game badly needs more attention, the skill system was gutted and writing still sucks, among other things.
But more importantly, multiplayer means that everyone needs to run the same set of mods or even no mods at all. Mods are the lifeblood of TES, restricting them would only hurt the game in the long run.

Actually, I would really love a skyrim where one other player could join me. I would honestly like that more than this game. That's not intended as a slight on this game either, I enjoy it.

I don't need skyrim to have the mmo population, but it would be fun to play with a buddy.

there is a mod that was made years ago for multiplayer skyrim. I never tried it, but I heard it was decent if you could look past the weird animation glitches.

I believe this was the one: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3592/?

Bethesda was the original company, and the founder of bethesda created Zenimax inc as an umbrella/sugar daddy company to rule them all. Zenimax Online Studios is just another company under that umbrella, like Bethesda. money goes from one hand to the other.

Skyrim sold like crazy , im quite sure they will make a ES6 eventually , but it takes many , many years for one of those to launch.

So maybe by 2017/18, since the last one was 2011.

Probably be a while and I agree, Fallout 4 will come out first. Even though one is a single player and one is an MMO, they probably don't want ES games competing against each other.

At least they didn't make Fallout Online...

Skyrim sold 20 million copies. I think you can very safely say there'll be an Elder Scrolls VI. No co-op. This is my multiplayer ES game. And I'm actually enjoying it. Amazing, isn't it?

i remember reading somewhere that bethesda said that they will continue making TES games, but it willl be a long ways down the road. you best keep an eye out for fallout 4 announcment, that will be the indication that they are ready to start working on TES 6

    "facts"

Let's have a better look at them:

Zenimax Online laid off 300 TEMPORARY workers in Ireland. Which were hired AFTER ESO's release and speculations point to them being CS Staff for the console versions of the game which has now been pushed back. They are HIRING permanent works in US, Germany and even in Ireland for many different positions. I'd like to say that ZOS is not experiencing any financial issues, but you or I really don't know if they are or aren't. Considering they are a wholly owned subsidiary of Zenimax Media Inc. I am pretty sure their parent company will hold them afloat regardless as this was an arm that Zenimax created specifically for the task of MMOs.

Now, Zenimax Media owns the IP "The Elder Scrolls" with Bethesda as the ONLY developer for the single player games, ESO is an offshoot game for the MMO world made by Zenimax Online Studios and the failure or success of ESO will have no bearing on the next single player title. Bethesda is currently working on an unknown title, speculation is on either the next Fallout title, or Elder Scrolls VI. Considering the release cycle of single player Bethesda made ES games, we have nothing to worry about with another ES title coming out by 2016 or so. If you want to get deeper into the Zenimax/Bethesda world, know that Bethesda actually created Zenimax Media and not the other way around. So, the child company created the parent, nice.

    Some other fun facts:

Most retailers in North America still have ESO at the MSRP, occasionally you can find it on sale. Now by no means a indicative of the whole world but, I was out running errands today and passed 6 different stores that sell games, as normal I check in on them to see what was on sale, what I wanted and how much I could spend before my wife wanted to kill me. ESO was full retail at ALL 6 STORES and one was actually sold out.

ZOS started development on Elder Scrolls Online BEFORE the release of Skyrim; so this wasn't a money grab based off of Skyrim's success.

Matt Firor is head of ZOS, one of the men behind games like DAoC with over 11 (in 2007 when he was hired by Zenimax) years in the MMO/RPG world; so ZOS doesn't need someone that KNOWS what they're doing calling the shots, pretty sure Matt has more knowledge of what an MMO is than any of us. He just didn't want to make a WoW clone.. thank god.

Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim were plagued with bugs on release and for months after (actually they all still have a *** ton of bugs); give it time, this is how Elder Scrolls games roll.

Not only is Zenimax Online still hiring, but the parent company Zenimax Media is as well as, id, Bethesda and Arkane Studios (all part of Zenimax); doesn't show a failing company now does it?

Regardless of what people here want you to think Zenimax DOESN'T have any public shares. Though it does provide protection for investors by assigning a stake in the company (which is essentially giving shares but without paying out more than is contracted) some that have invested in the company are: Cal Ripken, Jr, Harry E. Sloan, and Jerry Bruckheimer. These people (and other companies) do hold or have held stake in the company until their returns have been met, other than that Zenimax doesn't have any other fiduciary responsibility to them aside from the investments they have made. Majority shareholders in the company (as they are) are all internal, read: people that want the company to succeed and aren't just looking to turn a quick buck. Currently the largest outside stake in the company goes to Providence Equity Partners at 25%, these guys aren't about quick money, they play the long game. So, no matter how much the nay sayers and doom sayers on this forum want you to believe that ZOS has unrelenting pressure to go F2P from hordes of shareholders wanting an instant return on their shares, it just isn't true. Nor are claims that the company is in financial distress and is floundering, in 2009, Zenimax Media was worth over 1.2 Billion (and that is the last listing I could find since they aren't publicly traded they don't need to make their profits public knowledge), so there is really no worries about them going and selling a majority stake in the company for a few extra bucks and having to cave to external pressure.

Anyways, I am rambling now. Before you haters start screaming fanboy, I am very well aware of the issues ESO is facing, I file reports and have had phone calls multiple times and been ready to pull my hair out. I've quit out of the game pissed off that some stupid issue has caused me to rollback or lose armour integrity. I've become fairly frustrated with many aspects of the game but so far have overcome (even able to play my sword and board Templar in vet 6 and be able to take down 3 trash mobs at a time, as long as there isn't a healer with them) hint: Lots of dodging and rotating of targets, stun-beat up one guy- knock back-beat up next guy-stun- beat up third and repeat. Has Matt maybe made a few bad calls in relation to game design, yes, yes he has.. but you cannot create something and try to make it different without trying a few new things. Why don't you see me posting more here about my issues with the game? I don't cry about every little glitch and problem in the forums and I do not blow small things way out of proportion, ie: They laid of temp workers OMG THEY ARE GOING UNDER, GAME WILL BE F2P IN A WEEK!!!!!!1111one!!!!11. I've purchased 3 more months worth of time to see how this all turns out. If they haven't got the majority of things fixed by then I will move on to another game, I have played MMOs since the dawn of MMOs and NEVER has any one of them been great in the first 4 months.

Oh, and no it doesn't need an Action House or to be made easier. L2P :p

TL;DR: Zenimax Online is actually hiring right now, ESO has no bearing on the next SP ES games, ESO is still around MSRP most places and Zenimax Media Inc is a good parent to have because: things.

    Edit: Fixed Matt's timeline
