Magicka Regen

My DK build as a fire mage is using the skill that when you toggle it on does X damage every 1 second until you toggle it off or run out of magicka. Currently my DK is using this spell/skill what ever you wish to call it, and its still low level so I think that its doing 24 damage per second costing 22 magicka per second. My magicka regen is currently around 70, which according to the description, "regenerate 70 Magicka every 2 seconds while in combat".

Standing in town, with no other magicka abilities active, and not performing any action that would use Magicka, I toggle the skill on, and watch my Magicka decrease at over 150 every second.

I am no math wiz, but if I am supposed to be regenerating more magicka than the skill is costing me, shouldn't my magicka go down as the spell toggles and then go right back up to full? as my regen is higher than the cost of the skill.

Perhaps I am missing something really obvious, and If I am, I would appreciate it if someone could explain it to me using small words, as my daily meds don't leave a lot of room for clear thinking.

    What does your character screen say your magicka regen is while using the skill?

    I only ask because I've noticed that while sprinting, stamina regen gets cut down a lot. Perhaps it's the same with magicka, when you're using it, the regen gets debuffed?

    Just a thought.

    will have to check the game later on, but even if the regen doesn't work while the skill is toggled on, it doesn't explain the loss of Magicka of over 150 a tick everytime the spell triggers.

    Inferno costs 50 magicka per second, not 22. But that still doesn't explain losing 150 per second.

    I am flaber gasted. More broken skills and tool tils! Say it aint so!. Yet they are nerfing every skill in game that actually does work

    Can't explain the decrease but with the regeneration you say that it says regeneration while you are in combat so why would it be working while your in town not fighting anything?

    Ok, when i posted that I didnt take into accout, magicka reduction abilities/items that would lower the cost and or raise the damage of the spell.

    Currently my inferno spell is rank IV before being morphed, and with the gear and skills that I have the spell says that it does "37 damage every 1 seconds, costing 23 magicka every 1 second.

    I did look at my magicka regen rate when I toggled the spell on, and was surprised to find that it dropped to 0. I guess the "in combat" part of the magicka regen doesn't mean while you are casting spells, and since Inferno is a non-stop spell, mana regen doesn't apply.

    I think the in combat stuff has to do with your proximity to an enemy. If you open a menu/map it will have a red outline around the screen while in combat.

    @Badmojo Yes that is my understanding you need to be near a red dot enemy (your skill bar should pop up) to be "in combat" and that is when those types of regeneration passives activate.

    Maybe try in those circumstances and let us know
