NB Siphoning Strike Need = Why?

Why do we need to keep this ability pretty much toggled all the time?

Well, its because class design has us using a staff and light armor and weaving/animation canceling light attack+Health Funnel or light attack+cripple....

This may not be the intended design though....

    Likely animation canceling will be nerfed anyway so problem solved. Zos seems to be adding a gcd effectively for many powers each patch.

    It's not. It's the inevitable result of too much power and synergy between light armor and class skills/staff weapon skills. One group of devi had far more right than the other groips, rendering the game cookie-cutter

    It's the only way to remain competitive as a NB, and the resource management skills of other classes are ALL > siphon strikes because they reduce the total pool NOT the total damage (and FYI it's mostly 10% and that more or less is ONE cast of one ability)

    It may not have been in the initial plan for everyone to use animation canceling but at this point to get rid of it would take reworking the entire game. DPS would drop by about 40% for average people and bosses with DPS checks would just not be beaten. I think this is one of those things they may not have intended but is going to stay because they can't just nerf every class in the game all at once and it would be to much work to redisgn every dungeon and trial.

    Ah but with ZOS's track record, this is exactly what is going to happen because it's exactly what they shouldnt do.

    Because you want to be sustained DPS?

    I think the ability is designed to be a toggle switch between burst DPS and sustained DPS, nothing more. I really don't see what animation canceling has to do with anything.

    Animation cancelling will/can never be nerfed. Much like strafe jumping it is by design and has existed in every game in one form or another.

    This is simply an issue of mana skills being currently more effective then Stamina skills. They are currently balancing the classes to be more on one line.
    Afterwards they look at PvE and Mana/Stam balance. Once that is done the armor imblances will have vanished.

    Don't forget that Siphoning strikes is equally usefull for Stam as for Mana builds. It's just that Stam builds currently aren't that good.

    Yes and yes.
    We do not have any Green dragon blood,inhale,Battle Roar or any of the passives and procs the sorcs have to regain magicka. At VR10 it is really hard to burst a group of 3 even with light armor,capped magicka and magicka regen and some reduced cost. It can be done but it is a gamble . Siphoning Attacks is what lets you do constant damage. In the end your average dps Is higher since waiting 6 sec to gain 240-300 magicka is a much larger dps hit than 20% reduction on each hit. If you are crit build that 20% becomes even less of a problem.

    Also it is certainly not only a matter of magicka. The stamina that i get back Is also critical since no stamina = Dead NB since you can't block or dodge or get out of CC. Especially for a magicka based NB with 0 Stamina points or enchants.

    This is a really good video of a restoration offensive NB in PvP, notice how the entire fight Siphoning Strike is activated and he runs out of mana...Guys if its mandatory make it passive??
