Vampirism and Werewolf bicurious

I am to the point where I am offered the choice of the two. I have just avoided the whole thing as I knew the vamp was glitched (in players favor) knew it was going to be nerfed and have no idea of werewolves tho they look pretty cool .

so, my question is.. as they stand now in the game, is it worth it for a player to have either trait for mainly solo pve? will either help me in VR levels? If you have had either trait but cured it .. why? do you use the traits mainly for role playing? if so.. how does that work as far as feeding or skills?

Vampirism is a mixed hodge-podge. you can sneak stupidly fast, stay alive in combat against multiple enemies by draining (aka blood-letting) them one by one as needed, but the real kick in the pills is if you forget to feed and your vampirism goes into stage 3 or 4, and you suddenly find yourself getting one shotted by a trashmob with a firestaff, and you heal regen goes into the crapper.

Vampirism has its uses with the right race/role.

A trash mob with a fire staff is going to be your bane regardless of your vampire level. While some argue that the reduced health regen doesn't really matter, it does for downtime in between packs of mobs. So while you have that downside, you can sort of compensate for it. Either way, the ultimate reduction is the real joy of it even though it's still bugged. The increase sneaking and damage mitigation (outside of fire damage) is great as well.

Werewolf won't benefit you in any way until they reduce the transformation cost and give your character out of transformation passives. It's such a waste right now.

thanks for the good advice, I'll prob get both in order to just see what they are like for the giggles, but that leaves the last question... how hard is it to cure? is it just a trip to an altar somewhere or requires many steps?

As a vampire I hate those fire mages :s and the oil drops *cringe* , but I like vampires. (when they don't "shine bright like a diamond" ) I have read that Werewolves have some bugs. Not sure how it is supposed to be played. Maybe someone does it well, but all I get to read are the same complainers talking that talk about nerfing crazy things like fire rune. I do plan on making a werewolf.

Werewolves are supposed to be played in a frenzy, you kill, devour, and move on quickly, otherwise you revert back to human. At least that was how they played in Skyrim.

Vampire stages dont change anything to the fire damage taken. I'm Always at stage 4. However I never PVE and use vamp for sneak speed only.

My main is a Vampire, and I found it to be a huge help. The Drain skill is amazing. I was pretty much Level 4 the entire time from 43ish to VR12 and it wasn't really an issue (except for the fire). I always tried to have the best fire resist glyph on a piece of jewelry, but even then, fire hot, fire very hot. Bat swarm is huge for aoe farming.

I don't seem to need it much more at VR12. The sneak speed is great, but at VR12 it's mostly group content, so sneaking isn't really needed. I am seriously considering curing, but at the moment I am messing around with an alt and focusing on leveling up my crafting so will probably hold off.

I rarely (and I mean probably never) saw a werewolf in Veteran content. I just don't think, with the current state of werewolves, that it's worth it.

My advice is to go Vampire first. You can always cure and go the other route.

Dang, vampirism seems like its suited for stealth.

I really hoped WW would be good, but don't you think the devs should have red flagged this before launch - "wait vamp is like 100x better than ww we have to do something about this" :/

Vampire gets good Ultimate, a powerful healing drain and a good damage migitation move as well as always active passives.. but very easily finds itself on deaths row due to the number of fire moves in PVE and PVP. (reports of one trails boss always one shotting Vamp players have popped up)

WW gets nothing really outside of the transformation, while in WW form you have really good Damage dealing abilitys but no versitility and often the transform is a death sentence vs larger groups. is has some usefulness in its VERY high damage potential tho, breaking 1k on single enemys. however good builds can also manage this level of DPS without the drawbacks. the poison weakness is not really noticeable in PVE, the few mobs that use it do so in a easily avoided way. PVP however any bow user will likley be spamming Poison at you.

right now, Both are pointless unless you can learn to avoid their weaknesses... with Werewolf being significantly weaker of the 2 simply because it adds nothing beyond a Ultimate that doesn't actually improve your combat potential overall, just alters it.

Werewolves are supposed to be played in a frenzy, you kill, devour, and move on quickly, otherwise you revert back to human. At least that was how they played in Skyrim.
And how they actually play in ESO is that you transform in a frenzy and then you die. If you're lucky you might have time to revert back to human before you die, so that you can actually kill the enemies.

There is one reason and one reason alone to choose to be a werewolf - and no, its not roleplaying because it cant be used as such - and that is if your class has so terribly *** ultimates that you have 1 space left for the werewolf. And I mean such *** ultimates that given the choice between taking your class ultimate or having nothing on the bar, you rather take nothing. Then and only then can you have the werewolf ultimate on your skill bar and get the ultimate generation bonus (a couple points every 3 secs in combat or whatever it is).

I use two poison daggers on my NB Vampire and most werewolves die with 1-2 hits from stealth attacks. This is in PvE.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

I have a Dunmer Templar vampire and with the fire resist racial maxed out I don't notice that I take much more fire damage than any other type of magic. Since I wear light armour it is always a toss up for me whether I take out the archers or the fire mages first, anyways.

But vampires have some nice passives and the sneak speed is fantastic. Unfortunately there are a couple passives that are still bugged (like the increase health regeneration one...I was 11 before I specced the point and 11 after), but what class doesn't have bugs?

You get a strong self-heal/ultimate builder with the life-tap and a fantastic oh crap button for PvE with the vampire bat swarm. Overall I like it, but if you don't put a fire resist glyph on a piece of jewelry or have the dark elf passive it can hurt.

WW has excellent damage potential, but can only be used against 1 or 2 man mobs. 3 is pushing it.

Its pretty stupid that Werewolves have a weakness to poison to begin with. There's no balance to it. Werewolf has NO advantage even in wolf form, in human form its all disadvantage. That ultimate boosting thing really isn't that great. From a lore perspective its stupid that poisons hurt them more, as I can distinctly recall destroying Falmer villages with ease on my werewolf in skyrim. If their poison didn't do it, nothing should. In terms of power, Vampire is the clear winner. In terms of fun, werewolf could do well, but the duration of the change is way too short, the form itself is rather glitchy, and the Devour trait does not always properly work. Additionally targeting things for Devour can bea serious pain in the butt. All in all, Werewolf needs a lot of fun. It has potential, but right now that's about all it has (and that's purely in the fun department. I dont' think Werewolf will ever be competitive with playing a normal character).

I, too, am a vampire ... and fire damage burns, baby, burns! That said, and others have said, fire damage can be somewhat mitigated with a properly enchanted piece of jewelry.

When it comes to trash mobs that contain fire mages and/or archers, crowd control is an absolute must. My usual technique is to rune cage the fire mage, mist form over to an archer, nail 'em with a magic/physical attack once or twice, then drain 'em dry, refilling my health at the same time.

Rune cage is usually still in effect at this point (and if not, its stun effect is), so I usually finish off the other mob member, then turn my attention to the rune-caged mobster. Nail him/her once with crystal shards, then kill him/her with vampiric drain.

So, all in all, I'd recommend choosing to be transformed into a vampire, should the choice ever be presented to you.

P.S. And one of the best parts of being a vampire? The once-a-week ability to transform other players into new night sisters/brothers!

Haven't used them myself. Overall tone I heard:
Vampirism is quite usefull and can be unbalanced powerfull lategame/PvP, but there is the whole weakness to fire/Fighter Guild Skills wich can be quite severe.
It heavily depends on the Vampirism Stage you are in.

WW - they are overall to weak for something that takes a Ultimate slot, but in turn thier vulnerability is a lot less "common" and thus less of an issue in PvE/PvP.

In any case you can get yourself cured if it does not work out for you.
There are even people offering bites for free by now (3rd month of the game has begun).

Something on Elemental Resistances and Vulnerabilities:
Fire/Poison resist get's added to Armor/Spell resist for appropirate attacks. The summed value is still subject to soft (33%) and hardcap(50% mitigation).
Vulnerability doubles damage before defenses. So even at top enchanment you still end up being just as vulnerable as a unportected normal.

hmm, all food for thought. I'll probably go WW first as everyone says it doesnt work well, so will be cured first. just curious what its all about. shame its not working... to me would be great fun to go rampaging about.

after that will try vampire and see how that affects my survivability. I may be one of the few that dont really like the idea of being a vampire.. being undead and all that but heh, but it will be fun to have some new skills and animations to play with. good tips with the fire resist enchantments

one more qstn, to cure you just have to go and talk to an npc? no quest or some such? does it cost gold?

Passive "Undeat" armor not working, if i relog/log off or change map by teleport/shrine Vampire stage 2-4 stop give discount to vampire ability mana/ulti. And last thing vampire Poison mist dont tick as intended he tick only three times not eight times. I miss 5 tick of damage from this spell.
  • ccole.nhub17_ESO
Werewolf has almost no disadvantages, as no one really uses poison, but also has almost no advantages. Werewolf is only useful for one thing, Bloodrage. It allows you to gain 5 ultimate every 3 seconds while taking damage in human form, other than that its pretty useless. Vampirism on the other hand has quite a few combat advantages, such as a health and stamina drain and an ultimate that restores health. However the constant need to feed in order to avoid the reduced health regeneration and the reduced fire resistance is a pain. As it stands right now, the only reason to go werewolf is for the ultimate gain passive.
