If i were you i'd go with the "girlfriend" option.
Trust me, much more fun than the "rage quit" option ...
;-)

Your premise is flawed. Even if you ignore the likelihood of another catastrophe befalling us you haven't accounted for the possibility of interstellar travel. ESO could be played until the end of the universe and scientists don't know if it even will end. Theoretically, your ancestors could play ESO for eternity.

So much philosophy in this thread.

Yes and thank you for contributing so much more philosophy to it.
Alot of the die hard fans of the game have stopped playing also OP. The game is crashing harder than Defiance did, actually I can find more people playing the game Defiance now than ESO.
Eventually, I will quit ESO. I will not play this game forever. I will either get tired of it, get too busy, find a girlfriend, or quit out of frustration. I really hope it is not the latter. I like this game, but I there is a limit to the amount of frustration I can endure.
Consider a recent experience. I was on the quest “Vision Quest.” At one point, while in prison, you must knock on a gate to advance to the next quest objective. I did this several times and nothing happened. I wandered around the room for a bit and finally decided to look on YouTube to see what was going wrong. In the video, after the knock, an imp approached the gate and talked.
I didn’t see an imp. I didn’t see anything. I tried to abandon the quest and try again, but the result was the same. I have tried every day since for five days with no progress. I suppose that one quest is no biggie, but something like this has happened in each of the last three zones I have been in!
Two months in I am still experiencing the same gameplay glitches: server lag, bosses hit into walls from whence they never return, abilities freezing in mid swing. Just last night, when I was fighting a mini-boss, ‘Uppercut’ glitched. Half the time it failed to knock the boss down. I got facerolled five times before I gave up.
So, when is enough, enough? I got excited last week when I things like ‘continuous improvement’ and ‘balance’ in ‘The Road Ahead.’ Are these really your ideals or are they just platitudes you foist on us while you use our subscription fees to prepare for console release?
I don’t think that ZOS is trying to scam their players, if only because they know that it is not good business. I’m still not ready to quit yet. I enjoy this game. I love the design, the combat system, the economy, and so much more. I know the bugs will not last forever. … They won’t last forever, right?
This is a decent person..... putting there best foot forward to enjoy the game even with its issues.
I feel ya bro, frustrating....and the last part,
They cant last for ever........... right? Lol

But tomorrow's looking pretty good.

@Phazzle
Totally understandable. Take a break from it if it gets to be too much but check back in a few months (or whatever). The game still has a ton of potential.
There are definitely times (the low moments) where I wish I would have just waited to play ESO. After many of the issues have been fixed. There's no doubt the experience would be different.
