I think people are missing one of the best parts about ESO...

It seems like people are trying to play ESO like any other game and not like and elder scrolls game. People are rushing up to 50+ getting annoyed when you cant skip the dialogue. I have recently started playing the game like an elderscrolls game, running all quests, reading every line of every dialogue and I have to tell you, the quests are amazing, story lines are great and a lot of the choices are hard to make.

I am an MMO vet with over 6 years spent on my previous MMO (DDO) and so far this is the first one I have actually been interested in the lore.

I dont know if Im right but some people seen to be having more and more fun with it now.

Thoughts?

I played for 2 months, exactly as you are describing (taking it slow), but for the love of Talos, Don't level VR by doing the other 2 factions quests.... find another way, or level alts to 50 in the other 2 factions first.

Completely agree. I would say the vast majority of people complaining about the game are playing it like the first person to max level wins the grand prize.

Play it like an actual RP game and the game is pretty amazing. For the crowds that want to get into a grind group and run around the same 'camp' circuit for hours on end... yes I imagine its pretty lackluster.

Yes, play each faction with a different character. There is no prize for 'max level'.

To each their own I suppose. I rushed to 50 and did the "objective" quests vr1-10, simply because it was the most time efficient.

While i do agree that the quests are for the most part great, I'm mainly in it for Cyrodiil and i'm having a lot of fun in the small amount of time i've got available.

I think people are approaching ESO the wrong way...

If you have to play a MMO just one way, the game is in big trouble.

When posters keep posting that "You are playing the wrong way", the game is in big trouble.

When players are constantly saying the game is tedious and the repeated quests are killing their fun, the game is in trouble.
It seems like people are trying to play ESO like any other game and not like and elder scrolls game.

I would LOVE to play this like an Elder Scrolls game.
    • Sadly there is no underwater swimming,
    • no dueling,
    • no housing,
    • no crime systems,
    • no open world to explore,
    • no thieves/assassins guild,
    • no storage space,
    • no way to reverse do a quest, where you do the quest and just find your reward later on,
    • no way to move objects around in the world,
    • no way to swim on the ocean without being instantly killed by slaughterfish.
    • No real explanations of your characters powers
    • No massive dungeons to explore

So, please don't tell me to play this like a TES game. It is just not possible.

If anything the other way around, to many are trying to play this as a TES game, and not as an MMO. There are far too many who complain they haven't got the freedom they had in Skyrim/Morrowin/Oblivion, or complain about having to choose a class. You have to view this as an MMO first and a TES game second.

I view it as we have a lot of different players coming together for ESO. You have people who just like RPGs. You have people who just like MMORPGs. You have people who love The Elder Scrolls.

I started at launch, and I'm only level 46. I only play one character. I see no rush, in fact, I don't even want to get to VR because of all the headaches I keep reading. But I came because I've been playing TES titles since Daggerfall. I came because I hoped to RP the lore. And I really wanted to become a merchant type character, which isn't quite feasible at this time.

I agree, once I started playing it like a single player game I had a lot more fun. The game is totally set up that way. With things like not being able to tell players and NPCs apart. And having no real player commerce. It's also why I unsubbed I can play Skyrim and not need to pay every month.

    • However, there is no AH
    • No GUI options

    • Crappy grouping tool
    • Phasing makes grouping almost impossible.
    • No end game.
    • No real raid dungeons.
    • No user friendly tools
    • It's buggy as hell
    • Vet levels suck

ESO has failed to be an MMO and failed to be a TES game.

Sadly it could have been both with the right options and with solid in game systems.

It's very well written stories. Well done. But some people wants other things from any game. Me, I'm in it only for the pvp.
Add PvP loot drops for some risk/reward in this game.

Every MMO has a niche, players who like the focus of the game are going play the it.
I believe ESO is focusing on lore, PVE and the ease of solo play.

    1) ESO is not a game for players who like gear grinds. ESO focuses more on learning how to play your character, if you play the character well you will succeed regardless of what you are wearing. (I know the classes still need a lot of tweaking)

    2) ESO is not a game for power levelers. There is no reason to be V12 except for pvp.

This one if more of my personal opinion but I believe its accurate:
    3) ESO is not a game for PVP lovers. PVP feels like an after thought, it seems like the only reason they put it in is because they basically had to, no MMO will succeed without some type of PVP.
Cyrodiil is beautiful and its fun to blow up a wall and rush through it with guns blazing. But its only fun the first 5 times. After that you're left standing around wishing there was some type of strategy to it all.

Lore is not going to keep this game afloat. They can try jamming all the lore they want down people's throat it is still not going to keep people interested in the game if game mechanics are broken, uninteresting or not engaging enough.

The only one that isn't either in the game or going to be is the AH and I like it not being there. Means unlike most MMO you cant get a lucky drop, sell it and fully set out your character, you have to craft plan and farm.

Once again all announced...... best part about oblivion was shivering isles, lets hope that at least half of the content updates for eso are as fun and different as shivering isles. This is also just nitpicking things that even though they are in an elder scrolls game they dont make it an elder scrolls game, they are just features.

When I first started, I tried playing this exactly like an Elder Scrolls game. I said "*** the main quest", and ran off in a random direction from the starting point, only to see I was trapped on an island with a linear questline forced on me to get out into the world. Ok, held back judgment because some folks need a second newbie tutorial after the first tutorial. Finished the questline, got off the island, and threw a quick /feedback about Bleakrock being a terrible place, and got to the third forced tutorial area... sent in another /feedback, finished that questline, and finally got to Stonefalls where I could ignore the main questline (except for the Prophet jumping me to tell me I had to go see him), ran off down the road away from town, and promptly encountered all kinds of big bad beasties I had zero chance of killing because of how damage/mitigation scaled based on level difference.

Now, I have been through Morrowind, and could deal with that kind of issue, but it felt less like "Oh this is a cool new area" and more like "well we couldn't put invisible walls everywhere, so instead lets just toss in pissed off things that will 1-2shot anyone who isn't level appropriate for the area to discourage exploration".

Ahh well, back to the standard themepark MMO grind I went, since that was the direction they were forcing me to go, despite their "just pick a direction and run" loading screen tip.

Gui is completelly open source and customizable, banking is on their this year list and guild update is probably going to be the patch after next. All in the road ahead.

Even after you edited, all of them are in the road ahead, I currently have hero of dominion and pact achievements and havent encountered a bugged quest and even still they continue to fix them, they have said they are adding flare and more options to all vet level content such as scaling previous dungeons and the like, they also said they are overhauling current dungeons one by one particularly group dungeons. You should start reading dev posts on this stuff, they have some awesome plans.
