How much difference in playing 1st vs. 3rd person?

Question with a not so hidden agenda...

I have made it to my VR9 area with a DW NB but have found a handful of solo bosses nigh on impossible and the mob fights increasingly tough - I have b*tched about it here in threads here but here's a question with an honest intent of improving my playing style if it really is me that is at fault.

Do those who find late VR content easy or at least comfortably challenging, esp with melee NB, generally play 1st or 3rd person?

I used to play 3rd person back in Oblivion days but Skyrim always seemed to want you to be in first person for best results... in this I have tried both and find that I can do ranged in 3rd but just cannot accurately target with melee in 3rd person. Am I making life harder for myself by playing in 1st person, should I be rolling an alt and training myself to play in 3rd person?

    3rd person, massively better.

no need for an alt though, its easy to get hold of it.

I much prefer the immersion of 1st person, but I just don't find it viable in VR. You need every advantage you can get and I find I just have better spacial awareness with third person, for keeping out of aoe zones and not getting stuck on objects behind you if you're kiting.

I would think you could just practice for awhile on your main - maybe go to a lower level mob area if that makes you feel more comfortable. If you look in Settings, there is a hotkey which you could rememorize to have it at a more convenient spot on your keyboard for the quick switch back and forth from 3rd to 1st. In addition of course there is the ability to use your middle mouse scrolling wheel to have more precise control over how far in/out in 3rd you prefer to be.

There is no 'reticle' type of aiming in this game...there is a target frame, but that is not like a real reticle/reticule at all and it doesn't matter whether you are in first or third person as far as any relation to how 'accurate' your hitting of your targeting key is. It is a function of the programmed code which initiates the targeting, not the skill of the player as to how good they are in doing so.
Good luck changing up your playing style in this mechanic and I hope it feels more comfortable after a little practice. No reason why you can't utilize both vision points of view!

I like the immersion of 1st person so I upgraded to 3X32" TVs with nvidia surround at 3840X720. Seeing stuff out of the corner of your eye is awesome.

It is all about how much you can view.

In third person you can watch a lot more what is around you and thus fight taking that into account.

In first person you can only view a fraction of all that and thus you are limited.

I would say it makes a huge dif and that it is indeed much easier to play on 3 person , even more in ESO.

Single player TES games dont have so many enemies at once all the time, like ESO does , a rogue can go really slowly taking one at a time in most situations in a TES single player game , while in ESO , it is normal to have 2/3 packs around every corner.

Nerf 3rd person!!! Makes the game too easy!!!

I prefer 1st person, but range of view in 3rd gives you an advantage during combat.

yeah, you really don't want to fight one group, and somehow move into another group of mobs...lol

First person all the way. I have done some Dolmans in 3rd but I don't need it. I know what's going on. I'm not the guy pulling stuff they do not even see. I get killed often when I group and seldom by my self. I spend most of my time squashing stuff the group does not see and really most people are crazy.

My son is running a VR1 NB in first person and we do 4 mans together with my level 26 vampire witch. I am leveling 4 fighters and 3 crafters, and have a blast. Did that one behind Eldon Root the other day. Hilarious fun and all FPS baby.

Watched a low level char, about 8 or so, with my Argonian cook. He has to go level once in a while and find shards to finish out his level 50 cook. He is 11 now and the dungeon was about there too. This girl just charges the 3 mob group that I am a bit careful with, not really a problem, and dies. I wander around, kill the boss and there she is again just out with the big sword and charge. I saved her that time, but really.

I really wish they had a separate RP server to segregate the RPers and the non RPers.
