Armor customization?

Spectre45
Spectre45
Greetings everyone! I just bought the game, even though I participated in Beta. I have a quick question to ask regarding armor customization, is there any?

In SWTOR, they have their mod system, allowing you to place different level mods into modifiable armor, giving you the stats you need, and the looks you want. In WoW there is the Transmog system, and in DCUO/Wildstar, there is the costume system.

I'm just wondering because during beta there was some gear that I really liked the looks of but didn't have very good stats. I can't check in game right now as I'm waiting for an issue with a code to be taken care of. Thanks for any answers!

No there isn't, unfortunately. Hopefully with time there will be something that's put in place.
There are various threads about it though across the forums, one of which is here
If you can be anything, be kind.

They plan on adding a dye system soon and they do have a slot for disguises which allows you to have a costume of sorts whilst retaining the stats of your gear. So there is a very basic system currently in place which may be expanded on in the future, hopefully.

They will expand the costume / armor looks system. Customers of mmos eat that up.

Everyone wants to customize there toon

Alright, thanks. The forum layout here is a little... Odd, for me. Hopefully they will add something later. I'm really liking the race styles you can do when crafting gear, that's pretty cool.

    Yes you can customise!

You can add one of 8 traits to crafted items (assuming you have researched the trait) and also add an enchant. You can also improve items, crafted or drops, to boost the trait/enchant/armour rating/weapon power that already exists on the item.

Along with the race styles that you have already mentioned, this makes ESO gear one of the most customisable I have come across, certainly when it comes to crafting your own items. I can't believe people are replying to the contrary.

The question was about a transmog/vanity tab type system. There is currently no such thing in game apart from the costume slot which is VERY limited in functionality as you cant customize it in any way. Lets say you wear 3 different dropped sets which support your build. Each one is from a different racial motif and you look like a clown. ATM theres nothing you can do about it apart from wearing one of the few disguises available in game. If you dont like them or if you want a specific look for your char, youre *** out of luck. Lets hope that one day soon ZOS allows costumes to be crafted by players from available gear. Customization and a time/money sink all in one - win/win for both players and devs.

The OP made direct reference to SWTOR modding, which add stats to items, they do not change the way they look. To choose a look you want in SWTOR is usually done by buying a cosmetic item from the Cartel Shop nowadays - would we really want that here?

My point stands, the OP can find a look he likes and add the trait/enchant of his choice. You can even change the enchant of much of the world drops - very few are locked. That works well if you can live with the trait and really desire the look. Or settle for the enchant/trait and adjust your other items appropriately. We have so much choice.

Seeing how the OP mentioned the SWTOR system in the context of getting 'the stats you need, and the looks you want' as well as 2 purely cosmetic customization systems from other games Im pretty sure he was interested in... well, getting the looks he wants.

And your point stands as long as you stay with crafted gear. You cant change the looks of non-crafted set items and lets be honest - some of the best set bonuses in game are on those.

Yeah, thanks again. I was in fact looking for some kind of vanity system. Hopefully they will add something like thus down the road. To be fair though, SWTOR didn't add their system in until a few updates after launch.
