Breaking down crafted gear - Needs to give more upgrade material back to the player

This baffles me. You spend countless gold on gear to make it legendary. The level cap raises only a couple of weeks after, and you need new gear. You go to break down your legendary item, and you either get 0 or 1 wax back from the process. More times than not, I get nothing back. Why is it that I need to spend 24,000+ dollars for 1 item (just counting the legendary wax), only to break it down and get nothing back? Moving it to legendary isn't even that big of a jump!

Proposal:

1. Breaking down any piece of gear epic or legendary will result in either 50% or 75% of crafting material return.
2. Ability to upgrade your current gear to a higher tier, if it is based on the same material. EX - Void cloth VR 10, could be moved to VR12 without having to recreate the entire set.

Imagine if there were no farming bots in this game, keeping the cost of upgrade materials down? The prices have already started to rise (probably due to less bots) and will soon be out of range for most players in a few months time. I get the idea of wanting to make legendary difficult to attain... This is a little much though.

Actually the price of legendary mats has dropped from the beginning. As for the mats, if the epics returned more than one then the price for epic upgrade mats would completely tank, even more so than it has with all the farming going on in Craglorn.

One does get little return for decon'ing one's own gear -- must used drops or another player for max results.

Not a chance. Farm bots are keeping the prices low. You see people selling 300+ waxes all the time. That doesn't come from running through craglorn.

Where/how do you farm "300+ waxes"? Sounds more like dups than farming.

That's not what I said, only the epic mats are farmed in Craglorn. The waxes and other legendary mats are from refining raw materials. It is 3% per refine to get one, and that's why you see everyone and their mother buying raw materials in every single zone.

*shrug* Use your language instead? You wrote dollars a second time, btw.

Also: Introducing additional gear tiers for Veteran Ranks was a colossal mistake, I wonder how they want to wiggle out of that in the long run. Not sure returning more materials from deconstructing player made gear is the right way, however. I would be in favor of having the ability to upgrade items to a higher level, but then they would have to rebalance a few of the low level dropped set items (otherwise everyone would be running around with a max. level Magicka Furnace set).

I see it all the time. Someone will shout that they have 300+ of each material, quoting a price per mat. Easily done with massive amounts of farm bots.

Please, put skill points in the crafting for getting more/better mats for refining materials and stop making suggestion as crazy as that '50-75%'...

How do you spend 24k for a single piece anyways? have you not put any skill points in being able to improve with less improvement mats either?? Or then you have let yourself be scammed for buying them off super expensive.

Do you play this game? Honest question. I have clothing fully maxed to 50, and have each skill unlocked. The best I can do is 8 waxes to upgrade a piece to legendary. Given the current market value of 3k per wax, the math is very basic. This is NOT including the cost of the purple, and blue mats. So its actually closer to 28k+. 3000 gold x 8 waxes = ?????? Then add in the current cost for purple...

Welcome to MMO's and the constant gear hunt. It would be too easy if you got back most of the materials needed to craft and item, not to mention it would destroy the market for crafters and people who sell upgrade materials

I'd like to see the ability to uplevel gear. I don't think the mats cost should necessarily be much cheaper than making it new, but just to bring a sense of continuity and save a trip to a set crafting station.

I was referring to items that players craft themselves and yes palyers can sell / trade those off if they want too. ZOS did that way because they want players to interactive with other players and not to reused their own crafts to try to power level their own crafting skill line.

If you upgrade your crafting skills that improve the chance of extracting clothing materials (Unraveling in clothing, for instance), you get quite a lot of materials. I deconstruct everything I get from questing pretty much - and I am never short for materials and tannins. Also - upgrade your hirlings to level 3 - I get plenty of tannins every day - more than enough to keep my own armour upgraded to purple.

If you want more materials, go farm for them. It is not hard to get enough materials to make your armour.

Crafting isn't meant to be easy. If you don't want to put the effort into farming your own mats or leveling your crafting skills, hire someone who has to craft your armour for you. If everyone with an Epic armour set could just deconstruct them for 75% of the materials, what would be the point of being a crafting primary toon. You would destroy the already weak crafting economy.

They could make it so you can only upgrade within your own tier of mats. IE gear lvl1-14, VR1-VR3, etc. that would be cool.

How do you expect there to be a crafting economy in the game if people don't have to update their gear?

    'upgrade your hirelings to 3'

You do realize that takes a very high crafting skill to buy. 2/3 = L22 (for increased quality) - 3/3 = twice per day.

Unraveling 3/3 in all crafts helps immensely. I swear I have nabbed yellow mats the odd time from green-purple gear.

Crafting and repairing are the two big gold sinks in the game, although crafting mats just shuffle the money to farmers, doesn't remove it from the economy.

    Inflation will happen.
