Please make the "best" looking dyes link to Golden Palms, Bandit's Heart, Keeper of the Flame, and M'aiq's Words of Wisdom because lol

If the dye system is tied to achievements, then what is ZOS going to do about the fact that I have lost half of my achievements with the latest patch? I you going to reinstate these or is it just a case of there being nothing they can do? I really hope this is fixed as stuff like 100% all of the AD areas is not something you can go back and do on the same character.

    Here's an idea;
Let us buy something with those awardment points we get, perhaps at 2-5 times the points value of the achieve. I'm cool with certain achieves unlocking certain things, but as it stands there are a whole lot that give nothing but these points. Points we can do nothing useful with. If we could spend those points on something, it means that folks who want a given color but have no interest doing or are unable to perform the associated task for it can still get them. In the event that a person later earns the awardment which unlocks the color, they get the points spent on the color refunded.

For example, let's say there's an awardment for killing fifty mudcrabs in Cyrodiil and awards the player with ten points and the Hot Pink dye color. In the proposed system, a person could instead choose to buy the Hot Pink color for 20-50 points. If later on the person decides to go to Cyrodiil and kill those 50 mudcrabs, they earn the awardment, the associated ten points, and free up the 20-50 points spent earlier to use on other things.

I dunno, maybe I just want to see someone finally let us do something with awardment points other than rub them in other people's faces as if they're worth something.

    I like that idea:

Perhaps our achievement points could be used to buy dyes from the dyeing station. (The station where it looks like you go to dye your armour, taking the screenshot released into account). Maybe there could even be added a dyeing merchant to the game that uses the achievement point currency whom we buy dyes from. (Basically similar to how it works in Cyrodiil with Alliance Points). Of course, some dyes could be cheaper than others.

That way players that only want a couple of specific colours could relatively easily obtain them, whilst others that want to get near to the whole palette will likely have to work on their achievements more actively.

Such a style might also be more akin to Zenimax's 'play freely how you want' motto, so-to-speak, as well.

Have them unlocked by "using" achiev points to buy specific colours. Or have them locked to a speific amount like when you reach 1000 u get purple. 2000 white 5000 black.

That way people can choose themSelf which achiev to go for to reach the amount needed to unlock the colour.

Exactly. Like a couple of us above have eluded to: Achievement Points as a form of currency.

Because not everybody is a completionist or wants to take part in every sort of content.
Especially veteran dungeons and trials aren't for everyone and to tie dyes to them would be annoying as hell.

    Briefly, from a completionist:

I've always tried to be a completionist in TES games. Morrowind was next to impossible because of all the content there was out there, but I managed it - or quite close - in both Oblivion and Skyrim.

I'm trying it with three different characters in TESO and, to be honest, it's a bit game breaking. Last night, I completed all the content in the starter zones for the EP and when I entered one of the dungeons in Stonefalls, I was level 8. A number of level 4s were standing there and they said, "What are you doing here??"

To support Kendaric's argument, if you do all the content you will quickly outpace the game. In one of the my other characters - in the DC - she is now level 15 and fighting level 8 or 9 enemies - because she still hasn't completed all the content in her zone.

A number of people have told me they're not going to do completionist games because it breaks the game and it's not fun any longer.
That's true, most of my Rift quests(last EP zone. I finished it at lvl 47>.> <.<) were grey by the time I did them, but that's another problem for another dicussion - lvl up from 1 to 50 is way too fast if you try to do everything, which makes it feel sad, unchallenging and unrewarding.

There seem to be dozens of shades on that dye screenie though, I don't think they'll make basic colours trials-tied(now that'd be VERY stupid, sure), I'm sure you could live without than one shade of blue that one trial achievement gives;)

Oh, and far as end game content...it's really not end game oriented, in my eyes. Well, maybe it is more friendly at VERY end game, vet 12 or whatever, but vet 6? Ha. Mob of 3 kill me without any difficulty half the time, I still get GREEN quest rewards and I don't even get skillpoints or anything for gaining new vet level. I'd say lvl 1-50 felt MUCH more rewarding, so enjoy it while it lasts;)

And while I'm not sure on precise logic as for why doing this one achievement can be connected to this one colour, I think it makes sense we should get SOMETHING for our achievements:) I mean, we worked(okay, played, but still) long and hard for them, an exclusive reward would surely be nice.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno‌

Out of curiosity, will we be seeing a fix for the recent loss of achievement progress for the Pact/daggerfall/aldmeri hero achievements? I believe that every single person or close to it had all of the recorded progress on those achievements wiped out once Craglorn was released. I would assume that those achievements will be tied into the dye system, and thus require a patch before dyes go live or at the same time.

We have all seen what they did with the pre-veteran gear when they changed/fixed the veteran gear. It all got bland. With that move alone they have shown they are going to focus on the more so called hardcore players. It also gave a strong indication that all the good, read most desired, dyes will only be obtained by the hardest possible content available.

I don't mind sticking dyes behind achievements as long as they don't lock them behind specific achievements. Lock the same dye behind different types of achievements so the different play styles all have the option to obtain them.

Do not make the most desired dyes only available to a tiny minority of players and leave the rest with bland colors to choose from.

Also please add the option, the chance, to unlock a color through crafting. Either as a research bonus chance or a change when deconstructing.

And most of all: if you indeed lock them behind achievements... make them account wide!

@ZOS_GinaBruno‌ As I see 2 different black dyes in that picture, and obviously the one is from trials, can I assume the other one is PvP related, since some of us have absolutely no desire to be anywhere near pve (like we have been saying since day 1)

Tying it to achievements serves one purpose: to get people to do things they wouldn't normally do just for fluff.

    Which is BS.

Totally agree. This game lacks class balance and sensible end-game content, so they are desperately trying to keep us paying the subs, hoping that we'll grind achievements for the dyes until they can fix their mess.

As a DD/Bow NB... I have to say... If true... if confirmed in any way. I'm canceling.

I've about had it with these devs. This whole PC game is obviously one giant beta test for the console version seeing as the number of bugs we've had to put up with (and don't give me that crap about WoW being buggy - this isn't 2004 anymore and other games with smaller budget have done better!)... completely overpowered class mechanics, obviously untested skill synergies, and my whole class being bugged since day one... 2 months later they actually acknowledge the problem and start to fix things. Unacceptable, and this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Yea kind of a slap in the face for NB and Templar's. I'd LOVE to complete that content if I can just get into more than 2-3 runs as a backup. Most Zone call outs for TRIALS want a DK or SORC with Barrier/Negate.

Sure hope the colors are available via multiple achievements and not just tied to one achievement each.

Guys sounds like your trying to run trials with hardcore guilds. Join a more casual one.
I for one like having both nb and Templars in my runs.
On the subject of dyes the ones that are tied to raids should also be achievable elsewhere ie questing achievements and pvp wins etc.

Well I for one am not going to roll a LA staff build just for this, as that build is VERY boring to me. I hope its linked to what ill call "general" achievements and not just achievements you get at the end of the game.

There are pvp achievements too you know...

Until they tell us more about the system there is no point in assuming anything.

i wouldn't be surprised if gold, purple, or navy blue were restricted to emperorship or high ranking PVP cheevos.

red, crimson, yellow, and light blue i suspect will come from the "x Hero" cheevos.

They should not reward you for doing anything difficult. Maybe make getting the best colors like black as easy as being able to use your WASD keys. Or getting the best gear by logging out - oh you can already do that with the crafting system.

Get black for killing 12 mudcrabs

Get red for using /dance 12 times

where is the prestige in this game? Maybe they should add carebear colors for people to use after they level up in the easy mode veteran rank stuff.

In my opinion Zenimax are doing the right thing here, of course this is only my view. I can see where the casual gamers are coming from but I don't think I've yet to play a game (especially MMO's) that you don't get higher rewards for going further in the game. I agree that dyes shouldn't be tied just to trials achievements as this would give only PvE players the benefit. But in any game I've played you always get a better reward for excelling at the game. For instance WoW you get the best gear from taking part in raiding/PvP content.
I personally would get bored if I could just go out & buy my chosen dye from a vendor, it defeats the feeling of accomplishment that is vital to MMO's.
Maybe they should create a step effect for achievements needed to acquire dyes that are suited to all player types e.g. Traders.... Sell 10,000g worth of equipment for brown dye which then leads up to a high target for some of the more desirable colours. Crafters..... Create (insert amount) by crafting & again building up to a high target & so on so forth for all aspects of the game (Crafters/Traders/PvE/PvP etc). Again I respect other peoples views this is just mine.

So people not into raiding get screwed over on dyes. Another great design decision brought to you by zenimax

Did you read what you quoted? She specifically said they will not be tied to raiding achievements, but to achievements in general.

Confirmation bias is a helluva drug.

She said not just trial achievements so some are. In the screenshot for dyes, the tooltip shows a black dye being tied to trials.

Either way, having these through achievements forces players to do content they don't necessarily want to do to get a desired dye.

I don't play that way and I have no interest in trials so no black dye for me.

So then get one of the thousands of players spamming /zone looking for work to craft the desired gear in your dye of choice. Seriously, there is more than ONE option to get what you want. So narrow minded.

How do you know that dyed gear won't be bind on pickup/creation (vs. bind on equip, as is the case with crafted sets)?
