Why is everyone running?

This has probably been asked before, but why is everyone running or riding their horses full tilt even in the towns?
Okay, I like to feel like I am "there", so I walk unless I'm running to a dolmen or running for my life, but it seems as if everyone else is trying to rush through the game. Or is it?
So many times I have been whispered by people asking how I am able to walk, or they stop and do a double take, or follow me in start and stop runs as if wondering how a real player and not an npc is able to walk.
Is it that unobvious that the controls can be set up the way you like? Just curious.

Why? Because it's faster. Pretty simple, really. I don't feel like I'm missing out on any of the game by not taking 5 times as long going between quest points.

Toggle walk/run isn't assigned by default is it? That might be one reason.

I walk sometimes, especially when following quest npcs or taking in a new area. The rest of the time... guilty. I don't have that much patience anymore - and traversing places like Daggerfall would take all of my gametime ;)

Because some people aren't lame enough to pretend they actually are the character on their screen. You picked the wrong game for larping bro.

Just for the record, in order for him to be LARPing, this would have to be real life. Hence the "Live Action" part. This would just be roleplaying... ;)

You've already been corrected on the LARPing part, so no comment, but why would this be the wrong game for roleplaying? It has a crazy number of emotes. It has a great lore to use as a basis. Considering how "immersive" the game was designed to be, that's exactly what roleplayers like.

Sure, it has some disadvantages for roleplaying -- limited ability to find other like-mind players (in this case, RPers), limited ability to identify guild members, limited grouping abilities; but considering this sort of thing that limits all sort of proper communication in this game, I would lean more toward saying this game is the wrong game for socialization. XD

As everyone else said, it's faster. I'd rather spend my game time questing or exploring or goofing off instead of walking slowly through someplace I've been thousands of time especially when I have limited amount of time to play... now, if I was actually RPing, that would be different, but if you want to get some game progress done, it makes sense to run.

Now, I usually don't ride my horse through town (or anywhere, actually), but that's not for lack of desire -- it's because the game hates me and likes to load buildings and walls around my character after I've already run through them and then I get stuck. Not cool, ESO. Not cool.

Well, of course I'm a writer, so my level of imagination is at a higher level than many. Do I live in the real world? I'd say so. Retired computer tech, married 45 years with 4 kids, 5 grandkids and 3 great grandkids.
I was only asking a simple question, not looking for a juvenile answer. I expect people to play the way they like, but I have been whispered quite a bit by people wondering how they could set it up like that.

I actually take my time on quests, read all the dialogue and explore every inch of a zone. Sometimes I like just stand around and fish. More than once, I've used a costume, toggled walk, and used emotes to pretend I'm an NPC.

And even I race through town on a speed horse at full tilt.

The thing is I don't always have a lot of time to play. I craft. And I play a character in each faction. I spend a lot of time going over the same path, wayshrine to crafting stations to bank and back again. I make the trip so many times, I just want to get through it as fast as possible. More time for questing or taking my time with other leisurely random stuff.

I'm like you and love the RPing and taking my time. I'm a vampire and when I get into a major town, I use Mist Form to move from place to place. It is faster than riding my horse, but with the advantage of justifying moving through other players, which is going to happen, and helps keep my immersion. A lot of times I just walk around town, take my horse for a ride in the country, stand around playing my lute, etc.

If you're looking for a causal RP Guild (RP optional), with mostly vampires, some werewolves, and some thralls, check us out.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

I paid for my horse and feed her everyday, so I'm gonna ride my horse any chance I get, even in town. As for sprinting on foot...it's faster. I don't want to stroll around.

I agree it looks a bit weird, and quite silly especially when you see people sprint because they need to walk six feet from mob to mob lol. But I rarely use the toggle walk/run option, and I always sprint when I'm on my horse as well

My female characters walk because like almost all other animations in this game it looks natural. My male characters however will not walk because that animation is downright terrible. Males walk like they are constipated or something, there is no smoothness or any natural feel to it. That animation annoys me so they won't walk until Zenimax fixes it, if they will ever got around to it which would surprise me since I think they will consider it a very low priority issue or may just disagree with me and love the animation themselves.

IKR, the females look hot when they walk, but the males look weird.

I'm running eventually in dungeon, cause everyone is always running.. faster faster faster... But It's rare when I run, I walk, enjoy the scenery, read books, fish everywhere, and even on my horse it's rare when I run.

I play 1 hour every two days I'm level 33 and it's fine. I enjoy the game and I'm not to speedy as everyone says the game is over at 50 the veteran level are damn no fun and too hard... eventually I'll see by myself :/

I run everywhere because the guy I level with has ADD and runs or horse-sprints EVERYWHERE. An I mean everywhere. So since I live in constant fear of getting out of phase and not being able to carry his loot for him (He's a DK), I have to whip my templar like a rented shoopuf to keep up.
