~+~ What Zenimax should have done for VR ~+~

The more time I spend reading people's problems with the game the more I realize the inevitable. Most MMO players will always have the mind set that they have to get to max level quickly so they can start enjoying the game.

Personally, I don't feel this way. I enjoy the game for what it is and I see veteran ranks as end game content. I know there is nothing waiting for me when I reach VR 12. However, I can understand why a lot of people think otherwise. They want the best gear and stats before they think they can start enjoying "end game".

What Zenimax should have done (and still can!)
Now that the explanation is done this is what I think should have been done. Veteran ranks should have been completely cosmetic. This would solve at least 50% of the complaint threads I see in forums. There would still be rewards for people that get veteran ranks like costumes and titles to show off, but they would be cosmetic.

- This would get rid of the "forced grind of quests", but the quests would still be there for people like me to enjoy.
- This would make the "end game content" start at VR 1 instead of VR 12. I don't think anyone had a problem leveling to VR 1. It wasn't too long and there was no real grind to get there.
- It would allow people to make alts in other alliances without being forced to redo the content over and over again because they wouldn't have to do all the alliance zones to get to max level on their main.
- It would help keep the lore in check. If I swore allegiance to the Daggerfall Covenent (I did) then I sure as hell shouldn't be helping another alliance. If anything I want to be a spy in their alliance and kill their leaders.

TL;DR
Make VR 1 end game and the other VR levels can just grant cosmetic rewards. This way VR 1-12 will truly be the end game content. Unfortunately, people don't understand that VR 1-12 is supposed to be the end game content because it is not the traditional MMO style.

They already do just grant cosmetic rewards, lol. No, kind of seriously. A few skill points and slightly better armor.

I also refute your "Most MMO players will always have the mind set that they have to get to max level quickly so they can start enjoying the game."
Actually from what I see over and over, that is a minority. Even in this game, only perhaps 10% or less rushed to Vet 10 (or now 12) in a matter of weeks. Many players are just now hitting vet ranks 1 to 3 after 2 months. It took me 8 full weeks to hit vet 1 (started at 5 days early access).

Although our ideas are interesting, and I think some might have been nice, it is simply too late to close that barn door now, they horse has been out too long. At one month, most players actually were NOT in vet levels yet, but at 2 months, most players have already invested in vet levels or quit (which is not rushing, BTW, to take that long to get into vet levels). If you take away what they already earned, then you will have a mighty ticked off player base.

Just because you don't get attribute points does not mean there is only a small difference between VR 1 and VR 12. You still get boosted attributes when leveling and the difference in armor/weapons is huge.

Maybe most players don't rush to end game, but most of the complaints is about rushing to end game. People are calling the other alliances a grind because they want max level and they want it now. They don't want to spend another 100 hours completing the other alliance quests because it takes too long.

I understand it is probably too late to make VR levels cosmetic, but even though I spent a lot of time raising my VR level I still feel that it should be done. I know I would lose my boosted stats, but I think it is best for the game.

What do others think Zenimax should do? Should they try to make a change now or is it too late? Do you think this would solve the issues?

I have not seen any attribute boost while levelling in VR levels, is it possible you are mistaken on this? Even if you do it would be 120 at the top end, less than 10% of total... or a light hit from a player or a harsh look from a VR mob...

Obviously you get skill points from quests & shards - but that does not make you more powerful just more varied & willing to explore a skill in the knowledge if it doesn't work out you can get another point.

Granted the difference between Ebony & Void is big but also not vast. Potions and weapons are better too - but the improvement in player gear is dwarfed by the increased difficulty of basic mobs.

In many ways they do feel cosmetic and yet the game time getting even 1 rank is equivalent of the time taken getting any 10 levels in previous content so making it have little visible reward is bad enough, making it 100% cosmetic is not going to encourage people to play.

Lore-wise VR is fine - mainly because this particular historical period is obscure in prior lore & because of this prior to choosing an arbitrary alliance based on a snippet of text you could have no loyalty from prior games. Your loyalty is built, or reduced by the characters you meet (i.e. I felt HK Emeric was not a very good king even though I picked DC as my alliance). Your loyalty is also raised or lowered as you encounter the good or bad events each alliance is involved with... if you look with open eyes they have all done terrible things in pursuit of a pointless war while the world is literally going to hell...

You do get attribute boosts when leveling a veteran rank. Check the numbers right before you get your next rank. I haven't paid close enough attention to see what the exact different is in numbers, but it is still there.

The attribute difference in getting ranks alone plus the boost in stats because of armor, weapons, potions, and food make a huge difference in PvP and PvE. Why do you think people running trials want everyone to be VR 12 or at least close to it?

Your right about the fact that making VR 100% cosmetic won't encourage gameplay of veteran zones, BUT IT WILL encourage gameplay elsewhere. It will get rid of the people complaining non-stop about the VR grind and give people A CHOICE whether they want to continue to do other alliance quests, start a new alt, or finally stand a chance in max level content.

The difference in ranks Is negligible - it's not an opinion but a factual look at the difference in stats between v6 and v12 was not huge . I don't care what the nascent elitist of ESO think I bet not many even have the soft cap info addon to see actual facts. Certainly v10-v12 is small incremental increase. The main difference is min maxing at v12 and reshuffling attributes etc.

Second thing is the people rushing are coming from other games - I did it too to 50 then stopped. They are complaining because they have been spoonfed by the likes of Blizzard , carried through basic raids ahead of a gear curve and actually thought they were elite players until they got to vet content and cried like babies that it was too hard. There is no point in rushing find a good guild and enjoy the game.

Lastly do not forget this same people who probably will go back to WoD anyway will soon complain that there is nothing to do and the game sucks.

So leave vet as it is it is fine. Stuff these people who eat the icing , leave the cake and say they are hungry
