Hopes for the Thieves Guild

Zenimax revealed they plan on releasing the Thieves Guild and Justice System in a content patch after launch. With that said, I wanted to discuss my hopes of what this content may bring to ESO…

Shadowmarks
Unlike finding the Fighters/Mages Guild, the Thieves Guild will never be shown on a map. In order to find this guild, players must follow Shadowmarks. These symbols will be carved on various buildings scattered throughout Tamriel cities. Do you see it in the picture below?

Thieves Guild - Rotate Safe House Locations
Thieves Guild Safe Houses will be rotated to keep players guessing, one week will be a trapdoor in the back of a tavern and another week will be a hidden entrance under a bridge. Rotating the hideout in a particular province will make this guild feel elusive (as thieves should be). The safe houses should also be dark and dingy as shown in the picture below.

Nocturnal & Evergloam
Nocturnal is the Daedric Prince of darkness, luck, and the night. It only fits the she plays a significant role in the Thieves Guild quest line. Furthermore, I'm hoping players can visit Evergloam, the realm of Oblivion that is ruled by Nocturnal. It is the realm of perpetual twilight.

Beggars
I hope Zenimax makes beggars also important in the quest line for the Thieves Guild. You will need to talk to various beggars scattered throughout Tamriel to get much needed information.

Trapped Treasure Chests
I'm hoping Zenimax adds trapped treasure chests to the game, such as:

Poison Chest – Opening it releases poison gas that poisons all nearby players.
Explosive Chest – It explodes upon opening, dealing fire damage to all nearby players.

These traps will be fairly rare, but will likely one-shot players if not properly disarmed. Thankfully, a new passive, "Disarm Trap" will remove said hazard.

Thieves Guild Skill Line
With the Thieves Guild, you can expect a new Skill Line with abilities:

Disarm Opponent – Chance to disarm opponent
Smoke Screen – Create smoke screen around player
Premeditation – Makes your next attack a critical attack
Lethal Concoction – Throw poison bomb at your enemies
Evasion – Significantly increases dodge rating for duration

Safe Fall (passive) – Reduces damage from falling
Bribery (passive) – Bribe city guards to ignore crimes
Pickpocket (passive) – Allows player to pickpocket NPC’s
Disarm Trap (passive) – Player can disarm trapped chests
Lockpicking (passive) – Slightly increases the lockpick timer
Haggling (passive) – Buying and selling prices are 10% better

Nightingale Cloak (ultimate) – Vanish, entering improved stealth for 10 seconds

Fame & Infamy Mechanic
I hope the developers add “Fame and Infamy” mechanic to the game. Basically, fame is a measure of how well known your heroism is amongst the general population of Tamriel. Conversely, infamy represents your notoriety for doing evil deeds. Depending how you play your character will change NPC disposition. Being able to make your character a hero or villain and having NPC's react accordingly adds so much immersion to the game.

Justice System - Illegal Activities
With the addition of the Justice System, having many illegal activities would be welcome:

Trespassing
Pickpocket
Theft
Assault
Murder

Justice System - Prisons
Players who commit illegal activities and are caught by City Guards (guards are very perceptive), have the choice to pay a fine or go to prison. Prisons are essentially public dungeons. Once the criminal is ported into prison, they will remain locked up for 5 minutes. After that time has elapsed, the door will open up, allowing the criminal to enter the prison yard and interact with other inmate players. The prison yard is large, has massive stone walls and is filled with giant rats. Kill the rats to eventually find the key to escape prison. To make things worse, criminals will receive a de-buff, which prevents them from using any skills from their Skill Bar. Once the criminal escapes prison, that de-buff will expire.

What do you hope to see with the addition of the Thieves Guild?

assault and murder are the only 2 thing that i have my thoughts of because you can slash a npc but it will never effect their health and they will not imply that because when you kill a vendor or a quest marker the other players will get trouble with their quest or cant use the vendor.
the rest is pretty good also the skills only evasion is already a medium armour skill
and maybe even an idea to add like in morrowind cursed chest not only the trapped ones

Killing NPCs should be left to the Dark Brotherhood.

Memorising shadow marks again would be a pain.

Why do you think a "Thieves Guild" should be dark and dingy? Just because you hide in the shadows for work does not mean you want to bring that home...

Well to be fair, in both Oblivion and Skyrim, the Thieves guild was poor, so they were Dark and Dinghy. Also if you are a guild of criminals you don't want to attract attention by being Blingy.

TG and DB will never happen expect the next 20 patches to be 'balancing' patches made to satisfy the kids that can't stand getting killed in PVP. Expect the next five to be magicka nerfs since we all know stamina hasn't ever been able t hit 200dps at vr14. The rest 15 will be balancing of the CS.

And when TG/DB finally arrive, expect them to be full of damage shields/heals. That seems to be the trend these days, tanky healer assassins

I have a lot of hopes for TG and DB. We'll see how many of them will be satisfied once they appear. But even if they are not as great as I'd hope, I'll still be enjoying 'em!

As for "balancing patches"... I hope they balance things so even the PvP-fanatics get killed every so often in cyrodil, despite their endless damage shields and heals... if you go for PvP, you should expect some respawning to happen, period.

I like your ideas for the Thieves Guild. But they've already said no to prisons with the Justice System...which is pure laziness if you ask me. obviously, no one did. LOL

Indeed, I for one would love a "prison" public dungeon you can break out from. Though it should be something more involved then just "kill rats until one drops a key" IMO... something not involving so much fighting (actually, in prison you should not have any of your gear in the first place, but recover it from the evidence trunk during your escape... I loved the prison scene in Dragon Age...) but more running around doing errants for prisoner NPCs to get the pieces for your escape plan and other annoying things - so people end up preferring NOT to repeat that particular quest...

Agreed. ZOS should add prisons. They could do it in phases, just like the Champion System.
