So, while raiding last night I started to think of things that might be able to be added into the game to help with prepping people for things like Trials and Veteran dungeons. I began to think of the Star-Gazers and how they might be able to be worked into this.
I came up with the idea of a practice or testing arena or dungeon.
The idea is that in order to prepare the brave adventurers of Tamriel for the horrors that lurk within Trials of Craglorn and the dungeons of Tamriel, the Star-Gazers brought together mages who specialize in summoning and illusion magic and have setup arenas in the cities of Daggerfall, Davon's Watch, and Vulkhel Guard where adventurers can practice against practice bosses summoned by the Star-Gazer summoners and illusion magic specialists.
Now to get down to the functions.
The Star Gazer arena has three doors. Each door is designed for players in certain groups. The first door is for solo players, the second door is for players in groups of 4, and the third door is for players in 12 man groups.
Inside each of the rooms there are four NPCs that are standing on slightly elevated platforms in the back of a circular room. Each NPC represents a difficulty level for the bosses that can be summoned, such as Easy, Medium, normal, and challenge.
The doors are initially scaled to fit each of the group sizes, so a solo practice boss is by default easier than a 4 man group practice boss, and so on.
When talking to one of the NPCs that represents the desired challenge (which could be marked by banners above each of the NPC's individual platforms), the player(s) can select a dungeon or trial that is on a list in the chat dialogue, and if they select a dungeon the can then select veteran or normal, and from there they can select one of the bosses from the selected dungeon or trial to practice against in the room.
After selecting the desired boss, the summoners will then teleport to balconies in the top of the circular room and summon the selected boss. The players then fight a boss of the difficulty they selected from the specific NPC they talked to. The boss, however, does not drop loot, or drops loot that is lesser than the boss in the dungeon or trial drops.
In the challenge mode, however, the boss could drop loot that is on par with the loot dropped by the boss in the dungeon itself, and a special achievement could be awarded for killing the challenge boss, and or kill all the bosses on challenge mode. The challenge mode boss, however, would need to be harder to defeat than the boss in the dungeon itself.
Achievements, such as the challenge mode achievement, could be awarded for completing bosses in the practice arena that could award things like titles or dyes when the dye system is implemented.
Let me know what you think!
