Why did People call me a Boter ?

I`m new to Mmo games and maybe there are some unwritten rules I`m not aware of..
Here is my problem I really don`t understand:
Today I went back to Bleakrock Isle to collect some stuff for crafting ( I did so before like 5 or 6 times) someone whispered to me in a "really nice" way that I´m a Boter. I was like "What is a ..... Boter" 10 minutes after that the Chat went a bit crazy saying I `m a boter and everybody should be aware of that. So this time I wrote back, just to get more "nice answers"....

Is it a unwritten rule to not going back to Areas I`ve finished to collect ?
I`m a usual Player as everybody, I`ve seen some People doing exactly the same...
So what am I doing wrong that I bother these Players ?
I just collect stuff, I don`t replay the Bossfights, I help people if I can, so what is going on there ?

I don`t like cheaters or People that playing around in the Gamefiles so why does People think that I do so ?

If your characters name is gfdrgri that might have something to do with it.

If it happens again put them straight by saying,
'Go *** your self, you donkey *** *** eater'. There can be no doubt then.

But on a more serious note, don't worry about it. As long as you don't feel like you are cheating you are probably not.

There's nothing wrong with gathering mats, it's just that everyone's used to seeing bot armies in the starter island, harvesting nodes like locust. It got to the point that real players just stopped going there because there was nothing left for them to gather. It's much better now, but it's difficult to get rid of this automatic reaction people developed.

Whispering someone to confirm they're a real player is okay, but insults or harassment definitely aren't. You can report people who do it if it bothers you, or just put them on ignore.

They are talking about a bot runner, aka gold farmer. Unfortunately, because bots are still in the game (especially in Bleakbot.. err, Bleakrock Isles) that anyone mats collecting is starting to get that label. Kinda stupid, because the game has a crafting system and not everyone wants to or can buy mats off the guild store.

Basically, you were in the wrong area (Bleakbot... err, Bleakrock) doing exactly what anyone with spare time does.

Sounds like someone having a bad day. Don't sweat it. Why would one talk to a bot anyways, other than to see it's really a bot.

Your name "looks" botter-ish, if you will. Botter names are usually just random assortments of letters.

And yes, your name does look 'bot'-ish. I suffer with the same issue. I've been reported just for harvesting because I added an 'i' to 'hyde'.

If your new to MMO let me pass on wisdom after 10 years

If someone is rude ignore them (as in the function so they disappear from your world)

When grouping never stand for abuse

When in guild do not stay if people are rude and abusive but give the guild a chance to rectify their behaviour

Those three things will help

The only thing I can imagine is that someone was clearing a mob to get to a node or chest, and you moved on in and snatched it. I've seen that done many times. But such is life, even if I do consider it bad form.

Otherwise it doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong.

Now if you're just following someone around snatching up nodes while they're fighting the mobs, that's a whole diff can of worms.

Although I can't say I haven't done that to grief someone who's done it to me so much as to chase them to a wayshrine..

They must not be too swift. ESPECIALLY if you are answering them in chat. A bot won't. Plus you can usually tell a bot by the name. Like RKADQDA. Usually not even a word.

Keep collecting, crafting and ignore the weirdos. If they keep bugging you..report them.

Dunno why chat would explode. If an accused botter actually responds in Zone chat, just responding pretty much exonerated the accused.

No, you are fine. Unfortunately you are starting playing MMOs in 2014....Apparently in modern online gaming doing something or even appearing to do something that someone else can't do / wouldn't do / doesn't like automatically makes you an "abuser" or "exploiter" or any other litany of buzzwords with all of the thoughtfulness and insight of an old fashioned lynching.

And for some reason, while a great game, ESO has attracted hoardes of these turds.

I've seen people call other players cheaters and exploiters for everything from grinding exp on mobs to level in lieu of questing, multi boxing, power levelling, abd even just using legit abilities in ways they never thought of. That's just off the top of my head. I've never seen a game so infested with these people like this one.

Play the game how you want. Don't actually cheat, obviously, but don't worry about these idiots. The further past the lower and mid level zones you get the less of this stupidity you have to deal with.

Been thinking about starting a second account and seeing how it goes 2 boxing a couple of alts.

Tempted to name them zfegrgr or some such and always run around with weapons out just to see how long it takes for people to say I'm botting. Lol

Yeah, sometimes i feel a bit old out there with my age of 35

I`m just not used to such kind of people, I played a lot of Rpg`s and are definitely one that likes all about crafting and skilling and so on.
I mean even if I had the thought that someones is cheating, I still would be respectful

I totaly agree with You, that would be a kind of "bad farming" I havn`t seen people doing that so far, but I´m just Level 12 and got as far as ebonheart so I`m pretty sure to see people doing so in the future

As I mentioned before I`m playing RPG`s the last 15 Years but never online, so this will give me a "little guide"

if you don't follow botter routes and don't move in a robotic way it's not an issue

botters run off mapped routes - so if you change up your routes constantly - it shouldn't be an issue

botters(software) also zigzag -to match those routes at pre-established points - that are exact and repeatable -like 90 degree turns- 120,150,180's and always turning on a dime at node locations or spawn locations

humans have a tendency to make looped turns with the mouse

watch some bot trains - they all follow each other exactly

I get paranoid about this, I run a longish route in a resource rich area simply to get stuff to refine without getting jumped by VR mobs and I wonder if people sometimes think I am a bot... being real the route varies slightly each time, you won't stop at nodes that haven't spawned, you will stop to join in fights & random events etc so pretty obvious to someone you are not a bot... but there is a lot of bot paranoia in the game for good reason so it is bound to happen I guess...

Yes, it is rather sad. Now we have bots. Anyone who uses legitimate mat gathering, is going to be called a bot. I am reminded of in another game, people were using an exploit to get drops in a one off event. Meaning if you stood in the same area to farm, you were labelled an exploiter. Funniest thing was just a night before, we had a GM stood watching one of my guild mates doing the same thing we were, and did nothing.

In short OP, some people will do anything to be important, and get their own way. No, need to concern yourself. If this happens again, tell them, if they have any issues or concerns about any conduct rule being broken, they can contact a GM, instead of spamming chat to get attention, and doing nothing about it.

Im one of those that could be mis identified as a bot. That is why I run no adds with this game. My play style requires me to run repetitive Efficient routes to aquire as many Alchemy reagents/ Runes/ Insect parts as possible per sweep. Once I take off, it looks like im running a script. That's only because I have mastered my route. I know when to make the horse jump and I know what I can and cannot do, simply because ive done my route so many times that I know everything about it. No need for a compass, I know exactly were im going. Sometimes runes don't respawn in tne same place, I know all the secondary late spawns on those too. I know when im coming up hills that if I don't see the glow, then the other rune spawn down the hillside probably spawned. I got my stuff down to such a perfect science that look exactly like a bot when I play, I never get whispered or asked if im a bot. If some one did accuse me, Nicely or UnNicely I would probably tell them to F off. Then I would stop my route, Because that person is probably a Sorry Ass spy trying to steal my route. I don't like competition. I know how to get rich and I don't share my secrets. Im stingy and greedy with my routes. I developed and designed them and I don't share. I shared one 1 route with a friend when I was leveling enchanting because I out growed it. I had to move on to end game rune craft and he was still playing Catch up. I Do not condone 3rd party programs or scripts or bots. Mainly because if I got banned for something I Know I didn't do, I would be HIGHLY PIST OFF. Addons, or bots and all of that crap should not be allowed to be used. I don't have time for Bull $hit bans.
