That being said, I do agree the quests need to be interesting and involve exploring something cool and killing something challenging. I don't care for repetitive and boring quests either. But this game does a good job at making quests fun - at least in my opinion - as they often have interesting story lines and characters with plenty of fighting and exploring to go along with it. And I was hoping Craglorn would give me the chance to do some of this with friends.

The problem ESO has in this area for me is that I cannot group with the people I want going through. The phasing just won't allow it all too often. Yet on the other hand , when I don't want people, when my lone hero is sent into a dungeon on a quest, there's a stampede of strangers all doing the same thing.

The phasing has been a huge disappointment. All drawbacks and no benefits. It makes a largely single player quest story into a flashmob of strangers while preventing you going through it with casual friends.

I'd have preferred a traditional server experience with quest locations instanced. And with grouping with who you want, even if they are 'ahead' in the story or made a different dialogue choice 3 weeks back.

It's an odd 'worst of both worlds' approach they've taken for no obvious benefit.

I'd prefer an engine that didn't give a flying leap who I grouped with and kept other people out of my story when I didn't want them there.

Just because i felt like it. I completed all my zones in my faction and didnt feel like completing the quests and/or reading stories of my opposing faction, so i went to craglorn and vr2-vr10 in 3 days.

Why in the world would anyone want to rush to the end game (and by this I mean vr12)? There is nothing there! No major, epic, all-expansion-length-awaited superboss, no real new challenge compared to leveling, no real gearing options over and above what is being presented through leveling, no house, no wife/husband, no kingdom awaits. This game IS the leveling, the questing, the stories, why are you rushing to the end?
and if WoW had no endgame would you also tell all the wow players to slow down and "not get to max level" like you do these players? or would tell blizzard their game is in a broken state?

pretty sure i know your answer and thats a double standard and i have no idea why you would take zenimaxs side.

Also on the same scenario i made up of WoW having no endgame.. well hey, they have tonnes and tonnes of questing zones that you could just force everyone to complete every last bit to get to max level (nobody likes being able to choose a path while leveling,we actually want ALL the content forced down our throats) and then put 10 more fake levels on top of it all and make everyone level through the opposings factions quests too just so they dont get to the point were they see theres no end game right?

P.S this is an MMO IT NEEDS ENDGAME

Its a subscription based MMO it cant be all questing, now they promised new content every 4-6weeks, so lets say honestly we get it every 7weeks(this is probably being generous as the first update which was obviously well into design pre launch took 7weeks and obviously this game does not have as many subs(revenue) now as they expected when stating 4-6weeks)... assume that's a new zone like craglorn, is that 2months ($30) worth of playability?... even though the next content update is rumored to be 1-2 VR dungeons (no questing zone!!!!!)

Well to be honest when WoW come out in 2004 the game did not have much of end game at all most lvl 60 back then was sit around in Org and SW most of the time and if i reminder right it took blizzard 6 month before the add any real end game content but back them people was do other thing like PvP and carft or just chatting but now as soon a new mmo don't have end game content people scream it is broken it more like people have be spoil by fact a game should have end game content.

But most people expect new mmo should have everything from start which most people by now should know that will never happen no mmo have everything from start how fun would that then people would come to forum whine about the are not add anything new to game instead.

TESO came out in 2014 and is one of the first few hundred MMO's released

WOW came out in 2004 and was one of the first few MMO's released

holding their releases to the same standards just proves how far behind this game is in terms of an MMO content wise

Ok forget WoW then. Compare this game to other more recent releases such as SWTOR or Final Fantasy 14. Because this game's launch was 100 times better than either of those.

So even holding ESO to your standard of only comparing it with recent releases, I don't think you can fairly bash this game for a bad launch. Because it went smoothly when compared to other MMO launches I have participated in. Even the more recent ones.

Cant speak for FF14 but as for swtor there was bugs yea, imbalance of classes yea, not as bad as here though, but heres the thing, you would hit max level and have multiple flashpoints(dungeons) to gear up in, 2 raids.. daily quest hubs.. and multiple pvp venues.. ON RELEASE..

Not even comparable, also in swtor i was way more immersed in the story, here I'm just sort of doing random tasks for people. I started swtor on early acsess for pre order.. it wasnt perfect by any means, eso i came in a month later because im sick new game bugs, it was in the same condition as swtor pre release and a couple weeks later i hit vr ranks and they accidentely buff the content to make it unplayable? LOL break the game so i get errors trying to log in for a few days?? ugh and even if i could manage through all that crap to reach max level.. thats pretty much the end of the game.

The industries standards for when a game is ready to be released is just TERRIBLE and zenimax has just tried to set the bar even lower

Respectfully, I'd say the opposite of SWTOR, in it being god-awful at this point and at launch - there was a small "in-between" window where it was an ok game, but not for some time.
    • To this day the class "balance" is grossly unbalanced
    • Stories were thrown away for "shared" stories that lack anything showing the commitment that some of the original class stories had
    • You couldn't even play for days at launch due to the hours of log in queues (which led to dozens of servers which went empty in months anyway and led to a merge) and game-breaking bugs, lag, etc.
    • People hit end-game in a week to a month after exploiting either the travel bug which allowed low levels to go to Illum, etc. and level up instantly, or using the early PvP exploit to get full sets of top gear (at that time) in a day, which led to months of imbalance from that alone on top of class imbalance
    • After it went F2P, the central focus has been the Cartel Market / nickel & diming the players at any opportunity
    • Not showing chances on getting X item in cartel packs which led to compulsive / addictive gambling trends for some players
    • Abondonment of what was advertised for Collector's Edition owners when the game was in pre-order mode (ie the in-game CE store not getting updated with "unique items not found anywhere else in-game, " etc. [Imagine Zenimax/Bethesda deciding to not include any / part of the items promised in buying a Collector's Edition here - that's what happened and EA got away with it].
    • There are still bugs from their beta in game
    • CS will never get back to you unless it is about not being able to pay for something / Cartel Market - related

I could go on, but I just want to note that I had hope for SWTOR (nothing unrealistic), and it is sad how poorly that game turned into and how much the community has declined there in standards and in population. People *** about this game, but TESO has nothing in comparison to how horrible SWTOR is; it could be much worse people.

    To answer your question OP,

Some people really enjoyed the game, and played it allot. the fact that they got their sooner then others is less from the need to "rush" and more from specifically the time put in.

As someone mentioned earlier, even if you read everything and do everything in the game, you can still make it to level cap in 4-5 days of playtime. depending on what your life situation is like, you may have that time available now...or not.

Some people spend their spare time doing games. My cousin spends most of his spare time working on cars. a hobby is a hobby. and just like any other hobby, you get more out of it if you put more time into it.

there's quite a few people out there who don't necessarily have kids, or a job that works them 50 hours a week. lots of people are doing 30 hour work weeks....or are in school and only putting in 10-20 hours (or no hours), and have a light school load at the moment. I even know some people who take off vacation time to enjoy a game when it firsts comes out, so they easily have 4 days to play a game.

In conclusion, Im just ratifying what many others are saying. it's not about rushing (though im sure some did). it's all about time played...and how you approached that time. I didn't rush, i did skip some books (I go back and read them when im bored, as I prefer the action in the game)...and I still didn't get there as fast as some. but faster then others.

Indeed, SWTOR got a lot wrong, but IMO the one thing they did quite well was grouping. And from that, ESO should take copious notes.

When the game first came out, I thought I was leveling INCREDIBLY slow. Two and a half weeks in and I was 40 something and was seeing Vets everywhere. I didn't care back then because I was actually taking the time to read, listen and explore everything. I was having a fun time leveling.

Once I hit VR1, that all changed. The leveling process became RIDICULOUSLY slow. After a day of playing I was nowhere near the next level. When I was 1-50 I leveled at least once a day and off pure questing which takes A LOT of time. I also HAD absolutely NO interest in playing the other faction's storyline.

    anyways..

So I sat here and said, "At this rate I won't be able to do Craglorn which is Vet 10 content." I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure when Craglorn was first revealed it was supposed to be only for max level meaning vet 10. I guess they changed it after the numerous complaints of people on how leveling was so slow (which it was), and how they wouldn't be able to enjoy end content.

I grinded dungeons to hit v10 asap, anticipating craglorn's release, and to also avoid questing as much as possible. So that's basically why I "rushed to hit max level", there's also the fact that I like to have an "edge" in pvp. By no means is
v12 > v1 etc set in stone, but I do feel I'm slightly more powerful when I'm max level.

I understand what you are saying. That's one reason I was really hoping Craglorn would allow people to team up do quests together. Since the normal PvE areas seemed to be designed for single players aside from the dungeons and world boss encounters.

I would have to disagree with you about SWTOR. That game also suffered from a very poorly executed launch.

For example: I would literally have to wait in queue lines for hours and pray once I did get in I didn't get booted off due to some random error and have to start the process all over again. It was frustrating to the point I even gave up trying to play at all on many days. And this continued for weeks after launch.

Where as on Elder Scrolls I've been able to successfully play and enjoy the game from day 1 of early release - outside of maintenances of course. So I feel I owe them credit on this.

I agree with you this game has bugs that need to be addressed. Disagree with you about SWTOR having a superior story-line. I find this game's narrative to be remarkably well written and more interesting. But that is more a matter of personal tastes rather than how well the game was launched.

In your view, what do you define as "rushing"? I ask because everyone might have a different idea of what rushing looks like.

Anyway, there have been a few posters who have said something along the lines of players "consuming content". Consuming suggests food, with ESO as the meal. Different people eat their meal at different rates - some eat quickly, and others eat slowly. And if some people feel the need to eat quickly, who am I to say anything? Perhaps they are hungry.

I prefer to eat slowly, and to clean my plate.
