Conclusion after 2 mounth playing TESO : skills, class (NB/SORC) and gameplay

Hello everyone, i have to share my opinion and my experience because TESO is a good game but there are many many problems killing the game and the fun we can have. In fact classes and skills are unfortunately not balanced at all ...

My first character is an archer night blade Veteran 1 but i realized that to be efficient i have to reroll to do another character for an archer sorcerer ....

I think you all know why and understand my feeling !! No ? really ? Gonna explain it with all other sad things i found playing TESO...


VARIOUS SKILLS :

- An archer is good with a pet, BUT maybe everyone else wanna play with a tiger or maybe a snake or whatever... why does the only pet we can have in this game is with sorcerer s skills ? why can t we have a skill to get a pet in undaunted skills to be able to play with any monster you met in your adventures in the world ???

- why do all spiders in the game are doing a BIG web on the floor to slow every ennemies on the area of the web and the skill "trapping webs" of undaunted is a SINGLE target. It s ridiculous

- The bow skill "Volley" has the same mecanic as the "Lightning splash" ability in sorcerer skills BUT "Volley" DO 2x less damages !!!
My character lvl 14 with 172 magicka and 172 stamina DO :
- 9 physical damages with Volley
- 17 magic damages with Lighting splash

And "lightning splash" has a synergie to do 100 more damages !!! SHAME SHAME SHAME

- "Snipe" is not that good ... 3 secs to shoot and can t be used under 20 meters, it s ONLY a siege skill... really sad in my opinion because when you are playing with a bow, you are really impatient to have a strong skill on a single target to play with something else than the "poison arrow" that is your FIRST skill of bow you get in the game.... "scatter shot" being an escape/control skill, can only be shot at 10 meters and "snipe" only availe bitween 20/40 meters... so you HAVE TO play with "poison arrow" for the rest of your life.

- " Arrow Spray" is too weak compared to other area skills in the game. This skill still really good with "Bombard" upgrade to have some control even if once again this skill miss seriously lot of damages. "Poison Spray" upgrade is really weak because damages bonus are over time, once again we NEED DIRECT DAMAGES to be efficient !!!

- The ultimate skill "Overload" in sorcerer skills is stupid... When using this skill, you dont have your weapon in hands anymore. It is NOT enchanting your weapon with increased lighting power as you can imagine but enchanting your hands to do lightning damages... so with my archer, i can t use heavy attacks anymore to engage a fight AND when i am using my weapon skills, it s doing no animation, no move, nothing but still doing damages... The nothingness in my hands are doing bow skills and damages... are you serious... I choosed to use a kind of weapon, i dont want this skill to remove my weapon !!!

- Need an "Open" skill in undaunted to open chest. Why does an orc fighter that dunno how to read a book can open a chest ??? is that inate for everyone ??? Make a skill with 4 lvls difficulty ---> easy, intermediate, hard, expert


NIGHT BLADE and GAMEPLAY :

I really think that the night blade is failed, still have some good skills but most of theses are really bad, weak or useless, making this class really weak compared to all other class in the game. In fact, the night blade has NO MOBILITY and NO DAMAGES because most of them are damages over time, on 10 seconds, it s too much long and night blade need DIRECT damages...

- Make stealth ability exclusive for night blade ... Why do healers, sorcerers or tanks in HEAVY armor are able to be in stealth mode as a night blade ??? no reasons, it s stupid

- Night Blade should be able to go in stealth mode when using " Shadow Cloak" in a fight !!! You are furtive or your are not !!!

- The skill "teleport strike" could be used without any target to have a good mobility as Sorcerers with their "Bolt escape"

- The skill " assassin's blade" is good but the " impale" upgrade ( allowing you to use it with 20 meters range) is not good enough compared to "mage s fury" skill that is doing same damages with the AOE effect and ALREADY used at 28 meters range without any upgrade.

- The skill "Blur" in assassination is useless because there is the skill "evasion" with medium armors. I know, one is using magicka and one is using stamina but NO WAY it s the same thing, find something else and do this night blade BETTER.

- The skill "Mark Target" ... not that bad but could be nice to reduce the bonus to have no malus. The "piercing mark" is not good enough in my opinion because "mark target" should ALWAYS give vision on furtive ennemies for a short duration, 10 seconds or something.

- Haste ---> "Incapacitate" is really bad, find something better. The fact to ONLY immobilize a target on your 7th attack ( max lvl of the skill ) for 2 seconds is ridiculous and not strong enough for the last skill of the assassination skills.

- "Path of Darkness" needs direct damages or something to make this skill better and really stronger

- "Aspect of terror" is not strong enough compared to "Daedric Mines" of the sorcerer. "Aspect of terror" does NO DAMAGES and only affect 2 ennemies, rework it.

- "Summon Shade" is the WORST skill i have ever seen in all MMO I have played in 10 years. Shadow is SLOW, SO WEAK, BRAINLESS ( stop attacking ennemies with no reason), USELESS and UGLY !!! "Summon Shade" is the last skill of the shadow tree and this shade CAN T even kill a lvl 6 ennemi in the first area in 15 seconds.... grats on it...

- "Strife" is a really good skill !!! I just think one of "Strife" skill upgrade could be an area spell to have a regen on many ennemies. Another upgrade could be a direct regen with NO effect on duration.

- " Cripple" --> another skill that is doing damages over time ... reduce the time from 8 to 2 seconds or just apply direct damages !!!

- " Drain power" --> need something to have this skill usefull for group under 6 ennemies and for bow user cause this skill mecanic is thought for melee fighters.


I think you miss some ESSENCIAL things with the night blade, assassination skills should be direct burst damages with some poison passive ( with DIRECT effects or bonus damages), shadow skills should be mobility ( as good as bolt escape), illusions escape, usefull invisibility and really good scary and charismatic devoring shadow summon... siphoning skills should be the skills of the vampire predator sleeping in each night blade thisrty of blood ...



I started to play videos games when i was 3 years old, i m playing MMOs for more than 10 years, so please trust me i m passionate in what i am saying, please try to think about it, try to do it better for everyone because this game is really good even if i m not in love with some of your bow skills and your night blade...

    People need to realize, There are weapons in this game that are severely underpowered/broken. Just because your weapon and class is fine doesn't mean everything is fine.

    Not really, because i think the siphoning line combined with archery is pretty amazing.
    An archer is good with a pet

    An archer can be good without a pet as well!

    Those two things archery and pet might nice but its not a standard!

    Where have you been while playing your Nightblade?

    They don't have a cloak for having dps breaks or strong stealth openers while enemies looking in your direction and all other 3 classes cannot just run straight to any specific place and skipping mob packs.

    If you cannot appreciate this kind of exclusive ability you really should not play the NB!

    No, the NB is not a sorc, get over it!

    Useless because of what?

    1. You found a reason to use a stamina based skill ... Congratulations!

    2. Will it give you the passives from Assasins line? No!

    3. Does it trigger enemy off balance? No!

    4. Is a dodge chance the same like a to miss chance? No!

    Dude, you are stacking Spell and weapon power with those piercing marks per enemy for 30 second after he dies and you get a great heal.

    So basically the death of this enemy will transform your debuff to a strong dps buff ...

    And you want a short duration? You a real funny guy.

    Next patch, damage is increased, already announced!

    Please get some knowledge about generating ultimates on activation and usage of certain skills!

    Another great skill , especially for your archer when it comes to kiting ...

    I appreciate the detailed analysis anytime I see one.

    I m unsure many of the suggestion can be realistically implemented, because NB is a melee class, and it can't really just copy sorc skill tree.

    However, NB at the moment is broken, and they do need to buff the class up somehow.

    May be bow skill line should be enhanced to work beget with NB skill lines?

    Some merit in this post by OP, he does highlight the fact that most of the Nightblade class skill progression is some what lack luster or comes with too much penalty compared to other classes. Or the situation where it can be used either don't make sense or the percentage is just too low compared to the magicka used.

    You would think if you were to invest that much into it and invest skill points x2 to get it that you would get a better bang for it.

    This is not wow. The pet is a summoning spell, and yes is similar to WoW Locks, but you are not a WoW Hunter.

    Getting shot by an arrow, and struck by lightning are two incredibly different things. More likely I will survive the arrow, and that is using only real world common sense without the fantasy thrown in.All of this aside, the NB issues are well known, as we can see by the Zmax post about upcoming fixes to the NB.

    It's not what i am saying exactely, i am saying that the ONLY class that can get a pet is SORCERER and it s not NORMAL that it is EXCLUSIVE for SORCERER and it could be a good thing to be able to domesticate any monster you meet in the game to have a pet you want to have with ANY class

    Sorcerer has "bolt escape" the best escape skill in the game to teleport away from any situation...
    "Shadow cloak" doesn t give you the opportunity to escape monsters agressivity when they saw you, it only give you 2.5 seconds of invisibility and you CAN T go back in stealth mode even if you are INVISIBLE ... hahah what a shame, it s 100% illogical

    Anyway, you are not facing the problem that a sorcerer has not to have a free stealth mode, a warrior in heavy armor has not to have a free stealth mode. A night blade is a pro in furtivity and has to be efficient in this skill that s the way

    It is you opinion, mine is that night blade can be one with shadows and can travel in it. He could be able to teleport in shadows as a sorcerer teleport in the sky like thunder. On the same way, tanks and 2 hands weapon fighters could be able to use their charge without any target, to have a great mobility.

    You are not reading what i am saying, i say that the mark should ALWAYS give vision on invisible ennemies for like 10 seconds without any upgrade. And then the upgrade giving vision on invisible target is not good enough, it could be better than this

    - Drop a trap --> 3 or 4 seconds to arm / NO damages / fear 4 secs

    Sorcerer : daedric mines ( 2 upgrades possible)
    - drop 5 mines / 3 secs to arm / good damages / immobilized 1.5 secs
    - drom 3 mines / arm INSTANTLY / good damages / immobilized 1.5 secs

    Dont worry about it i m aware of how skills are working and if you think about it, you ll understand that one of my upgrade suggestion for this skill works on a duration on an area to have the regen bonus from many ennemies and the other one works on a single target instantly to have a big regen instantly. It s a good way to have a better gameplay in some situations with various build.

    Did i say something about the speed bonus ?? don t think so ...just saying that it is ANOTHER skill doing damages over time and night blade need DIRECT damages... you are really not paying attention when you are reading my post dude...

    I m really sorry but i am playing archers in MMO for more than 10 years and the night blade in TESO is one of the worst thing i have ever seen. Just think about it

    Just want to add that a tank or a 2hd weapon fighter should be able to use his charge without any target to have a good mobility also

    The only skill I really detest, the way it works per the tool tip is leeching strikes, Weapon skills do so much less damage that class skills then you use this thing and reduce weapon damage by iirc 28% is what the tooltip says.

    Take 28% from Bow damage and one should stand there and wave at the NPC holding a big sign

    "Kill me, Kill me now, come on do it"

    And I's also like to know who made the decision that weapon skills were to be inferior to class skills? I think that was a bade design decision

    Because you are not supposed to get back into stealth.

    I know where you coming from, you want to get out of combat ...

    You are missing the point, what you are trying to say is that the NB can be played as a caster type of class. Thats nothing new ... Welcome to ESO.

    But this still has nothing todo with an ESO sorc!
    If you want to play one, re roll but quit trying to copy class A to class B , it wont work!

    You only pick some minor synergies and then you define "everything" as disadvantage and thats *** because you don't see the core difference of both classes and you ignore any advantage NB has.

    If you seriously think a developer or designer would care about narrow minded class conclusions, good luck with that!

    Sorcerer : daedric mines ( 2 upgrades possible)
    - drop 5 mines / 3 secs to arm / good damages / immobilized 1.5 secs
    - drom 3 mines / arm INSTANTLY / good damages / immobilized 1.5 secs

    Thats why i prefer nightblade with an instant 4 sec fear right at the spot where i need it!

    2.5 sec more has nothing todo with matter of preference its the better CC.
    4 sec in total gives you alot of time to get your shi t straight and gain control of the fight. Most bosses and adds are not even immun to CC , so don't complain , CC is very strong in TESO and 4 sec is outstanding that can be instantly recasted.

    There we go, TESO is very easy and forgiving when it comes to immunity timers.
    If players don't see or use such advantages, its their own problem!

    With NB class lines you can one shot or at least kill your first target in 3-4 seconds, stun lock a second target , use mass hysteria and reg your ressources in combat and cause a dps stop with cloak to continue the CC rotation and after 2 kills of maybe 5 you didn't lose any health. (Thats why you use reapers mark to open and killers blade to finish him off to get great heals and to move on with next target on your CC rota)

    If you just want to spam OP AOE skills and watch, and you think thats fun or challenging, go and play a casual anytimer DK ...

    Again, he is not a clone and has other class line related advantages.
    If you want to play AOE strong class lines, play DK or sorc.

    You are not using leeching strike morphs for short fights, or if you are fine with ressource management.

    Especially bow is currently the best option beside S/S to balance stamina and magicka on your slot. Because at least you have 2 skills that are stamina based and your magicka pool gets a break.

    Show me this kind of efficiency with 2 H or Dual wield ...

    Then you find the real issue in TESO, a surviving melee DD.

    When it comes to efficiency, TESO only offers you to be a strong caster or a tank, and this is not restricted to NB, this huge melee design hole counts for all classes!

    I see allot of people making these kinds of comparisons with WoW classes vs ESO. This was not meant to be nor do I want it to be a clone of WoW. WoW had it's fun in the early years, but the biggest reason why I quit playing is because everything is pretty much handed to you. They removed the class quests, made leveling super easy (Even without heirlooms you can level real fast) and made lots of the challenging quest mobs easy to solo.

    I can understand why some people would think this game is too hard, or the classes are not what they expected, but you have to realize that ESO is doing it's best to not be like the other MMOs. If they ever cave in and start homogenizing the game just to keep subs, then that is the day I will quit and find something else to take my time.

    snipe is not that good? in pvp good snipers can kill v12 with 2 shots.

    Unfortunately many players want routines, they feel more comfy because they don't need and want to re think ... As well a big part of them want easy classes to feel great without challenges, thats why many of them are playing DKs.

    Every game has such a class for having a casual friendly option. Personally i am fine with those classes in every game as long you don't screw PvP balancing.

    I get that balance is important to an MMO - especially an MMO where PvP plays an important role - but I really wish people would stop looking at another class and saying "But they get to <X>, and that isn't fair!"

    I play an NB archer, and I love it. Yes, I have to be careful and take my time. Yes, sometimes boss fights come down to whether or not my stamina is going to outlast their health. Yes, in PvP I get owned a lot -especially when I forget how squishy I am and get desperate to finish a kill when I should let them run away.

    But I'm a stealthed sniper. I should be taking my time. I shouldn't be in the middle of the mobs, trying to do melee damage. If I'm in a dungeon with groups of more than 3 mobs, then I should have help with me. It just makes sense.

    I don't think I've ever really seen a movie where the sniper, sitting 500 meters away from the action, gets on the microphone and complains to his CO that he isn't in the thick of the battle killing people up close and personal, or complaining because the guy with the machine gun does better DPS than he does.

    Again, I get that there are balance issues, but FFS play your character and stop worrying about everyone else. So what if as a NB I'll never be emperor - I'm fine with that. I can stand on a wall and fill EP and DC players full of arrows so that another member of my faction has a better chance to be emperor.

    My reading comprehension lacks the patience. I got as far as the volley part. I have a low level (22) Nightblade Warlock. I only use the bow for the venom interrupt and a few passives. None of the other skills fit my warlock build so I can't comment. I will say that I love him though. This isn't the first NB whine thread though. I'm under the impression that they are getting buffed at some point. Play something else for now.

    Show me this kind of efficiency with 2 H or Dual wield ...

    Then you find the real issue in TESO, a surviving melee DD.

    When it comes to efficiency, TESO only offers you to be a strong caster or a tank, and this is not restricted to NB, this huge melee design hole counts for all classes!

    The Damage reduction is imho just over the top I could see 15% but almost double that, and reduce the amount returned on all stats i could live with that also but almost a 30% damage reduction do other classes get damage reduction on abilities that return resources?

    Some classes wish they would have a useful skill to gain back resources properly ...

    A passive switch like NB leech is unique and helpful. Sure you lose damage but in certain situations it keeps you in the game and in combat for a long time ...
    Damage reduction is high but I still appreciate to have a skill like that.

    I give you a couple reasons why NB is great for survival and why damage is not everything ...

    I have 2 Sorcs, a DK, a Templar and 2 NBs.

    Now I fight 2 Sorcs, a DK and 1 NB. They are wildly different. I play them in very different ways because of this.

    An NB is an assassin and a good one, they burst well and should have all the buffs you can fit for movement and stealth. My son a VR1 NB is good at it and we do 4 persons together, I send my witch for those and do them well. I stand in the back and fry stuff, I'm good at that, he is all over the place taking down the next most important mob, healers usually. This works pretty well. My Clanfear will tie up one or two mobs and the three of us win ... a lot. My sorc is pretty still done right as I am a weapons platform and moving uses up stamina. If pushed she can move like an NB, I do have one, but it uses up useful smack.

    NBs are perhaps the hardest class to play but very rewarding done right.

    Archery. I just discovered how good it is for a sorc. My witch got bit by my son at level 24 and had to, well fight, some much higher level mobs. I don't think that spoils anything. Any way she can, she has been killing stuff way over her head for ever.

    Anyway they are tough and after getting through a couple, with difficulty, we went hmmmm. I do that a lot. Looked in her pack and there is a really nice level 24 Oak bow she made for our other sorc. Now she has never touched a weapon before, just stave's, so she has bow skill 4 I think.

    Anyway, I drop both pets, hardly ever do that, and stealth. The rest of the mobs never even see me. I put an arrow from stealth in the mob and Nofear runs over and bites him. He does not even know I am there. Aftter he just kills the Clanfear, he runs to Sweetie Pie and I vampire siphon it to death as he runs past. Effective and the witch will carry a bow now. Hide behind the pets FTW. ;)

    I agree with almost everything the OP said in his post. The most important thing that I've read is the following:

    Nightblades need more direct damage.

    It is true. The NB have a ton of DoT Spells which are not really the point of an assassin. Sure, there should still be some DoTs involved, since assassins kill with poison too (stereotype), however NB are really lacking some direct heavy "BAM ASSASSIN POWER" when you jump on someone.

    Wasn't this different in BETA? I thought NB were quite strong there. Sad.

    Also, the Summon Shade skill. You said it. It is really, and I mean really, disappointing. I thought I could be a Master of Shadows, a Zed, a Stalker in the Dark, someone who commands Shadows to carry out his assassinations.
    There I go, invest a point without further thinking, full of glorious imagination.

    Then the drop: I activate it on a NPC I could kill instantly with one spell myself and I couldn't believe my eyes. My shadow is a *** Gollum, waving his knive into the NPCs face desperately, dealing about 19dmg per hit. First I was stunned. It took my breath. Then I loled so hard that my balls traveled to my lungs and exploded.

    WHAT. THE. FLYING. JESUS. IS. THAT.

    I requested minions of Darkness. Why did I get fluffy jellybeans?

    Sorry but we are in a video game .... and an arrow in your head is as deadly as a thunder river even if you are not in a video game.

    There are no reasons that the skill "volley" do 2x less damages than a sorcerer skill, it is the SAME skill just one is using arrow with stamina and one using thunder with magicka.

    This is not wow. The pet is a summoning spell, and yes is similar to WoW Locks, but you are not a WoW Hunter.
