More Character Slots?

Has there been any word on when we will be able to have more character slots? Either by purchasing them by case or in-game with gold or by earning them in-game; I'd be fine with any of the three aforementioned but those of use who enjoy the game would like more character slots.

Extra character slots would be a great addition to the ESO store.

adding a +1 for this as well.

I have 1characer for each alliance(3), 3 crafters who can't really adventure much because their inventories are crammed full of materials.

Which only leaves me 2 spots for characters that can remain synced with friends so we can actually adventure together.

Leaves me no room for experimenting or having more friends to remain synced with..

    Hopefully it will be soon.

Since games with multiple servers usually have their own set of independent slots on each it seems fair that a single server game should allow for more character slots to compensate. I know you can play both the EU and NA server and get an extra 8, but that's a rather weak to have to keep some of your alts on a server that will eventually be relocated.

This message confirms that you have successfully cancelled your subscription to The Elder Scrolls Online. You will no longer be charged for a subscription on a recurring basis, and your access to the game will expire at the end of your current subscription cycle.

We're sad to see you go now, but we'll be happy to welcome you back at any time! Whenever you're ready to come back, your characters will be waiting for you, just like you left them. You can return anytime by resubscribing on the Manage Subscription page on your Elder Scrolls Online account.

I agree with this completely; its a disservice to the concept of a "Mega" server when it doesn't have the features you would expect across multiple servers.

How does the amount of slots in ESO compare with other subscription games?

I wouldn't even say subscription is a point; although being a paying customer a higher cap (if a cap at all would be a nice point).

@Gedalya Except that ESO was marketed as not only an AAA game, but one where the subscription was supposed to negate the need for a cash shop. I am not anti-paying for more slots, but simply want something to compare it against. WoW, for instance has what - 70 slots available or something like, albeit across multi-servers. GW2 (f2p) starts with 5, but you can increase using in-game gold to 8. I am curious how other subs games compare.

There are a lot of very usefull addons, least of wich is Advanced Filters. I do need a storage char for the Provision parts nobody can use, but overall they did made my life in that regard a lot easier.

What do you need 3 Crafters for???
All alliance have the same sets, can learn all the styles an per COD and bank reach every other Character, on your account or other account
A lot of people craft in Daggerfall Faction, simply because Shornhelm has such a wonderfull layout for crafting.

    Regarding the OP:
I am convinced it will be happening. But no data about when it will happen.
First they need to be certain the DB structure & hardware can handle it, only then can they increase the number of slots. Making the limit dynamic is actually a lot more complex and dangerous then it might sound with the amounts of data we are talking about.
Since this is among the 95% of the work we don't see that much off, it is hard to give any guess.

Wait, what? I'm not at all against more character slots; but the word 'Mega' means very large (or 10^6 depending on context). The server allows a very large player base as compared to most other MMO server designs. Pretty sure the name fits.

I remember a mod for Oblivion that allowed you to set up a heavy armor "kit" and a light armor "kit". You could, with one click of a button swap out your weapons and armor from that of a stealth based character to that of a warrior (tank) or whatever.

    I always liked that ...

Just in case you don't know, there is an Addon that lets you do that right now. It's called Wykkyds Outfitter, and you can do it with both skills and armor. So, if I hit my numpad 1 key, I am fully equipped in light armor with my AOE skills. If I click 3, I'm immediately fully equipped in heavy armor with a bow and appropriate skills.

@zgrssd‌ Presumably he has spread his crafters because of skill point allocation, and that each character carries the relevant mats as a mule.

I do take your point in relation to the location of crafting stations; some are way more convenient than others.

In terms of database structure and hardware, this is supposedly an AAA game, and thus presumably such things were already factored in. GW2 has a dynamic structure, as does WoW. This is not new or ground breaking coding.

I'm also in favor of a purchase via store character slot system. If I might ask, how does it work on other MMOs? Do you buy extra character slots one at a time or in groups of some size?

I'd expect more character slots when they release more classes. But 8 is definitely low compared to how many combinations of everything that can be done in this game.

I'm not sure really; I've played WoW and LoTRO and neither would require purchasing more slots given how they are structured (in other words there is a ton to begin with).

Every game I can remember that offered this, it was a single slot at a time and relatively expensive relative to other purchases.

This game has two servers about 20 times larger then anything but EVE (only other game with something similar to megaservers I know off). And EVE is pretty much an experiment in Server Clustering.
Even with something around 1 Million players per server (so up to 8 million Chatacters) it would be a challenging change. And they had 5 Million beta testers alone.
The ESO servers and thier Databases are a wholy different scale compared to WoW. And a lot of techniques do not scale up that well. But I am confident they will figure it out, in thier due time,

Lotro allows 7 I think, plus 2 you can purchase. For a total of 9 possible per server. Since there are--what--20 servers? That's a potential of 180? Broken across different servers of course.

Oh, and that's not counting "creeps", their pvp players. I think they allow the same number of those, too, so if you pvp, we're talking in the order of 360 alts you could have. That could keep you busy for a weekend!

@zgrssd Software and hardware have moved on considerably since a game like WoW was first written. Other large databases cope with complex tasks daily, and ESO is in no way unique in this. Gaming databases are not massively different to databases that have non-gaming functions that deal with the same numbers you talk about. My point is that this is not ground breaking coding.

I do not share your confidence in the competence of the ESO team, but I truly hope that you are right, and I am wrong in this.

Don't forget you can make 8 more characters on the other megaserver (EU if you're currently on US). However, you don't share the same bank and you have to actually install the client twice. It's also handy if they're doing server maintenance on one so you can play on the other.

I've also been wanting this, because I love having alts. Plus, I can't even have one of each race, since there are 10 races and only 8 slots. Arrghh. Or both male or female characters of each race, which would be 20 characters. But even 10 would make me feel better than a measly 8. I would prefer for them to just let us make more characters, but I will use a purchase option if it were available.

I agree we need more character slots to compensate for having to utilise current slots as bank mules (craft mats esp). However, I would be reluctant to pay RL money for this as it may create a precedence and lead to an external ESO shop.

I still find it strange that our bank can be used by all characters regardless of faction, perhaps this is why bank space is at a premium. Most games allow players x slots per faction with a separate bank. Somehow I wonder if Zenimax actually thought about this issue before implementing the global player bank/account setup?

In some very real ways, my subscription is going to be largely limited by the number of slots. I love making alts. I already have all 8 filled, all of them level 12 and above.

Without more character slots soon.... I won't have any characters left to be able to start fresh and keep playing.

A thread like this requesting more character slots has been coming up like clockwork for quite a while now - with no mention of a yay or nay from an official ZOS source.

So, ZOS, can you please comment on whether additional character slots intend to be added to the game? Or is a player needing to buy a second copy of the game for 8 additional slots the official ZOS thinking.

    Enlighten us please. Thank you.

    (I wouldn't be asking if I didn't love the game. :) )
