Monday Morning Gaming (maintenance)

So I was thinking to myself that the maintenance times they have down so far are pretty great, obviously can't please everyone but for the most part the timing is great but one thing I do notice is that we get a lot of rage posts on Monday mornings when people have the day off for whatever reason be it their scheduled day off, a bank holiday, a sick day, etc. My suggestion is that instead of Mondays & Thursdays for maintenance that we ask ZoS for Tuesdays/Thursdays since we don't have things like bank holiday Tuesdays and whatnot. I am not asking to change the time of the maintenance, just the day to cater to quite a few people based on topics I have seen.

Let me know what y'all think and keep it classy, no flaming haha.

A day is a day is a day... Seriously... its 4 hours. People just need to find something else to do for 4 hours.

Am I the only one that has a "to-do" list as long as my arm at any given moment in time?

I use downtime to get more things done and out of the way so they don't interfere when I do get 'free' time to play.

Tues/Thurs would likely be a waste as they are simply too close together.

It's only 4 hours if there is no patch, and with all the issues, there better be a patch today.

Yea, another poll that means nothing but I guess it makes people feel good.

I like that this is right after the Memorial Day maintenance for which they did it very early which was probably due to attempting to impact fewer players. Seems to have been a kind way to handle maintenance which is very much needed in this game.

Here in Japan. It hits me hard too, bro. Imagine every Monday and Thursday night. I am really greatful they stopped doing it on Fridays though. They did that for folks like us.

The timing was off if I recall.

I am at work every day there is maintenance anyway so for the most part the timing does not affect me except on an odd day but this is simply a poll to gauge other peoples thoughts as there seems to be a lot of rage every day for scheduled maintenance.

If you change it to Tuesday then other people will rage about it being down on a Tuesday. As you said in your own post, you can't please everyone.

Overall it's not a game breaker. usually maintenance anytime i want to play is not optimum...for me

They usually have to make a choice depending on server volumes. And yes, they do know they're server volumes, so unfortunately if your one of those peeps (i am too...usually my mornings are flexible and open), you get hit by maintenance.

On the plus side, they're MW are usually short and I have yet to have one go bonkers and put the servers down (like early WoW and/or a half dozen other MMO's i've played).

Any day you do maintenance, someone will be effected. My concern is that they adopt the WoW model and continue to do maintenance every week for (in the case of wow) years. As a new game I totally get the need for frequent fixes, maintenance etc. but if they go the WoW model, not again for me

Yeah. I'd also prefer servers that crash every few minutes because the developers aren't on top of their regular maintenance schedule. Better that than me missing out on a few precious hours of gaming during non-peak times.

Always someone with a smartass response. there are dozens of mainstream MMOs who do not bring servers down every week for regular maintenance. then there are MMO's like WoW, who by design brought their servers down every Tuesday for 8+ hours for years. My comment was a simple, if ESO follows the WoW model, then for me personally I will look to another game with better technology

Sigh.... I guess you have decided that this has to confrontational at every step for whatever reason. Ok, I'll start to name MMOs that did not resort to server maintenance every single week for years. Not talking about patches, fixes, game updates etc. just regular old MMOs who did not follow WoW's years of bringing the server down every week (WoW case, every tuesday for 8+ hours for years)

Asherons call, Everquest, Rift, Aion, Secret World, DAOC, City of heroes, GW1, GW2, Age of Conan, Eve, Warhammer online, D&D online, LoTR, Linage, Linage 2, Star wars galaxies, SWtOR, and that's just a small sample.

Games that outside of patch's and fixes, simple let their servers run

A huge number of those do/did have regular maintenance/downtime, but either you didn't notice or you were willing to switch servers. Most major MMOs have regular downtime, and complaining about a few hours a week (when odds are you wouldn't be playing anyway) is just silly.

SWG had an hour of maintenance every day for years, between noon and 1pm GMT.

ESO is a new game still so regular maintenance is very sensible. Having it spread out through the week is also sensible, so that there are no more than 4 days between server downtimes.

Non-issue. Maintenance has to be done especially for new mmos. ZOS would get flak no matter what day of the week they chose for maintenance. Monday is a better day to do maintenance than Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

When they get the game running decently (probably in 6-9 months), maybe then they can think about skipping regular maintenance.

One last attempt to explain since you are focused only on downtime and not what I am saying. All games have downtime especially new games. At the beginning it is mostly for fixes and optimization, and of course patches and then later it is more for patches and new content. I have no issue with any of those things

What WoW did was bring down the server EVERY Tuesday for 8+ hours for years for "maintenance" even if they made NO change to the game. The games I quoted as example do not do this. Sure they have fixes, patches, content etc. I fully expect this game to have a lot of maintenance over the next few months as I originally stated. My comment was simple (apparently not simple enough) that once the game is running smoothly, if they bring down the servers twice a week for the sake of maintenance like WoW did, then I will move on

It is not a good idea to have it on days that are frequently holidays. It also gives staff an extra day to prepare if maintenance is on a Tuesday.
