A quick question regarding client upgrade

Hello everyone, I would ask a quick question about updating: So, what I am curious about is if I have the launcher running, will it automatically refresh and start downloading the updates when available or do I have to manually restart it and check it every once in a while?

I am asking this as if it upgrades automatically, I leave my laptop on while sleeping, so it can update meanwhile (my connection is really bad recently, so it would take a great part of the day to update, this way I could save a couple of hours), or is it pointless?

Thank you in advance!

I'm running the client on a Mac, so things might not be quite the same if you're on a PC. But here goes......

You can set the client to update automatically, but there have been reports from some that this is a bit flaky - certainly mine seems to struggle with auto updates on the Mac. To confirm and/or change your setting, go to "Game Options", which is right in the centre third of the desktop client screen, at the top of the news articles. There aren't many options, so it is easy to see what you need to do.

My client seems to have problems with updating. Customer support showed me that if you click Repair (which you can also do from Options) the game client will communicate with the server, check that all components are the correct version, then download any broken or out-of-date components. (Comment back if you struggle with the repair options - there are some tricks to that).

You should find that for most updates, the downloads are pretty small and won't take longer than about ten minutes (depending on your connection of course - I'm running off of around 2mbps broadband).

    Hope this helps!

If the Launcher is sitting with 'Play' enabled then yes, it gets to know (somehow) a patch has been made available and downloads it unattended, one of my two games PCs did that this morning (EU).

I went to fire it up an found I'd left it running last night and the EU patch was being downloaded already. :)

I had mine up and running as well this night, but no update, and when you need to download 2,5 GB og a 500 KB/s connection its sad that things like that dont work as they suppose too...

Thank you everyone for the answer! I also checked it and the game didn`t update automatically while running the launcher. However, I got lucky for my roommate woke me up so I just clicked "Find Updates", as @agegarton also suggested, and the update was already available, so I started downloading! 76% at the moment.

Back on topic, it seems it is random whether the client will check for updates automatically or not, I hope we can set it in an option in the future.

    Thanks!

My connection is kinda bad recently, luckily I managed to download the game so far with 400ish kb/s, but i often get times with 3k ping and 0.20 MBPS connection speed which is kinda bad. I am also supposed to get a new connection next week, 16MPBS, which should be enough (if stable) for me and my roommate :D

Funny that you mentioned, I'm also expecting BT to be installed tomorrow, on Thursday, but it's only 16mb/s but still a lot better than my current one(talktalk) which dies and slows down constantly. I just wonder why they send the modem out the same day the mechanic comes to install it, he might come early and the modem is nowhere near. -.- I just hope that won't be the case.
