Hireling Mail

What determines the level of materials received by the hirelings? Is it character level or crafting level?
  • garrodben_ESO
Material type is determined by skill points in the primary skill for the tradeskill.

If you have 30 blacksmithing, but only 1/9 in the first skill, your only getting Iron Ore.

For Blacksmith/Woodworking/Clothing, the # in Hireling skill determines how many pieces you get (3 for 1 point, 4 for 2 points, 5 for 3 points).

Hireling skill also appears to determine how many/quality of additional materials. Though even with only 1 point in Hireling and 1 point in primary skill of the tradeskill, you can still be given gold improvement materials. Its just rarer than 3 points in the hireling skill.

Well it was different before the patch today. It was by char level not by skill level. I have on some chars now iron ore where i got before dwarven ore. I want those skill points back if they really changed it.

Geez. I wish I knew that before. My main has been blacksmithing rank 50 forever and 3/3 hireling but only 7/9. No wonder I've been getting galatite ore and very rarely any good improvements from the hireling. So putting it to 9/9 as soon as I log in next.
V14 Templar Argonian Healer, V12 DK Orc Tank, V2 Sorcerer High Elf DPS, V1 Templar Breton DPS, V1 Nightblade Bosmer DPS, and 3 low levels.

Odd that. As for me it was always skill level, not character level. Are you sure you're not getting confused by the character's skill level you had chosen to open your hireling mail? As now it depends on the character's skill level that has the hireling.

Agreed, I always got mats higher than my char level because I already put a point into next tier crafting.

At the moment I am Veteran Level 2, Level 36 Clothier, craft skills maxed allowable for that level. Today I received one Manganese. What a waste of skill points... can I fire my 3/3 hireling?

It was always decided by skill, you'll receive the highest material type your character can work with. You were just opening you alts mail on your main. Now your alts are getting the mats they deserve.

Ironically I am still generally getting more improvements from my 21 - 1/1 wood, metal, cloth hirelings than my 3 - 3/3 ones on my main. Since they went to the new system, on my blacksmith 3/3 I've gotten 1 racial stone in each of the last 3 bags (well mails now, since bags are gone).

My alts are all 3-10, my main is vr4 w/ 50 metal, wood, cloth and maxed in everything but eagle eye, and the ones for the other two.

In my Opinion after the last patch Hirelings are Not good anymore just a waste of Skill points. Since one is getting the same mats that one can find in the world. Really!!! Why getting just 5 Voidstones when I can farm that in less than 5 minutes.

BTW: My crafter is already vet and is Lv 50 in 4 different crafting; Blacksmith-clothing-woodworking and provisioner all of them already maxed out.

My hirelings routinely present me with just three units of wood or ore. Seriously? That's a day's work? I realise that ZOS are trying to balance against those players who have 7 alts doing nothing but creating these hirelings but all it ends up doing is nerfing the game for the rest of us who try to play the game "properly" and not min/maxing the automated harvesting mechanic. As it stands I can replicate the use of a skill point by harvesting myself for about 30 seconds. This is not good game design as it stands.

The items I have been getting are much worse than before and not just on the non crafting characters. Right now I am regretting the points I spent for hirelings on my crafters just as much as on alts I didn't level crafting on. I know random is random but I am not even getting hemming or honing stones let alone the higher quality tempers. Anyway it seems like a pretty big nerf to me.

I am getting better stuff from my 21 - 1/1 mules than my 3 - 3/3's on my main...

I have had at least one of my 3/3 hirelings deliver 5 ore/wood/cloth and nothing else in each of the last 5 shipments.
