What Does Set Destination Do?

I've been playing for ages but I've never figured what the Set Destination option on the World Map does and in-game help and Googling it has yielded nothing.

I click Set and a blue diamond appears on the map but the only interaction with it I can find it to Remove it.

For the life of me I can't figure it out.

It's exactly what it sounds like. You set a destination, which then appears on your compass.

That diamond will show up on your compass, follow it to reach the "Set Destination"

Enter a big city for the first time. Open map to see where the bank is located inside the city. Set destination. Follow the blue diamond marker. Voila, you're at the bank

It's useful for destinations that wouldn't otherwise show up on your compass, but the above is probably the only use I get out of it.

So it's no more than a map marker?

Being called a destination in the context of the map being used to select Wayshrines to teleport to that's what I assumed it was for, some kind of personal portable Wayshrine.

Had it been labeled "Set Marker" its use would have been clear.

Its a waypoint, nothing more. Very handy at times and if more people used it, they wouldn't have to open their maps ever 5 seconds.

So you can see each other's waypoints? That's extremely useful. I didn't know that.

It's a personal map marker that will also show in your overhead compass.

Don't underestimate its usefulness for saving an 'I want to come back here, but I'm doing something else right now' kind of point...

Just wish it saved it between logins and more than one would be nice (1-5, different colors...)

Sharable between group members might be a nice feature too. 'Meet me here' would be more beneficial sometimes than a constant 'Follow me' or 'I'll be there in a minute...'

It's extremely useful in Cyrodiil, especially when trying to find your path through the miles gates/bridges.

I use it to chart routes going to my target, but I want to be off road to get crafting materials.
