Would you like to see other mounts but horses in ESO?

  • Quel_Drathon
    No
If "other mounts than horses" does not apply in flying Akatosh mount and respects the lore and feeling of the game sure why not?.

also.. a tame troll (wishful thinking; but it WOULD be awesome :p )
possibly a sort of fleshcrafted flesh atronach? that would probably look really creepy though.

Yeah. Tamriel is big, there must be some kind of mount you can ride. :)
Everybody has a horse.. There's nothing unique about it..
    Some ideas:
    Guar
Dwemer spider (like the ones in dungeons, just big enough to mount. It could for an example drop by the final boss in veteran Darkshade Caverns)
    Daedric horse ?

I voted no but I would have liked other options like Yes but Lore Friendly.
I wouldn't be opposed to a Guar mount but not anything stupid like some other games that I wont mention. Also I think Mounts should be a quest to get your first much like the Warlock quest in Vanilla WoW.

My no vote, like, I think, most others, is not an outright no, just a (very) qualified one. I have no objection in principle to lore-friendly alternative mounts. The trouble is - and I think of the egregious goat mounts in Lotro, for example - that in MMOs it is very hard to restrict ownership and use of mounts to lore-friendly situations.

Guar, for example, can be justified in Morrowind - although (and I openly admit, it's without research and I could happily and easily, indeed probably, be worng) I thought they were used as pack animals rather than mounts - but I don't think it's very likely that you would have seen them in, say, Daggerfall, and at least not in any great quantity.

But you can't restrict them to Morrowind and its immediate environs. So you will get loads of them all over Tamriel. And maybe I'm a natural pessimist, but I find it hard to believe that it will end with guar. Little by little you end up with individually just feasible, but in large numbers wildly improbable, mounts: like the undead or daedric ones already mentioned in this thread (which just from my own personal point of view I would say are not that lore-friendly to anyone but undead or daedric riders, respectively).

And then, before long, the cities look like circus freak shows and I am no longer in a Tamriel that feels like the world I have enjoyed over the course of these few years. So, fearing the equivalent of elves riding goats around Bree, I am apprehensive of the longer-term outcome of expanding the range of mounts.

And you had every right to do so, and I don't begrudge you your fun - it was as much your game as mine! But it does illustrate my concern: that every player finds different things enjoyable, and those things will almost inevitably at times clash. That's the nature of MMOs. And what we want from mounts is no exception to that.

It's not to say that either view is right or wrong. I'm just giving my own view which I encourage everyone to disagree with as they see fit!

I would have been quite happy in LOTRO without goats at all to be honest - even though I used them for mischief. I don't think JRRT ever mentioned the finest bearded race charging round on giant horned hairballs.

i ride dragons in skyrym so.... that should be only possible after a extremely hard quest, nearly impossible. solo only. and so impossible that max level goto be good, no build should make it easy.

    it should stay rare

even if im not good enough to get it a dragon should be rare

No little pony? how DARE you? If there are horses, there are ponies! And we like ponies. My Argonian is scared of heights, horses are too tall. :)

I think there are five canon forms of mounted travel in Elder Scrolls:

    - Horse
    - Dwemer airships (Redguard)
    - Silt strider (Morrowind)
    - Unicorn (Oblivion)
    - Dragon (Skyrim)

I wouldn't be opposed to more, as long as they are lore friendly.

But you know ... something more than just horses would be nice.

And for all that is sacred , add shadowmere with the dark brotherhood!
That would be kinda weird if suddenly everybody rides on the same (unique) mount. It worked well in Oblivion and Skyrim but for an MMO, generic mounts are better imo. Having unique, named mounts available for all is not really lore friendly.

We already have three types of mounts: horses, Argonians, and Khajiit. ZOS just hasn't made two of them rideable yet.

For the love of god please NO. It is already bad enough that people put horses in buildings to kill everyones immersion, imagine a mammoth. I personally would love to see them limit mounts to outside of towns and once inside towns you have to stable the mount.

Plus I hate the fluffy bunny mount crap that other MMOs do. Keep it lore specific and keep it making sense, none of the hundred diferent ridable bears, mammoths, rabbits and so on..

Orsimer would ride battle bears into combat. In fact, the stable npc in Wayrest mentions that he occasionally gets bears from Orsinium. It would be safe to assume that bears and guars will be added as mounts in Due time. Perhaps others as well, I would have to refresh myself on some more of the older lore.

Although, as a few have posted interest in dragon mounts, dragons have no mention of being around at the point in time ESO is taking place. Alduin won't show up to resurrect them for a very long time.
