Thanks for wasting my time, ZOS

Trying to level up Undaunted for the last two characters and thought I do pledges and missing dungeon quests. I mistakenly used the dungeon finder and queued to Blessed Crucible. Got in and... the group was already past the first boss. I guess someone quit and I am the replacement. What this did now was:
1. I could not pick up the quest. No 25 undaunted for me. No skill point.
2. I could not complete the pledge and collect 100 undaunted because even after killing the final boss, I still have this:

Great coding. Thanks. Give a bonus to your QA team.

That was absolute waste of time.

Shouldn’t this be “Thanks for wasting my time, group that lost a member and opened up the queue for another member after already defeating the first boss?” This has happened to me on occasion too, and when I pop into a group halfway through the dungeon already, I respectfully apologize and say I have to do the full run for the quest and drop back out. I do agree there should be better ways for us to get credit in situations like this so this doesn’t have to happen.

Not the fault of the group for using the tools provided to them by ZOS. Of course that function should exist. But I should still be able to pick up the quest and complete the pledge if I join half-way via finder. The finder should help you, not punish you randomly for something that someone else did.

Also, usually if you go to the dungeon again, the pledge resets. This time not. I queued again, got in and once we did the first boss, my pledge was ready. So if I were that kind of a person, I could have just dropped out there and leave the others to deal with a missing player. Which would have meant the next person getting in can't finish the pledge and has to queue again... and then the next one...

But anyway, those were nice guys so I stayed until the end.

Maybe something like they have in trials where the last boss drops a quest starter item & you just use it at the end, the only problem with this concept is if you are a new player you completely miss the whole quest but for new chars that have already done the on other chars it's great.

Omg end of the world right there.

Quests should've been fixed to advance in base game dungeons as they do in dlc dungeons.
But I guess no time to go do simple fix like that since base dungeons generate no profits really.

don’t understand why they won’t change the Undaunted quest requirements for old dungeons to work like newer ones — simply complete the dungeon.

I haven't done a single dungeon quest in almost a year since whenever I try to read the dialogue it feels like I'm holding back the entire group. It has happened to me that I join a group midway or they skip an optional boss, in that case, I just queue again, it's not a huge deal, takes maybe 10-15 minutes to finish a dungeon

This is the precise reason that I stopped doing PUG Undaunted pledges from the base game. It's not worth my time to risk running them multiple times just for 2 keys.

BTW - My personal "record" is having to run a single dungeon 4 times to complete a pledge. I joined at the 2nd or later boss three times in a row before getting a fresh instance.

    (1) I can't imagine why anyone would drop out of a group during Blessed Crucible, unless they got kicked.

    (2) I solo Blessed Crucible all the time, at least on Normal. I tried soloing it on Veteran once, but couldn't clear the final boss due to issues I was having with blocking.

    (3) If you're on PCNA or PCEU, send me a whisper sometime and I'll duo it with you.

having more than a couple of chars aand pulling a base game dungeon for a vet daily like blessed crucible is good enough reason to leave group at the start of the dungeon if your group looks all high cp. if i pull a base or vet dlc i usually stay if theres low cp chars or looks as though they could genuinely use a hand, like ly the hand is not due to much skill of mine but because our chars are so overpowered now an experienced player can rocket the chances of a clear to 99% from what may have been a failed attempt, however in base alone i just feel as though i am getting in the way since everthing is going to melt

The first boss was already done and the group was already clearing the yard before the second boss. So I would think the player left after the first boss. Could be many reasons. Network issues, it was late and they had to go, anything, really.

Sure, I like soloing dungeons, too. But this is one of the two last toons I need to level up some skill lines. Got Undaunted from 7 to 8 yesterday. Two more levels to go and then it's the last one. These don't really have good builds yet, so I just slapped on some healer gear and went healing. (Had Symphony in the bank, reconned purple SPC and PA.)

Thanks. But I managed to do the pledges in the end. Started to be a bit desperate since I have work in the morning and it was getting late. Anyway, not much left. Need to get Undaunted from 8 to 10 with this one and then the last one has Undaunted 7.

.... oO!? Was this really the first time this has happened to you? Impossible....

This happens all the time in all kinds of dungeons.
The quest will bug because players skip the entire dungeon.
The quest will bug because we kill the boss too fast.
The quest will bug because the server is online.
The quest will bug because it's a ZoS quest.

This is old. This is not new. This is ESO. This is history. This is... part of the game already. This has always happened, and it always will. If anyone ever fixes this, the servers will probably die.

Yes. For me this is a new issue since this week has been the first time ever I pug pledges.

Fair enough. Well, don't get too sad, and prepare yourself to deal with it many, many more times.

surely i have tens of thousands of as a single player joining the group finder queue, how is it even possible this is first time ? how did you learn and then do all your dungeons ? myself i must have spend a good 4 years doing just normal content before moving onto vet also, then 2 vet non dlc and 1 nomal dlc pledge, then all 3 vets then HM's and challengers done, trifectas suck a bit but i got some done with the random groups too
i wold love to say clicking the queue button across 8 classes of roles and chars each day was all fun and parties but cannot and its not unusual for that to happen in any of the dungeons being added half way through or at last boss
wont be for much longer though cannot really postpone max cp too much longer then its all over, only pledges with mates left
would just like to add random queue as a solo player is not bad you'll meet lots of people doing the same thing everyday, atleast thats how it worked in EU for the past 8+ years, lately its like in some, hey, we grouped alot or heya Dao

Easy, I didn't even know what pledges were when I started and joined a guild early on - still part of it. Never done pledges with pugs before.
    Daoin wrote: »

When I started ESO with no MMO background, I treated this like any other Elder Scrolls game, a single player experience. Learned to solo early base game dungeons. Then joined a guild and learned the dungeons with guild members.

I was pushing myself early on. I was already soloing dungeons before CP300. Then, with the help of the guild I learned a lot. My first vet trial was the then new DSR.

Apropos, a funny story. I was brand new in the game, managed to solo some of the early base game dungeons, wasn't sure about all this MMO stuff. Then, in the guild I just joined, I signed up for normal Hel Ra Citadel - I had no idea what trials even were. So while in Craglorn I noticed the entrance to HRC. Hm, might as well see what it's like so I don't make a fool of myself when I play with others. I was stuck at the first boss when a friend/guildie whispered me and asked "excuse me but what the eff you think you're doing in there?" I told him I wanted to check what this trial is like before I join it for real with the guild. And told him I am having a bit of trouble with the first boss, the start goes well but at some point I will just run out or resources and die. He told me to get out of there, it is not designed to be soloed, but to be completed with 12 players. That explains why the first boss seemed a bit tough.

Yup, if I pug it's because I am either doing a quick RND for the transmutes - possibly with multiple characters, or I am farming dungeon sets running the same dungeons over and over and don't want to subject any friends or guildies to that kind of grind. Other than that, I very rarely pug. Maybe a trial to farm perfected gear, but even that quite rarely. I mostly play with guildies (or solo).

for me because i was lured at first by the thought of two damage dealers one healer and and one tank randomly grouping up any time of the day without relying solely on a guild (although it was through guilds i did also manage to learn the ropes too), then after a while i had played with people of all levels, skill and classes from all over the world and as suc it was also a way to help me improve my own game and find the way i wanted to play too
i truly do dislike voice chat, so it was the perfect scene to enjoy doing that kind of stuff, i learned to listen in the end to some guilds and stuff though but rarely like to chat
edit: i a perfect world discord live chat in groups plaing eso would only be used to blare out peoples lates track lists :)

So now you know how undaunted pledges work and how quests work:

They give credit when you complete all what is required for completition.

Yet, the requirements vary: iirc DLC pledges only show something like "complete the dungeon" or "kill the BBEG", and also the quests only require you to return it at the end. No extra hoops to jump through, no punishing the player for what some other player did.

The base game dungeon quests are still broken in many cases, although many have been fixed. And the base game pledges' requirement for each boss makes base game pledges stricter and punish the player for other players' mistakes, while the more difficult DLC dungeon just needs a completion. Makes absolutely no sense.

Find a few friends to play with, or accept the risks of playing with randoms.

That's how MMOs work. You can't patch/prevent/avoid everything when it's about other players. And blaming ZOS for that is really unfair.
