Yet again the UK are getting maintenance on a Public Holiday
Why can't ESO get calendars relevant to their subscribers

Updates are done when we are working, and are factored in relation to our work. We do try our best to avoid these situations when possible, but they are not always avoidable. We'll take this back to the team for their future consideration.

I checked the days on which there is no holiday anywhere, in any country, region or culture, worldwide. Here's the list:

There actually are a few traditional celebrations on that day. If there's no February 29 in a year, they'll be celebrated on February 28 or March 1 instead.

I'm pretty sure even if ZOS took into account calendars of their subscribers they'd still be looking at the countries with the highest population of subscribed players.

I can't expect them not do maintenance during Polish public holidays lol.
There are like what? 1000 of us on the EU server?

Like Syldras have said - there's always a public holiday somewhere in the world everyday.

UK players are as bad as the PVP'ers sometimes. The game is made in the USA therfore goes by holidays that are celebrated in the USA. ZeniMax Online Studios is based out of Hunt Valley (Cockeysville), Maryland which means Eastern Time Zone maintenance windows. It has always been like this since inception. End of story.

It’s a global game with global players. The maintenance windows should be moved on a rotating basis. If it’s made in USA why is it sold and marketed globally? @ZOS_Kevin

Surely the maintenance windows should be at the companies choosing, at a time that suits their schedule, to allow them to work on it as they see fit.

    Crazy idea I know.

Surely thinking about your players, (yeah remember us?) should suit the companies goals ??
    Even more crazy right?

There was a time when ZOS would do maintenance and ONLY announce a start time.
No end time, no duration, no estimate.

I campaigned for a few months saying that every other game, company, bank etc announces an ESTIMATED DURATION.
They quietly agreed and ever since then we have maintenance ESTIMATES.
    Search the threads.

    Crazy idea I know.

And extremely foreing to a lot of people that think the company will change their entire schedule cause they throw $10 at the game every month.
Maintenance schedule for a company being the topic to complain about now wasn't on my bingo card tho.

ZOS follows american business calendar and that's all there is to it.
Whenever they market globally or locally makes no difference.

If ZOS says there's a maintenance on Monday, there's maintenance on Monday.

They have their own internal roadmaps, schedules, routines and so on.
It sucks if it's not aligned with our own, or expectations for that matter, but such is life.
Not everything in it can and will align.

Honestly, the more I read the forum posts about how ESO is dying or ZOS is not listening, the more I realize people often forget ZOS is a game dev company, not a personal wishing well.

It is simply not feasible for them to avoid every holiday in every country, sorry. It's a US based company, it's not shocking at all that they primarily follow a US based calendar. The following Monday is a major federal holiday in the US, which likely further limited their flexibility in this instance. But any maintenance time that is chosen is going to be inconvenient for somebody, period.

At least a cm responded and perhaps they can take this into consideration next time, but there is no schedule they can possibly come up with that would be satisfactory to every player (not to mention the employees themselves).

I don't live in the US myself and maintenance times aren't convenient for me either. However, I do think that it's ridiculous to expect a company based in another country to follow my local holiday schedule.

What would be the impact of start maintenance later by a few hours for example?

This doesn't seem like a big deal for US players if you play at normal times during the day, but for EU players it is annoying because maintenance is till almost 7-8 PM, which is when most people usually would get on after school or work

And I can only imagine if you're unemployed and have to do something else for almost 8 hours

Maintenance always has been set on Mondays and Tuesdays, it's not a new thing nor a surprise, and there's no holiday on August 31th here in France, so I don't care about a few hours without TESO.
It's not a drug and I'm not an addict, I can live without it. At the end of the day it's just a game, chill.

As other players have said it, there are holidays somewhere in the world basically everyday. It's hard not to annoy anyone with these maintenance days and I prefer a minor inconvenient rather than no maintenance at all.

Well according to some vocal members - its an american game and should only consider american players - no other country matters, including their holidays
funny how the game caters for many languages, currencies for crown store etc etc

Yes, The Elder Scrolls is a global franchise played and sold worldwide, with millions of copies sold across multiple continents.

There are more American players than there are players in any other singular country. Maintenance on American holidays or during American prime time loses them more players than it does during a holiday in another country. I know that sounds unfair, but welcome to capitalism, where decisions are based on what makes the most money, not what makes the most people happiest.

Besides, catering to global money doesn’t always mean catering to global customers’ desires.

ok fair enough - but moving the window even once in a while may be possible. I even think it has been done before.

I think it's better if maintenance is as predictable as possible. It sucks for those of us that it impacts the most (I'm one of them, maintenance usually starts around the time I'm most likely to be playing!) but at least we know what days it's likely going to be if there is any that week. If they suddenly throw in a Thursday maintenance then that would throw me entirely off.

The fact that it happens to be on a day that there's a holiday where you live is unfortunate, but as people have pointed out, is going to happen to someone. If they picked a time that is better for you, but the middle of the night where the devs are located, they'd have to be paid more and it would be harder for them to schedule. It's not even really about where the most players live, it's about where the developers live.

but it seems they start at 4am at the local time of devs right?
So couldnt they start 6 hours later at 10am, stil being in the business day?
Also, is it really devs doing maintenance ?

I wouldn't be surprised if maintenance was the occasion for devs to do something else in the meantime. It's not like they just put the game on stasis and wait a few hours, there's still work to do.

They're certainly not working on the live version of the game.

America-only and America-first are two very different things. Nobody said "no other country matters". Grasping this is important in other areas too.
