As an beta tester in 2014, I must share some hard truths about the current state of the game.
I am writing this out of deep respect for the Elder Scrolls franchise, but the underlying core
issues cannot be ignored anymore.
1. Combat Design Feels 30 Years Outdated:
I have consistently given feedback since the 2014 beta that the combat loop feels
extremely antiquated and rigid. The over-reliance on animation canceling (LA weaving)
and rapid button mashing feels less like modern action and more like an archaic retro game.
2. The Loss of Objectivity in the Veteran Community and Build Dependency:
Due to a decade of stagnation, the veteran community has become completely
desensitized to this outdated gameplay. The culture is rigidly obsessed with
numerical optimization—such as chasing the highest DPS numbers or unkillable
survival parameters. Furthermore, this over-reliance on character builds creates
a meta driven purely by raw stats, which severely hinders the game from evolving.
By focusing entirely on build performance, the development of more dynamic,
environment-driven gameplay and immersive mechanics has been stagnant.
They are missing the bigger picture: the combat loop itself is fundamentally not fun.
3. Flawed Mechanics Alienating New Players:
Certain endgame content features highly counter-intuitive mechanics, where
following on-screen UI prompts (like "Press X") actually results in a wipe unless
players have memorized external guides. This flawed design severely punishes
blind progression. In pug groups, we constantly witness a repetitive cycle where
newcomers make a mistake due to these deceptive prompts, get discouraged,
and leave—causing group fatigue and disbandment.
The storytelling and housing system remain excellent, but the combination of
outdated combat and flawed mechanics is killing player retention and dividing
the community. Please take structural modernization seriously.
