I don't think DK and WW are in a good spot with all the power they have been given and therefore not a good place to bring up all the classes. I don't want ESO to be a game of demigods trying to one shot eachother on the split second their innate invincibility drops. I want combat to be grounded and not just a place where everyone has everything. The fact Sor as a non-reworked class is challenging DK and WW should tell you its way better than it should be if we are balancing for all the classes. Since we are not splitting up reworked classes vs non reworked classes and the refreshes are being delayed so long we absolutely should nerf down DK, WW AND sorc while buffing up the other classes to give level playing field for everyone who would like to play their own class.
Once again, I am of the opinion the level that dk and ww is at is unhealthy and should be toned back regardless. If everything was brought up to that level it would just be like removing the ultimate counter and letting everyone use their ults constantly like a spammable
lol well in ESO we are basically demigods with magical abilities…..
This take is wild btw.
The power of DK and WW is exactly what the game needs, subclassing completely destroyed ESO’s combat because of the power it created. They aren’t rolling back subclassing, so in order to make classes relevant again, they have to buff them. Sorc is a competitor because of class masteries, another vehicle to make classes competitive. The reworks are still coming and who knows, they might rework Streak. But to say Sorc needs nerfed now because it’s “powerful” goes against the overall theme. Everything needs brought up to power, because of subclassing.
Also, game speed has grown greatly, mobility is key now and Sorc just happens to have that in their kit.
The game doesn't need more power creep. The developers have already started bringing reworked class power levels down to avoid creating massive imbalances.
Streak just happens to be one of the abilities that has been massively overtuned for a long time, so it's finally getting the scrutiny it deserves.
The fact that an ability has been strong for years doesn't mean it should be exempt from balance changes. If anything, that's more reason to look at it.
The power creep already happened…… the refreshes are closing the gap, same with masteries (in some cases). You say it doesn’t need more power creep, I agree. It needs balanced to the power creep subclassing created. Which is what the refreshes and masteries are supposed to do.
Yall don’t get it. Sorry, but you don’t. Demand for nerfs left and right, we go right back into the subclass meta. Which was literally the worst year long meta ESO ever had.
I'd take the subclass meta a million times over the DK meta. It's still going to be the DK meta even after the next patch.
Honestly, I think if Streak were adjusted, the CCs would be in a pretty good place for now, at least. It doesn't need to be some massive overhaul—just bring Streak's CC in line with the counterplay that other CCs have.
This mean you’re a warden main?
On topic, Streak is currently the best tool to deal with DKs/WWs. Nerfing it is a buff to DKs/WWs. Quite the conundrum I’d say.
Don't worry, with a 20k stam pool and a 3k cost to the glitchy gap closer you can spam streak out of anyway- werewolf won't be a real issue for you if you're competent.
Come to think of it, with 25% taken off the top of their whip, I really doubt a DK is burning through your shield and health bar in one fell swoop either and these specs are both primarily melee specs...
In other words, praise the Elder Sorcs Online!
This just reiterates what I said…
I don’t have access to PTS so I don’t know how WW is going to look next patch, but I wasn’t in favor of nerfing them either.
DK whips will still rock you (which they should), I don’t need the PTS to know that.
Sustain in general should matter for everything. If we’re picking apart Sorc, y’all should be griping about CoE not streak.
I don't think you understand my post. I'm talking about skill balance, not pure class balance. I'm not arguing about the overall Sorc class or the subclass meta.
I'm specifically arguing that the CC component of Streak should be brought in line with other CCs so it isn't so overtuned. I'm not asking for a mobility nerf—I think the mobility can remain exactly as it is.
The issue is the CC itself is too strong and the lack of meaningful counterplay.
I do understand your post, you’re asking for a nerf to streak. I even commented before with a suggestion. This quote is a response to Wuffy, who stated why streak is so effective against the leading specs in PvP. ie, distance cause they’re both melee specs. Which also answers your question to me about “explaining”. @Wuffy might* have a point about the future state, but that’s the future state, I don’t think it’s healthy to nerf live cause something “could” become more effective.
About the “CC” component of streak, remove that, and you get Ball of Lightning, which is actually more annoying to deal with. Changing it to root/immov instead of CC, will ultimately make it more effective in big fights cause it’s not giving CC immunity, and they already have encase. Caps, we don’t like AoE caps here btw, checks and balances, if you want AoE caps go play Vengeance where they exist but there’s never more than 3 people in there to hit at the same time. Streak is a strong skill, coupled into a class with the strongest masteries, on top of it being a part of the most juiced skill line in the game. You can focus on the “CC” aspect all you want but I really don’t know why, being stunned by streak is not by any means a problem IMO.
You realize most AoE non-ultimate CCs have target caps, right? Streak is one of the very few that bypasses that limitation. I'm not asking for anything unreasonable here—I'm asking for Streak to be brought in line with the limitations that already exist on other CCs.
If roots were really as strong as you're suggesting, people would actually be using Bombard as their go-to CC. They don't. I'm simply asking for Streak's CC to be balanced on its own merits.
Streak has an exceptionally strong CC, even if you completely removed the mobility component. It would still be one of the strongest, if not the strongest, CC skill in the game. The fact that it's attached to one of the best mobility skills only makes the overall package even more overloaded.
Honestly, they should just remove Mines from Dark Magic. Nobody uses that skill, and it would be a perfect opportunity to give Sorc a proper AoE CC that actually has a dedicated role.
Then take the CC component off Streak and replace it with something else. Let Streak be the mobility skill it's already great at being, and give Sorc a separate AoE CC that can be balanced around its CC function.
That would solve the problem without gutting what makes Streak fun or unique.
Does WW fear have a cap? Or DK wings?
You’re dead focused on going the wrong direction.
I don’t know how long you’ve been playing, but taking a meteor streak combo away from the list of options will likely cause riots in the streets.
What is this 2018? Who is still using meteor streak as a combo?

Besides there are plenty of tools that exists for everyone that would still allow you to do a meteor into CC combo.

Yes, both WW fear and DK wings have caps.I would have the exact same complaint about WW Fear if it triggered after using a gap closer that could also be used to immediately escape, or if DK Wings went through block and had a significantly larger radius.
The issue isn't that Streak is a Sorc ability. It's the combination of the CC mechanics and the amount of utility packed into the same skill. I'd make the same argument regardless of which class had it.

Build a Sorc, no Streak and no clutching on non-class systems/skills (remember ZOS balances the classes (mostly) around in-class, interactions, trade-offs and designs) and prove to everyone that Sorc doesn't need Streak.
Go ahead and prove that shields are enough on their own, speed is more than enough without streak, that the CC on Rune Cage is good enough to not need one on Streak. You guys are the ones here making these claims, so go ahead and back them up with proof for the rest of us to see.

Do they actually?

Yes sir, they do. WW fear and DK wings both have 6 person target caps. Go pull a ton of mobs in greenshade or spellscar(the CCable ones) and see what happens.
Edit: Even warden charm has a 6 person target cap.
AoE caps are terrible for the game.
Not the balance approach I’d take for Streak.
As I said earlier, just remove the stun from your initial area, keep the stun on impact, and that will balance the skill out.
It’s that easy.

ah but its ok for dk wings, maybe both should have no cap?

Well I dont hate you lol I think its a good idea, either make it a mobility or a cc not both, and you can replace the cc with a knockback too even like dk wings. Would make more sense to me tbh.
Plus sorc already has crystal frags and rune cage

Wings are still a league ahead of Streak as a mobility skill, in all reality, they both need adjustment. 🤷
No skill should provide 100% uptime on a 50% damage reduction to an entire playstyle either.

Is frags being mentioned because you think its a CC?
The Frags morph has never had a CC, ever. It was the old Crystal Blast morph that had the CC on it and that got deleted many years ago for Crystal Weapon (that doesn't have a CC either).

There is no 100 percent uptime, it lasts six seconds, no one is constantly spamming wings either in their rotation, its unnecessary to even do so, and by the nature of range skills being at range you dont need to constantly cast the skill for 100 percent uptime in the first place.
Actual 100 percent uptime skills have very long duration periods.

How is a skill that gives extra movement speed “a league ahead” of a literal teleport as a mobility skill? Like, you don’t even need to move with Streak. Just press the button and you’re immediately several meters away from your opponent.
@Turtle_Bot Crystal Frag had a stun on proc, Crystal Blast was a cast time AoE… nothing else.
https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/429087/make-crystal-fragments-stun-again
The hardest hitting skills back in the day were all designed to stun, knockback, or interrupt, it was a means to increase the feel of their impact. The only skill that didn’t enjoy the benefit of this in at least one of their morphs, was Snipe, you can still see artifacts of the old design, like Crushing Shock having an interrupt attached to it.
It was a design choice.

Your entire offense window on DK consists of up to 3 GCDs, that’s half the duration of Wings.
Leap and Whip. That’s it.
You just buff, turtle, and wait.
You have all of the time and resources in the world to keep up Wings every 6 seconds. Even before the rework they were insane at countering the Assassination spec bow meta, and even without Core of Flame it was easily sustained on MagDK.
Let’s not play pretend.
50% Damage Mitigation from Ranged Skills when you need it if you’re lazy, and 100% of the time if you’re keeping your buff rotation up properly.
On top of Snare Immunity, AoE Knockback, AoE Stun, Major Expedition, yeah it’s no contest.
Then again, comparing Streak (second best) to Wings (the best) when both are lightning years ahead of every other option.

Wings is a problem, yes. But Streak also has one advantage that Wings doesn't give: when you use it properly you almost never have to really roll and block. I won't entertain sorc players that will try to dispute it, not after what was said in this thread which indicates just that.
That's the reality of it: an overloaded skill that lets you skip mechanics , does damage and interacts with other systems in a way that can stack automated attack and defense, and allows you to forego block and roll.
That's Streak. And that's reality no matter how hard anyone tries to dispute it. It's better than Wings! There I said it!

Agreed.
Also, "Creates distance" is a pretty funny way to describe DK Wings when you're comparing them to Streak. Streak is on an entirely different level ras a mobility tool.
Streak gives you a 15m teleport on demand, can be used offensively or defensively, and can immediately put you out of danger after engaging. Comparing the two as though they provide remotely similar mobility is pretty misleading.
BardokRedSnow wrote: »I’m willing to have a discussion about dk wings and balance same as streak but yea not in the context that wings is better than streak xD so im glad this was finally acknowledged in a more serious conversation, making a diagram to show one skill has more effects when we’re talking about potency is not a serious convo
Like I said before having 20 pennies doesn’t make it more than the dollar bill
It’s not. You can do more harm displacing an enemy than displacing yourself, all while finding more impact in having two skills for evasion baked into one. “Creates Distance” is the intention of both skills, moving forward into streak you will be equal distance away from your target as someone moving forward hitting Wings by the end of your GCD.
Notice how Streak soft roots you when using it, while Wings make up the difference in constant momentum.
Imagine a world where Streak has snare/root removal and Major Expedition. Then we can talk about it being stronger than Wings.
All of that to say, they are BOTH a problem, even though I run Wings on all of my favorite builds, and man… the blue wings look incredible on my Vampire, I can own the fact that the skill is doing too much.
I’ll likely make an entire thread about it at some point, rather than derail this one.

Did you think it would be surprising that in a “nerf Sorc” thread, people would push back on an idea that undermines their position of Streak being the worst of the worst?
Wings are a 2.0 skill while Streak is a 1.0
These class reworks have inserted power into each skill, something that Streak has not had the benefit of. It is only logical that a skill that has more power budget, is stronger than a skill that has less.
And don’t get too excited, I might not even make the thread, as I’m enjoying Wings… a lot.
I’ve got a whole montage of throwing entire teams off of ledges in Battlegrounds. 🪽

So a 1.0 skill is more powerful than the 2.0 skill. That should tell you something.
