  CC is Crowd Control, like stunning, trapping, freezing....etc.
  AoE stands for Area of Effect, a spell or ability that affects anything in the designated area on the ground.
  DPS stands for Damage Per Second. It's the average of the damage you do during a fight.
  DPS can also stand for the role your character plays. Example: DPS, Tank or Healer.

  HPS - Heal Per Second
  DoT - Damage over Time
  HoT - Heal over Time
  
  Root - A specific form of CC that immobilizes the enemy.
  Burst - comes from "burst damage" which means "how much can you do before running out of magicka/stamina/whatever" as opposed to sustained damage.
