For the Class and Combat refresh, we are targeting 2027 for the next refresh. However, we are discussing some interim options for the classes still awaiting their full refresh to improve your player experience in the meantime.

Ah, ok, so that explains the lack of Warden mentions earlier.

Thanks for the update. I understand and respect the need for delay; just wish it hadn't come to this in the first place.

So no new trial is payment back and class refreshes are dramatically scaled back until 2027. Unfortunately we know why, but it's still disheartening. Especially for Warden mains who were looking forward to being next and getting their stuff delayed until next year...

DK and WW is the meta for the rest of the year...

The trial delay is a real sting. as a trial GM, I can keep members interested for 12 Months between trials, re-run farm gear etc. 18 Months between trials? I suspect we'll lose a LOT of members :(

The night market trial doesn't count as doesn't offer that replay ability or easy access. (but I did enjoy it).

    Thank you for the information.

The idea that the refreshes are being pushed back that far though is very disappointing. I understand that things are difficult, but the balance of the game is in a disastrous state, and leaving it part-finished only exacerbates the existing problems.

Combat and Class balance is something that affects all facets of the game, from the most casual of overland questing to hypersweaty PvP. Leaving that to languish for any length of time will only serve to drive more and more people away. This is especially obvious from the recent surprise Vengeance test - Vengeance as it currently is was running fine and had a population that enjoyed it as is, so the Combat Team taking time away from the Refreshes to focus on modifying that mode (especially in a way that removed what its main userbase enjoyed to try in vain to entice a userbase that wants nothing to do with it) seemed like a case of skewed priorities.

In addition, we had confirmation that new features for Combat (e.g. the addition of new Skill Lines) was on hold until the Refreshes were finished, which makes sense. However, over the past year, we have seen several examples of other MMOs releasing new Classes, which is always a driver of more engagement (much more so than forced FOMO). With the Refreshes being delayed, that also then delays the release of any potential new Classes - we were already considering that a new Class would not be possible until 2028 at the earliest (making it 5 years since Arcanist, which would be the longest gap between new Classes releasing), and now that is likely to be an even longer gap.

I understand the hardships the team is now facing, but there is nothing this game can do that is more important than finishing the Class Refreshes in a timely manner. And until they are done, every single thing the game releases, particularly if it comes from the Combat Team, will always come with the question of “why did they prioritize this over the Refreshes?”

I would also like to request that the Combat team be more willing to communicate. The other Teams had wonderful communication over the past few months, and we all were interested in seeing the updates on the DevChat streams and the increased interaction from the PTS made it feel like we were valued as players. Unfortunately the Combat Team has not gotten on board with that increased level of communication, and now we know most of the other Teams Leads were caught in the reorganization. We are hoping that the communication level is not one of the things sacrificed going forward.

I have such mixed feelings. Bittersweet news for me for sure. I was really looking forward to the new trial and I have been feeling the pain points of the classes who haven't been reworked that I enjoy a lot lately. On the flipside I am relieved to hear that Eidetic fixes and antiquties QOL are still on the table and happening (especially since the new content added to the pile of bugged books again) and I have been looking forward to Nowhere Vault and Rumors since they were first announced.

Edit: nevermind I reread and whoopsied on my ask. There's a lot of info here and I'm getting it to several places and my brain just missed it.

Thank you again for the update. I know y'all are going through a lot right now and trying your best.

it is nice that this post has some dates months in advance and new images for 2026 and Season 1.

Good that you make it clear you are still working on the things you announced like Class Refresh and a Skyrim zone.
I did not doubt it, but i have seen others doubt it.

i hope the Warden Refresh is in update 53 and i am looking forward to what those interim options might be for i assume update 52.

Thanks for providing details about the rest of the year and what you know about 2027. I'm glad the solo dungeons are still a go. That's one feature I've been looking forward to. As a warden main, I have mixed feelings about the warden rework being delayed. I don't PvP, so the delay doesn't affect me that much. It's more that I wanted to see whether what I enjoy about the class would be changed (or even eliminated), but I'm here until at least February anyway (when my ESO+ is due to expire), so I can wait for those details.

An antiquities-focused GP, the updates to tome challenges, and making crates earnable in more ways all sound good. I'm also looking forward to the new rumours system.

As usual, what actually happens will count more than words, but right now I feel a little more optimistic about where things are going.

While I know a LOT of people will be disappointed in Warden being pushed back so much (and the rest of the reworks also more than likely getting a big delay, though we'd have to see; maybe we'll get Warden and Sorc together?), it's better for things that need more work to be given the time they need to be done properly. I'd say this is a good sign they want things to be done right, instead of trying to rush out something half-baked to appease people wanting stuff immediately.

Also remember they were saying the PTS needed to be pushed back initially for "polish" relating to "what everyone was asking about in chat". For the Warden, I doubt the layoffs had a lot to do with it being initially delayed. It was already seeming to have difficulties before the layoffs happened, and once they did those difficulties likely did get compounded and they need more time now to work them out. The layoffs aren't the cause of the Warden delay, I'd wager, but have 1000% impacted by it.

I am curious about what other things they're going to be discussing in terms of balance until then, though. Maybe allowing Classes that haven't gotten their rework to have 3 Class Masteries? Maybe just doing a rework on Passives for the time being?

ETA There is something I have an issue with and don't understand:

    statement.png

Why are we being told things we knew were coming since last PTS, since WAY before the layoffs and everything, are being released for our "patience"? Literally none of this was stuff that was come up with AFTER the layoffs and in light of things being delayed, except MAYBE for the 3-team BGs coming back? Though I doubt that, it's also probably been something in the works since before the layoffs.

Why was content we already knew for months was coming (most of it anyway) now being marketed as something that's being released/added as as a thank you? It doesn't make any sense.

Leaving DK and WW meta in PvP till 2027 is not a good idea. I get that you guys had to push everything back and reschedule but at least nerf them or buff other classes in the meantime because right now PvP is just unfun unless you play a DK, WW or DoT-sorc.

I'm just saddened where the game and studio is right now.

Most of what's promising for me personally is being pushed out. That means my engagement is being pushed out. That's just where we are, you know. Some of the upcoming content sounds interesting - the High Seas and Straight to the Crate events and the Nowhere Vault system. Seeing the drop rates of Nowhere Keys makes me really hesitant though. I just hope it's rewarding. So far this year, I'm not confident in that. Seems like RNG is still an issue, along with scarce rewards.

The Warden thing's really bothered me. It's fine that it got pushed out, I'm not upset about that. But I am just upset by the lack of transparency on it. That's my main class, so it's something that I absolutely want transparency on and not wait months and months for scant information. We had great communication with the DK refresh, not sure why we can't have that here. I really don't appreciate how weirdly that's been treated.

In any case, hope you guys finding your footing.

Talking about "throwing in some thank yous for your continued support": I totally understand that big gestures are out of the question, but what about the "mini thank yous" we got over the years and that were totally absent for more than a year now, like explorers event, double gold weekend, or even a free Eso+ week? Those take no effort to add and were always going a long way to please players and enjoyed by many. Not continuing them feels like a business decision to me, I just doubt it's a smart one.

Good to hear the new PVP zone is releasing in January, that is at least something to look forward to. Fingers crossed it is well designed and worthwhile to participate in.

Hearing the news about the reworks is tragic, and has serious implications for the future of the game. These reworks NEED to be the number one priority for the studio. The game is currently in an unfinished state where DK and WW are so far ahead of everything that it isn't even fun to think about playing other classes. Delaying these reworks is going to SERIOUSLY harm your playerbase in both the short and long term.

Between this and the trials being delayed, it really feels like the studio is signing off on ESO's endgame. Sad to see, especially since it had felt like the game was on an upwards trajectory for the first time ever this year.

How do you have the same amount of devs that you had from Orsinium-Summerset after the layoffs (as reported by your own), you're not pushing out Chapters that seemingly take 2 years, yet we're still having so much delayed? Honestly, if you gonna bring back 3 team BG`s, you NEED to give us how it was when BG`s released. Give us the option to pick the mode we want to play. I absolutely dread to play objective modes with 3 teams. It´s absolutely horrible and anti-PvP where you´re rewarded for avoiding the other teams and not fighting. As much as people cope on 2 team BG´s, the objective modes was 100x better because you actually had to engage with the other team and PvP.

Thank you for the update. It confirms what we've suspected, that class refreshes are slowing down, ESO continues for the foreseeable future, and hints again at more Skyrim content coming up. All good. I'm curious about the interim options as we await our class refreshes.

I do hope we will hear more about this sharing of responsibilities between ZOS and BGS, and what it means tangibly for future content and things like bug-fixing, but that's probably still being worked out atm.

Class refreshes need to be top priority.

You cannot let Dragon Knight and Werwolf run around as strong as they are while all other classes suffer from this.

As you clearly won't release the refreshes in an acceptable period of time, you need to nerf Dragon Knight / Werewolf or implement some kind of blanket debuff until all other classes have been brought up to their levels.

I had this question too. As with all the other updates, I get that things are getting pushed back. But originally NM was slotted to return this year, and now it's not even mentioned through Season 2 and Update 52.

I agree with others that the class refreshes are super critical work to finish. I'd just be curious to hear the plans for content that was previously-announced. The whole schtick with NM was that you couldn't get all the rewards in one go, you'd have to wait for it to come back. So just curious to know where that's landed in the plans.

Why are we dooming when the letter literally states the game isn't going into maintenance mode? What about a delay to make sure something is done right mean they're "signing off" on anything? Would you rather them push out something before it's actually ready just so it can be said that it was released, the state of it be damned? The letter also states plainly they're looking into other ways to do stuff in the meantime, but we just ignore that part to make it seem like they're completely ignoring anything to do with Classes for now, I suppose.

And why are people assuming the reworks AREN'T a top priority? Just because things are taking longer doesn't mean they aren't focusing on things, but people also seem to think everyone working in a game studio can just be thrown onto X thing or Y thing. That's not how it works, though. The people who design levels would not be able to work on balancing. The people who work on art would not know coding. I'm sure there ARE people who could be moved to the team working on the refreshes, but they can't reroute everyone to working on a single thing.

    Thank you for this update.

Totally understand that you have to change schedules & priorities after what has happened to ZOS; it must be hard working there at the moment.

And I’d rather wait for stuff than get it half-arsed.

Some may be annoyed or disappointed about certain things, especially the Warden refresh, but again, do it well rather than fast is best. (Re: pvp dk/ww meta - there’s always a meta. Just work out how to counter. Though if the devs are reading this might suggest bringing back poison susceptibility?!).

And if you are looking to add mounted combat to a trial, then take as long as you like! As long as I can bring my war mammoth!

But thank you. And hope things get easier.

1 rework a year will hammer the final nails in the coffin in for the balance of the game.

As it stands - at the bare minimum we need class masteries removed from reworked classes, as well remove WW ability to benefit from non-WW class masteries. Class masteries were introduced as a way to bridge the gap between reworked and unreworked classes, so it makes absolutely no sense to give them to the reworked classes, further raising their power floor.
