***SPOILERS*** new thieves questline question

I've completed the new story. How was Koldane able to stay one step ahead of us? I know the warehouse guy betrayed us, early on. But how did Koldane have access to the same info we had, when we had the Codex. Did someone else betray us? Maybe I missed something like a dialog option. I was expecting a Scooby Doo "I would have gotten away with it ..." moment during his arrest at the end, but he said nothing.
Anybody know?

I'm iffy on the details but wasn't it hinted at that
Abrasia was helping him after taking off with our key?
I don't remember it being mentioned in dialogue but that's the idea I got,
since she was at the Vault with Koldane and his gang

It was written off as "Koldane has vast unimaginable resources, he probably found another source". I was rather disappointed with that part of the story.

He feels very underdeveloped unfortunately IMO, I never got his motivation or anything apart from "He exists so the plot can exist"

I'm not sure how explicitly it was stated before you got to the final showdown with him, but the items in (and on the way to) the Nowhere Vault had/have powers that would have greatly assist a mastermind criminal in pursuit of power and wealth. It's rare for a major villain to have a different overriding motivation from that (although there are examples throughout ES lore)

I'm curious more about the "how" he stayed ahead of us, rather than than the "why" was he after it. I agree that his motivations were similar to ours, but he was always "conveniently" one step ahead. I guess it boils down to "because ESO".

Yeah, I know he was after the Thieve's Moon same as us (and whatever else was in the vault they hinted we will get to see soon) Maybe I'm asking for too much but it would have been nice to interact with him at least once in dialogue, if they could find a way to fit into the story. Like getting to confront Colso in the first questline. They could even use that conversation to explain if they wanted to what OP asked.

As far as the "cookie jar plot" the warehouse guy (Rols) tipped him off, thinking he'd get a better deal than from the TG.

But I agree we didn't see a lot of him (literally, I zoomed in at the end so I could finally see what he looked like).

I was under the impression Koldane had started the quest first, and Quen and the gang (us included) were playing catch-up.. which would turn the question around maybe.. how were we able to find everything so conveniently in order to catch him at the vault... [winky face]

I mean, Quen and her research, but she figured it out rather quickly. If it was that easy, we should have found the vault ransacked and a note from Koldane: git gud

edit: removed obnoxiously large emo and replaced with text
