Class Masteries are a badly missed opportunity for increasing class diversity.

If anyone here played the game before hybridisation, you'll understand why I have two dunmer dps sorcerers. For those who don't know, there used to two metas for each class (magicka and stamina) based on the skill morphs which led to two distinct playstyles. It was a lot of fun.

I think that the class masteries were a wasted opportunity to regain some of the playstyle diversity that used to exist in ESO before hybridisation.

In the first class refresh you had the DK which was traditionally a combination of fire (magicka) and poison (stamina) based damage. The combat devs could have easily made a poison Class Mastery equivalent of Wildfire Embers and put in a restriction that only one of these abilities can be chosen at a time. This could have led to a DK build based primarily around fire damage and another around poison damage. By making the skill morphs (particularly the class spammables) perform differently, it could have seen the return of two distinctly fun playstyles.

Instead, by choosing solely fire, we're going to be back to the post hybridisation days of a single meta per class.

And it even gets worse with the warden. Frankly, we should just rename the class as the Ice Wizard because that is all it will be.
Want to be a wilderness archer like Legolas? Sorry but it's Ice Ice Baby. What about a ranger like Aragorn? Nah, ditch the greatsword and pick up an ice staff because it's Ice Ice Baby!
The ZOS devs could have easily made the animal skill line bleed damage to go with a bleed version of Glacial Obstinance Class Mastery, but stamina warden seems a bridge too far conceptually.

I don't really think stam and magicka divide added much of anything. Because you'd mostly see stam specs of classes in PvP. PvE also had been stam spec dominated save for few classes that had somewhat competitive magicka specs, especially in the upper echelon of the PvE content.

Also, there's nothing really stopping you from picking up bow on Warden.

I beg to disagree, though I'd love to see the directions you've described, I think Class Mastery is reasonably okay as a first step. Looking forward to its refactor in U51, I hope it's not gonna be an abandonware part of the game.
