Need Advice for Building a PvE Healer

I've decided it's time to branch out a bit, and I'm currently wanting to try out PvE healing. I've got a few different classes I can work with, but what I'm looking for right now is more high-level stuff rather than class specifics. So, the questions:

Gear

I have the following partially complete dungeon and trial sets available; which of these would you recommend prioritising for the remaining items?
  • Roaring Opportunist
  • Combat Physician
  • Healing Mage
  • Jorvuld's Guidance

As complementary sets, I can craft most things, and also have Infallible Mage and Master Architect stashed away. What sorts of things do you take into account when selecting between these sets and deciding what to pair with them for the usual 5+5+2 load-out? Any particularly recommended/useful mythics and monster sets to look out for?

Skills

Besides class-specific skill lines, which general lines have useful skills that should be considered? (Mage's, Soul Magic, Fighter's, and Restoration seem like the obvious ones to look at). As a general rule, is it better to build with front bar specifically for healing and back bar for personal survival, or spread things between bars?

Which CP slottable perks would be priorities?

Setup/Approach

Are there any specific UI settings and add-ons that people find extremely useful when running healers? Obviously for trials and more complex dungeon bosses it pays to know the specific mechanics, but what other things should a newbie healer be working on in terms of developing appropriate awareness and skill use?

As a foot note: I'm split between Sorc and Arc for a class, but I do also have Warden and Templar available. I'll probably start with Arc and go from there.

jorvulds is great for a templar healer. unless you want a true yawner of an experience, i suggest you build out your champion points like you would for a dd and use a resto staff ofc but then choose either dual daggers or a shock staff. jorvulds as i said is a great set. maybe pair it with a dd set. remembver that the more damage you can do the more healing you can do. healing is just negative damage. if you below 50 160 you could go all training trait for speedy growth with heartland and kagrenacs or orders wrath. i always use kaggys with the cp quick res until i get the gear i need. one never knows when its useful. also remember that necro has resurrection powers for ult so maybe dual class templar necro

Disclosure that I am an ex-healer main, I am incredibly rusty, so don’t give my words as much weight as an active healer main.

Jorvuld’s then Roaring. Skip Combat Physician and Healing Mage, you don’t need those.

You don’t need Infallible Mage but you do need Master Architect. Generally speaking, you’ll be told what to wear in content. Either directly on the roster or by asking the other support (other healer in a trial, the tank in a dungeon) what they’re running. But to get a sense of common setups:
    - Roaring goes with Jorvulds to maximize the slayer uptime from Roaring. You do not wear Roaring without Jorvulds and you do not wear Roaring + Jorvulds (RO/JO) in a dungeon
    - If two people in the trial can wear war machine or master architect, and the group skill level allows for people to stand in two stacks of 6, then you can be one of those two people. Usually this is paired with spell power cure, martial knowledge, xoryn, something like that… in a dungeon, you can (and should) wear master architect if the tank isn’t wearing war machine
    - You always want a healer in spell power cure… or now, a werewolf. But for dungeons, this means spell power cure is your base set that you then will add an additional 5pc to (master architect or powerful assault)

Very importantly, sets that can be proc’d from a skill cast or a heavy attack should not be your body set. Jorvuld (body), Roaring (ice/lightning/restro— your preference), SPC (either, body easier uptimes), MA (backbar, unless you need to use both your ults, then body or both bars), Pillagers (same rule as MA), etc.

    Tldr;
Dungeon: spc + (depending on what tank brings) ma or pa
Trial: (depending on group) ro/jo or ma+x, used to be spc/pillagers for the other setup but I Don’t Know What’s Happening With That

Monster sets: Nazaray, Ozezan, Symphony, The Blind
You could pick up spaulder with 1pc magma incarnate as well.

Restoration, Destruction, Assault, and Support. Mage’s and Soul can be good for the scribed abilities. I would argue you should level daggers too. I’ve been playing with daggers in dungeons and it works really well, better than lightning would have.

When I was new to healing, I spread things out— I had a burst heal (combat prayer) on front bar and a burst heal (warden mushrooms) on backbar. Helps make sure you can get to a heal quick enough. Mostly, you’ll be limited by your restoration and destruction skills anyway.
Which CP slottable perks would be priorities?

    Enlivening Overflow!!!!!!!!!
I think people use from the brink too but someone always needs enlivening overflow.

There’s a specific tracker for roaring opportunist that’s rather helpful. Also, group buff panels for a lot of buff settings (don’t enable Everything, just whatever you want to track your buffs on at the time— like, I started with showing Major Courage and then removed it later on to free up UI space once I knew my uptimes were good. Less things tracked, less time playing panel simulator). Hodor’s for comparing your ult to other peoples.

I would agree to start with arc and go from there. I don’t hear about sorc healers really and I was a warden healer main and found it incredibly boring, although powerful.

Is the comment about RO/Jo not in dungeons related to the duration and cooldown restrictions of the 5-pc bonus for RO? Or is it something else?

    @FurryCandyHearts:

I'm on console, so a controller is not a problem!

(Removed pings so we don’t get pinged every time it’s quoted LOL)

Roaring isn’t worth the uptime without jorvulds and dungeons need more buff density since there’s only 4 people. You can’t expect there to be a werewolf in a 4-person group and most likely the tank isn’t running olorime, so you have to wear spc.

Slayer sets are more efficient than ro/jo anyway, hence why trial rosters have shifted to having slayer stacks when possible. You don’t need jorvuld without RO (thus opening up a set) and the uptimes with slayer sets can be better, especially if you hold your ult until burst windows (which you should be doing anyway). RO/JO you just heavy attack (twice in a trial) every time it’s off cooldown, so your timing for burst windows could be off. But ro/jo doesn’t need slayer stacks, so it’s better for less organized trial runs.

Don’t play in first person, you do still need to see what’s going on around you.

About the only time I go into first person is those puzzles where you have to turn it to the right icon. Otherwise yes, much prefer to be able to see what's going on around me!

While current meta and game balance provides some buffs that was solely sourced from sets. I can tell that having these sets ready would be good.
    1. Spell Power Cure: Staple Major Courage providing set.
    2. Powerful Assault: Easy to use weapon and spell damage buff set. Proc is smart, which means only goes to people who does not have the buff. Easiest way to proc is using Echoing Vigor.
    3. Roaring Opportunist: Heavy attack procs Major Slayer based on your Max Magicka and Spell Damage, nowadays it is very easy to reach max amount which is 12 seconds.
    4. Jorvuld's Guidance: Increases the duration of damage shields, Minor and Major buffs by %40 so it is often used with sets like Roaring Opportunist.
    5. Master Architect: Major Slayer providing set based on your ultimate points when you cast ultimate.
    6. Pillager's Profit: Grants ultimate to allies over 10 seconds. Not so random group friendly set. This set really shines when everything is optimized to the point of ultimate casts.
    7. Combat Physician: Grants shield to allies on critical healing.
    8. Death Dealer's Fete: While this is a Mythic item that does not provide any healing or benefitial things to the group. It gives you more resources overall.
    9. The Blind: Gives shield to allies on critical healing. You can run this set along with Combat Physician if your group decides to go safe.
    10. Ozezan The Inferno: Monster set that gives allies armor if you overheal or healing taken if you heal them. Basically this set makes group members take less damage.
    11. Symphony of Blades: Sustain providing monster set.

There can be some other sets for some other edge cases as well. I do not remember them now. I usually run five light pieces, one medium piece, and one heavy piece. Heavy piece often goes to Trainee Set, which gives you health as first bonus. So i can get %6 more resources via Undaunted Passive.

For skills i can tell you these basic ones down there. There are of course scribing skills for different purposes for providing shields, buffs and some other stuff like chains. There some content where healer is required to run pull abilities, or even hard taunt abilities.
    1. Restoration Staff: In my opinion first tree skills of this line is the staple skills of all healing builds.
Grand Healing: It is the area healing skill, you can choose either longer morhp or shorter morph. I personally choose longer, so it gives me more time to cast other skills.
Regeneration: This is one of the skills that you can use for sticky healing over time ability. Basically you cast this ability and healing continues to tick on them regardless where they move. I prefer the Radiating Regeneration morph so it goes to three others.
Combat Prayer: Burst heal of Restoration Staff skill line, while it also provides Minor Berserk and Minor Resolve to them.
    2. Alliance Skill Lines: There are some skills in both of these lines. Mainly Aggressive War Horn, Echoing Vigor and Barrier.
Echoing Vigor: In my opinion this skill is very important because it provides 16 seconds sticky healing over time ability to 6 people in your group.
Aggressive War Horn: Provides Major Force and %10 more resources. While Major Force nowadays is provided by an Arcanist healer it is still good to use for %10 more resources.
Barrier: While you can run both morphs here, i prefer the Replenishing Barrier here because it helps with sustain.
    3. Undaunted Skill Line: There is Overflowing Altar and Orb skill from this line is often used by healers.
Overflowing Altar: It gives passive healing to the allies who damages any enemy. Also provides a synergy for healing if their health goes down.
Orb: Both morphs of the Orb can be run by healers, some groups prefer healing for healing and some groups prefer the other morph for damage through synergies.

While building your bars, i often put most of the skills that i mentioned up there, and then put other class skills in. While playing Nightblade healer i put Siphoning ability to at least one bar and some Assassination abilities on both bar to proc class passives. While in Arcanist, i run Chakram Shields and Cruxweaving Armor for Class Mastery procs.

I use some addons to track buffs and other stuff. Buff The Group for example has very convenient ways of tracking certain buffs or abilities on other group members. This addon helped me to keep Echoing Vigor and Radiating Regeneration on group members consistently.

Ah, yes, heck, I forgot Undaunted somehow. Seconding Undaunted for overflowing altar, both orbs, and also inner fire for niche situations.

Buff the Group iirc hasn’t been updated for newer content. You could manually add the content IDs to make it work again or use Group Buff Panels (does the same thing but is maintained).

combat prayer is your best main heal spam skill, because this is best and all class spam heal is not worth use,
    barriar use heal morph
long time(20+sec) hot circle in back bar ,or you slot skill front if you need passive, back bar can use ice/light staff and some time use dual wield for traveling knife(Assassin's Misery or Warrior's Opportunity)
    my dsrhm twin templar build

Jorvald's is actually better on a Warden TBH. Mainly because with Jorvalds, you can have 100% uptime on minor toughness, which is extra HP for the group, which increases survivability - you definitely want to maximize that buff. And for that same reason, you typically pair Jorvalds with Roaring opportunity.

Since you will be heavy attacking a lot to proc Roaring Opportunist, Archdruid Devric is a great monster set to pair with this setup too. Your heavy attacks will proc major vulnerability, which will also get the benefit of your Jorvalds if RO and your monster set proc at the same time. Between this setup and your tank, you should be able to have close to 100% uptime on Major Vulnerability for the group.

For a plar, I tend to run SPC/Olorime, Powerful Assault, and Spaulder's Ruin. Together with Templar Pure-Class mastery, you provide over 1200 extra weapon/spell damage with this setup - though sustain can be a little tricky.
