What Is The Point Of Sets?

Ive never acquired a set in any MMO to be honest. Im aware that they give you stat bonuses and look cool but buy the time the player has had the final piece drop, they have probably out levelled it which is why I have never hunted for them.
While I am here, how do you get them? I have had most pieces drop in public dungeons. Does that mean all the pieces will drop in that dungeon or does one have to be lucky in open world to get all of them? The question is not meant to sound sarcastic. If Im missing something, my attitude may change and I will try to go out and get them.

At VR you most likely won't wear anything that is not a setpiece, except for jewelry maybe. You can craft stuff which grant you 10% extra healing and stuff like additional health / stamina regeneration. There are a lot morecraftable sets, see this list. If you wear 3-piece sets you can use 3 sets at once when not using a two-handed weapon.

World drop sets are less easy to find but at VR you will spend enough time at one level you will be able to complete most. Guild stores help you with this ;-)

I have only completed one dropped set so far and it took 3 toons to find 3 pieces. I have crafted several sets for myself and friends though. Crafted sets are not as powerful, but they are far more flexible because you can choose what items the set is made up of. Don't want to give up that awesome staff or blue shield? No big deal, just craft around it.
