Tome Points and the new weekly objectives

Logged in today, to work on those. Stopped cold when I saw the counts for each objective doubled. So, for rune stones, 15 looted 6 times is now 15 rune stones looted 12 times. Done generally across the board.

This for me, crossed a line. I play ESO EU and NA. So when the ESO devs doubled those counts, it approximately quadrupled for me. Maaaaaybe this would be okay if I only played ESO on EU and NA. But I play alot of other games. No worries, will put ESO on the shelf. Lean more into single player games. Will still log it daily, but not do much beyond that.

They're only doubled if you've unlocked all the Pages. It's basically to help ensure everyone can earn enough Points to buy everything in case they've been away for a majority of any given Season, particularly if you've bought a Tome.

Which is weird imo since if you've bought it you don't have a time limit, and it costs less to buy everything in the Free Tome than it takes to unlock all 12 Pages, but eh.

I suppose part of it is also for people who want to keep earning more Points to get them converted to Gold at the end of a Season.

I do wonder if this is part of their solution to people wanting more repeatables to grind for. People were largely asking for repeatable rewards for non-gold currencies, but it seems like ZOS wants to keep those more regulated.

I also wonder how they’re going to handle this when the next Tome comes out.

If I were to buy the Premium tier of this first Tome, where I’m at the bonus pages, then the bonus page rule says I should get double the weekly challenges. But that would mean double the challenges when the next Tome opens too, even before I reach the bonus pages, unless challenges are kept separate for each Tome. That would bring its own questions about whether buying a Tome effectively unlocks a second set of weeklies to do on a permanent basis.

Were the number of points for each completed "15 resources" also reduced, or was that still the same? If the points per completed stack are the same, increasing the number of times it can be repeated only really affects those who can't bear to see incomplete bars, or who started late and need those extra points.

Yeah they said this will happen on the pre-launch stream for tomes. Since tomes is a copy-paste fallout76 system, this is also done there. It’s designed for people to be able to get all the points for free without spending $ even if they don’t play daily. It’s basically so you CAN play other games too and not feel overwhelmed.

You know, you don’t have to complete them all if you already got all you wanted? 🤷‍♂️

No. Same point-value for each completion, just doubled the possible completions. So a harvesting challenge which might normally be worth 350 points when cleared is now worth 700 before it's cleared.

It works a bit better for some challenges than others. The harvesting ones are grindy to begin with (easy, but grindy), but you can open 10 Treasure Chests now rather than 5 and get Tome Points for each or ride the dolmen circuit in Auridon or Alik'r four times rather than twice (or 12 Fighters Guild dailies if you want to double-dip). I'm guessing it's mostly there for the folks who have tended to clear out their challenges in a day or two. Got to admit that I'm not a major fan of camping Knight Commander Pantius for twice as long, though.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

Oh no! As the tome is nearing it's end they gave us more opportunities to earn tome points in case we need to catch up! How awful!

If you don't need the extra tome points, don't do them. If you've already bought everything from the tome that you want and you're at the maximum tome points that can carry over then there's no point to doing any more anyway. They're literally just throwing a bone to people who want a chance to earn more points before the tome is over. If you're not one of those people then this doesn't affect you in any way shape or form. Just ignore them. There's no downside to them giving more opportunities for people to earn tome points, and yet some people have to complain about it anyway.

Yeah unlocked all the battlepass pages. Well before today. Maybe two weeks back or three weeks. This change was only noticed today. May have gone live with update 50.

Yes, I don't have to do them. But recall the seals of endeavor 1.0? Before this? The daily stuff was 0% grindy and 0% fatigue inducing. The weekly stuff back then did get.. a modest bit grindy, but not too bad to do EU and NA PC ESO.

But this? Play too many games to invest this much time into this v2.x seals/tomes/whatever system.

If you've already got everything you wanted to use tome points on THEN THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR YOU TO CARE AT ALL ABOUT THIS!

Why would you go and grind for something you don't need and can't use? This is literally only for people who for one reason or another haven't earned all the tome points they need to get everything they want before this tome goes away. If that's not you THEN THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR YOU TO CARE AT ALL ABOUT THIS!

You're not supposed to grind for stuff you don't need and can't use! Why do you want to take something away from people who haven't yet earned all the tome points they need to get the rewards they want just because you for some inexplicable reason feel like the system is trying to force you to grind for stuff you don't need and can't use? If you've already got everything you want from this tome THEN WHY AREN'T YOU IGNORING THE WEEKLY CHALLENGES? They're utterly meaningless to you now!

You do know that you can only carry forward a maximum of 2K tome points, right? And that unless you're not going to be playing much during the next tome there isn't really any point in even bothering to carry forward any because it's trivially easy to earn enough to buy everything.

Being able to get a bunch of extra Points isn't quite the same as having repeatable things to spend those points on, heh. A lot of us who don't care for the (imo dinky) amount of Gold you get per unspent Point at the end of a Season want to be able to buy stuff repeatedly we WOULD want, like the Currencies or other Consumables like the Nirnhoned Box or the one with the Riding Lessons and Wayshrine thingy.

Also since the Challenges only double once you've fully unlocked all Pages in a Tome, it wouldn't matter if any previous upgraded ones someone might have have them or not, since their current Tome won't get them until all the Pages are unlocked.

It's the same amount of work but you can repeat them more. These were added as a catch-up mechanic for the tome.

Exactly. They are repeatable for gold once youve surpassed the 2k carryover at the end of the season and tasks are doubled for anyone who needs to catch up or just now bought the premium. I am happy with the system and I have the premium and even though I've finished the tomes, the tasks are fun and extra gold is never a bad thing. I will still continue to buy the premium in the future because I do support this and many of the new things they are attempting.

The extra tome trigger unlocks as soon as you reach the bonus pages.

Its designed to help players catch up and complete prior tomes, as well as ensure that you get everything you want from the season.

If you have everything you want from this tome or a prior one, then all tomes become is one of the worst methods to grind gold in the game.

22 days left in the season, and about 20,000 unused points.
No little daily tasks to give me a 'purpose' in the evening.

A little sad, a little empty.

I finally finished buying everything in the premium tome today. When the tome first came out, I was still in endeavour mode and finished all the weekly challenges within a week. But I stopped doing that, so quite a few of my challenges rolled over week to week, and I didn't open any of my tome caches.

I'm glad I can skip doing challenges for the next few weeks.

As for the premium tome, one of the draws for me was that they would stick around after the season. But because of autobuying stuff at the end of the season, I'm not sure that's really a benefit. I suppose if I were to take a long break from the game and didn't earn many tome points during the season, maybe. But that's not likely to happen (I'm either playing regularly or I've moved on permanently).

Also, I wasn't impressed with the premium items. Too much trash in there. I actually thought the premium items were at the bottom at first! Anyway, whether I buy the next season will completely depend on whether there's an item at the premium level that I really want that I think is worth the money. If not, I'll skip it. Without it, though, I'll earn the tome points I need to buy everything much faster, which might actually be good depending on what the challenges are next time.

As for the tome caches, I can't see myself ever needing them, which makes that ESO+ benefit kind of useless.
