Severe Audio Lag

I spoke too soon the other day when I said I wasn’t having the issue anymore because it’s back. It’s not as horrible as it was but it’s definitely there. There’s delayed sound but at least I’m not having dead silence then all the sounds going off at once. Still having issues with companions getting very loud suddenly and that’s something I didn’t mention in my original post. That may be an entirely different issue and not belong in the thread but I thought I’d mention it.

Last maintenance did not fix this issue, game is still pretty much unplayable for me.

The lag is real, many of our guildies including me have it, it's ridiculous, stampede then 2 seconds later you hear the audio. I guess the servers this game runs on are out of date or something.

    Maintenance tonight? Hope and pray.

    No such luck :(

Can we get a comment on this thread @ZOS_Kevin - is it being looked into?

Just for information. I abandoned all my Night Market quests and now my main is all back to normal again.

I've had desyncs and audio lag in dungeons and IA this week, despite not having touched NM in weeks.

I had not touched NM in a couple of weeks either, but had a bunch of NM quests not finished. When I cleared those quests out everything went back to normal for me. I hope this will work for someone else too.

Funny, I also have a ton of NM quests I forgot to do, I'll try abandoning them and see if it works.

It’s not just sound effects, it’s total gameplay lag. It’s in PvE & PvP.

I experienced it last night in the IA and in BGs and in BGs tonight as also.

Not as much the audio now but moreso skills failing to trigger, animations not playing on skills that were triggered, skills that fully animate but have no effect, skill efffects delayed by upwards of 1 second +

This level of lag was not present prior to U50. This isn’t a net issue, I’m hardwired on consistent hardware.

I've been having the problem for weeks PSEU. And of course they know, it must be one of those hard to fix peoblems, but it would still help if they at least acknowledged it.

I’m very happy it helped you! I was almost about to stop playing because of all the lag.

Now the question is why some active quests in the quest log can cause such severe lags.

My gut feeling is that it has more to do with the console / PC cross platform.

There’s always been a degree of lag in the game but this is next level.

I feels like the server can’t properly sync between the various platforms and it’s resulting in data being dropped or delayed.

I watched a random character that was standing next to me in the night market literally disappear from beside me and reappear at the door to the Parch. She’d actually sprinted there but the game lag was so bad it “warped” her across the area when it caught up. .. and there weren’t even many players in the area.

Imagine if all the regular Cyrodill campaigns were up? I think we see why ZoS decided to do yet another run of Vengeance alongside this update despite a huge chunk of the community not wanting anything to do with it.

I’d bet good money they knew it was going to turn the server into a potato so they did this to try and lighten the load while they work it out.

This is weird as the sound effects are client based and should be triggered with the spell or ability triggering.
Same if other makes sounds, here server tells that an npc or player does something who generate an animation and the sound who goes with it
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The sounds may reside on the client side but none of the skills or sounds or animations or effects can actually execute their function until they get a response back from the server that the input was resolved and processed through any buffer.

The game now has to try and synchronize any game environment between different hardware platforms that operate at different rates, and then try and return synchronized packets back to the client and I think that’s where it’s tripping over itself.

Having audio drops, having things respond delayed or not we’re seeing it all. It seems to be struggling to resolve people & activities in the space and time that they occur.

Even client side elements have some server side dependencies to operate properly.

I remember a point back in the day where if you filled your quest log to its limit, it would cause crazy lag stutters. The only fix was to abandon half of your quests. Could be something similar..

Me and my husband have this issue.
The actions add up their sounds, which, instead of coming out one at a time, come out all together making a terrible din.

Thanks! I was suffering with audio lag, skill lag, lag when mounting, etc. Deleting all the NM quests that were in my quest list fixed all of these!

Interesting fix. I just realized I had like a 5 hour play session with a friend who is new to the game, none of hs had NM quests and none of us complained about audio lag - which is definitely something we both would've noticed while playing at some point.

I'll definitely try to see if it will fix the issue on my main character as well.

Not sure where the EDIT button disappeared, and whose bright idea was to remove it from the forums, but I guess I have to do it the old-fashioned way.

I've abandoned all the Night Market quests from my main, and it really did fix the problem with the audio lag. Hopefully ZOS finds a way to fix this because no amount of FOMO and cosmetics is going to be enough to get me back into that place if these issues persist.

I'd rather have working audio in my game than a thousand different character skins that I'll probably never use.

I cleared all NM quests from my journal a week ago, yet I still have issues with audio lag and especially choppy audio, where sound effects and skill sounds would cut out mid-way. Or occasionally a sound effect would lag to a point where it plays after another skill or action has taken place. It's getting really annoying.

Audio lag has been a problem on PS5 at least since the Gold Raod chapter release. That's the first time I ever noticed it in the years playing from PS4 -> PS4 Pro -> PS5.

It's definitely most often in instanced group content like Dungeons and Trials. I notice it a lot less on new under 50 lvl characters. I notice it most often on classes like Arcanist with Beam but since Night Market it had been happening in every Dungeon for me on all my characters.

Again, something was changed or introduced in the Gold Road update. I never experienced Sound lag prior to that even when playing in high latency Cyrodiil.

It's been way worse (as much as 5 seconds of audio lag for abilities) since U50 on Xbox NA.

Still a huge problem that screws up gameplay.

Same for me, audio lag during combat appears to be gone for me since Night Market closed (PSNA).
